Standard 2 Objective 2

18 students 10 males/8 females Ages 8-9 yrs old Mental, Social, Physical, Social Notes: • 2 students being monitored for possible ADHD, process ongoing • 1 student’s parent deployed to Iraq 5. Reading levels: 6 students at grade level reading, strengthening their reading comprehension capabilities, as well as their ability to relate lesson to his/her personal life. 10 students with basic reading skills and 2 with below basic skills. 6. Learning Styles (Estimate % of Students) • Visual 35 % • Auditory (Aural) 25 % • Kinesthetic (Hands On) 40 %

State Objectives: •

Students will work cooperatively in groups of 4 throughout experiment exercises.



Students will demonstrate the relationship between force applied to an object and the resulting motion by conducting a balloon rocket experiment with at least three varying factors.



Students will illustrate their findings by creating a digital graph after all experiments have been completed and report their observations to the class?

Select Media, Materials, and Methods • Book: Tell Me How Fast It Goes (Whiz Kids) by Shirley Willis (Franklin Watts) • Balloon Rocket Observation Log • Computers • Computer lab technician Experiments 1, 2 & 3 • Balloons in a variety of sizes • Straw • String • Paper cup • A variety of small objects of varying weight • Tape • Stopwatch or some other type of timing device

Utilize Media, Materials, and Methods • The book: “Tell Me How Fast It Goes” (Whiz Kids) by Shirley Willis (Franklin Watts) will be read to the students as an introduction to the concept of force and motion.
