BACONS REBELLION TIMELINE MORGAN FOX SUMMER 1975- Frontiersmen attack the Susquehannock because of tension with a local tribe – Largely outnumbered WINTER 1975- Susquehannock attacked back killing 36 Virginians SPRING 1976- Bacon gathers his followers and attacks Native Americans • Bacon also called Rebel and 300 troops come to bring him to Jamestown SUMMER 1976- Bacon vs. Berkeley. Bacon’s followers rebel against Berkeley’s troops • Bacon captures Jamestown and Berkeley flees END OF 1976- Fighting dies down and 1,100 royal troops come from England JANUARY 1977- Troops arrive to find Bacon dead from swamp fever and many of his followers gone CAUSES -Anger towards Berkeley’s policy with Indians of no expanision. -Land Hunger. -Anger towards declining tobacco prices. -Rising taxes. -Lack of opportunity.

EFFECTS - New land available in Virginia- less tension. - Causes his followers to disperse elsewhere and create problems - Inspired many attacks in different colonies
