Art 1st. Semester Clintondale High School Mr. Walters Textbook: None Supplies Required: Students will need to have a spiral sketchbook that will be collected and graded from time to time. 24 pack or larger, of crayons. Colored pencils or markers or both. Glue stick, ruler & scissors Grading: Grades are based on the students performance in the areas of classroom participation, completion of designated homework assignments, art projects, reports, quizzes, tests, examinations and special projects. Points will be awarded for each then divided out of the total possible. The following percentages are an approximation of how your grade will be broken down. Every day students will earn their daily points for classroom effort as long as they are working. Daily Work 40%. Individual Projects will be given and assessed with a grade sheet that the student must fill out. Projects are worth 30%. Students will be expected to work on their sketchbook in class as well as for homework from time to time. Sketchbook/Homework 20%. We will also do 1 research project per quarter. Research project 10%. At the end of each semester we have a Semester exam it is not part of the regular class work, but instead is added in at the end as a separate grade. Requirements / Expectations: Students are expected to contribute to exemplary conduct in the classroom. Students should come to class on time. They should be ready to start class promptly. They should read, and then perform their assigned homework before coming to class. Students are expected to always come to class prepared with all necessary supplies. Most importantly they should display a positive attitude towards their peers, their teachers, and their school. Mr. Walters Class Rules 1. Come to class with all materials. (crayons, pencils sketchbooks etc.) 2. Follow Directions the first time. 3. Have all assignments turned in on time. 4. Be in class and in your seat before the bell. 5. Do not eat, drink, or chew gum. 6. Phones must be turned off or on vibrate, and cannot be used in the classroom at all. 7. Lab safety is to be followed while in the lab. 8. Do not interrupt the learning process. Make up Policy: Their will be no make up for daily work. It is the student’s responsibility to make up their missing project work, homework or tests. They should check with their teacher immediately upon their return to class. Tests can be made up after school and should be scheduled with the teacher. Unexcused

late work will result in a grade point reduction and must be submitted within one day of tardiness or it will not be excepted at all. Course Objectives (General): Students should be able to demonstrate the following concepts and skills: Formal Elements of Design: Line, Shape, Color, Value, Texture, Space, Rhythm Color Theory: Mixing and identifying Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Colors Old Master Drawing Techniques: Drawing and Shading techniques of Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo. Contour line, hatching, cross-hatching, line grossening, and cross-contour line. Determining the Key of an artwork: High, Middle, Low, and Full keys. Monochromatic Color Scheme Painting in the style of Cubism (Picasso, Braque). Develop understanding of Still Life subject. Creating the illusion of visual texture in pen and ink drawings. Linoleum Block Printmaking. Edvard Munch Creating a mat for the print. Reviewed two techniques of hand building with clay: coiling and slab. Students are to create two pieces of pottery: one using the slab technique, the other with coiling. Relief sculpture showing attributes of Greek Architecture. Review of Column Orders. Scratchboard: Series of two additive drawings and two using the subtractive method in the form of factory and student-created scratchboard surfaces. One Point Perspective Drawing: Students were introduced to the basics of using perspective to create a sense of depth in a drawing. Two Point Perspective Drawing: A continuing exploration of linear perspective. Sculpture--either in relief or in-the-round--using the human form as a subject. Mixed media still life design: Students practice translating real objects perceived in order to create the illusion of three-dimensional space. Mixed media still life design: Students develop skills in perceiving real life objects and rendering using the available tools. Series of three self portraits in the style of Pop Artist Andy Warhol, with emphasis on positive and negative shapes, shadow shapes, and lighted areas. Create a ceramic tile using one of the following design types: symmetrical objective radial design, asymmetrical objective radial design, asymmetrical nonobjective radial design, asymmetrical nonobjective radial design, symmetrical nonobjective radial design.
