BEGINNER MODULE BALL HANDLING
Basketball is a team sport played by two teams of five players each who try to score by shooting a ball through the hoop ten feet above the ground. Aside from shooting, there are other skill that you need to learn to enjoy playing the game of basketball like dribbling, passing and defense. This module is not only intended for individuals who have just recently engage in the sport but also for those who have been playing the sport for awhile because it teaches the fundamental skills of the sport. This module can also be used by parents who want to introduce their kids to the sport and individuals who want to start coaching the sport. Each module will guide you to a step by step learning progression of each skill. And each drill is thoroughly discussed to help the individual improve his basketball IQ.
MODULE 1: Ballhandling Ballhandling drills are designed to familiarize the individual with the ball. These drills consist of moving the ball around the body, dropping and catching the ball, stationary dribbling and many more. In this module, you will learn different drills that would help improve your skill in handling the ball.
BALLHANDLING DRILLS: A. Ball Taps 1. Stand up straight and hold the ball with your right hand in front of your chest. 2. Move the ball from one hand to the other.
B. Ball Slaps 1. Stand up straight and hold the ball with your right hand in front of your chest. 2. Slap the ball alternately with your hands.
C. Around the Waist (Clockwise/Counter Clockwise) 1. Stand up straight and hold the ball with your right hand. 2. Move the ball around your waist from your right hand to your left hand. 3. For clockwise, move the ball around your waist from your left hand to your right hand.
D. Figure 8 1. Start in triple threat position. 2. Move the ball between your legs in a figure 8 motion from your right hand to your left hand. 3. Swing the ball back to the front and pass it through your legs from your left hand to your right.
Triple Threat
E. Figure 8 Speed Dribble 1. Start in triple threat position. 2. Dribble the ball between your legs in a figure 8 motion from your right hand to your left hand. 3. Dribble the ball back to the front and dribble it through your legs from your left hand to your right.
F. Figure 8 Two Bounces 1. Start in triple threat position. 2. Bounce the ball between your legs from your right hand to your left hand. 3. Bounce the ball back to the front and dribble through your legs from your left hand to your right. 4. Bounce the ball back to the front and start the drill over. 5. Do 10 figure 8’s in 30 sec.
G. Figure 8 Between the Legs 1. Start in triple threat position. 2. Bounce the ball between your legs from your right hand to your left hand. 3. Bounce the ball through your legs from your left hand to your right hand. 4. Do 10 figure 8 in 30 seconds.
H. Quick Drops 1. Start in triple threat position. 2. Place the ball between your legs with your right hand in front and your left hand at the back. 3. Drop the ball and move your right hand to the back and your left hand to the front as you catch the ball before it hits the ground. 4. Catch the ball 10 time in 30 seconds
Coaching Tip:
Start slow and put more emphasis on the form. Increase your speed as you get more comfortable with the drill.

Stationary Dribble 1. Start in triple threat position. 2. Bring the ball to your right side. 3. Bounce the ball beside your right foot. 4. Keep your arm bar to protect the ball. 5. Maintain the bounce of the ball waist high.

High-Low Dribble 1. Start in triple threat position. 2. Bring the ball to your right side. 3. Bounce the ball beside your right foot. 4. Keep your arm bar to protect the ball. 5. Bounce the ball waist high 10 times then bounce the ball up to your knees for another 10 times.
K. Swing the Purse 1. Start in triple threat position. 2. Bring the ball to your right side. 3. Bounce the ball beside your right foot. 4. Keep your arm bar to protect the ball. 5. Pull the ball towards the back. 6. Then push the ball forward. 7. Continue pushing and pulling the ball for a certain amount of time.
L. One-hand V Dribble 1. Start in triple threat position. 2. Bring the ball to your right side. 3. Bounce the ball beside your right foot. 4. Keep your arm bar to protect the ball. 5. Bounce the ball to your left side and back to your right using only your right hand.
M. Crossover Dribble Stationary 1. Start in triple threat position. 2. Bring the ball to your right side. 3. Bounce the ball beside your right foot. 4. Keep your arm bar to protect the ball. 5. Bounce the ball to your left hand and back to your right hand continuously.
