Assessment Plan And Learning Goals

Assessment Plan Learning Goal #1 ● Pre-Assessment- ​I used a ten question multiple choice pre-assessment that focused in on various segments of the Executive Branch. I designed a set of learning goals before giving out the pre-assessment as a guideline but made appropriate changes to the learning goals based on responses from the pre-assessment. This was given to the students before our unit began and allowed me ample time to analyze student responses while keeping the learning goals in mind. This pre-assessment was not graded and will be used at the end of the unit as a post-assessment and we will compare the two to allow students to see their growth. ● Foreign Policy Activity-​ The students were given a reading regarding Foreign Policy in America. This is coupled with information from a content presentation from an earlier point in the unit and allows students to gain more insight. Students also had to answer questions regarding this activity and I was able to look at the various answers and modify and help students in areas where there was need. This was done in class and was graded as an in class assignment. ● Presidential Role Activity-​ The students were given an assignment to look at a current event regarding the President and one of his various roles that were talked about during the content presentation. Again, the students had to answer questions regarding the current event and had a certain requirements to meet in order to use a certain resource for this assignment. This was done in class and was also assigned for homework. It was graded and feedback was provided and used in designing the quiz. ● Quiz- ​This summative assessment allows for the students to show what they have learned and demonstrate their strengths and weaknesses with the material. Students will be taking a test over this material once they have completed the Judicial Branch(Test will be over Legislative, Executive and Judicial) so students can also use this as an opportunity to see what they have to focus more on while studying for the test. The quiz contains mostly multiple choice with some short answers and feedback was provided to students. This will allow me to see that students understand the different roles and jobs of the different cabinet positions. I will be able to view this and give feedback before students take the quiz, which can allow me to modify and adjust accordingly. ● Cabinet Slideshow-​ This summative assessment allows for students to focus in on one cabinet level department and really explore what that cabinet department does. Students had a rubric to meet in order to achieve a certain grade. Those categories include roles and activities of the department and who is in charge of the department. Students had to make this a persuasive slideshow as the intent was for students to convince the President not to cut their department in a round of budget cuts. ● Quiz- ​This summative assessment allows for the students to show what they have learned and demonstrate their strengths and weaknesses with the material.
