Apparition Is the form of death dependent on the person? Does it shape itself according to some law? Or does it play the probabilities Arising as whatever is the norm And far flung vice of our diseases. If personality effects the mold Of that dread force with dread and vacant eyes, The angry man would die of cancer's growth And soldier of the smiting of his arms, The slanderer by stricture of the throat And women beaters by the bestial rope. If opposites control Death's apparition, The peaceful man would die of slashing knife, The saint by pain's unholy tortures And those in biggest house, all would die By those who must suffer the pounding of the rain. I wonder how it will appear to me. With agonies before the peaceful sigh? I'm glad I do not know and will not try To fathom such a thing. And what of you? Do you not also wander in Death's zoo And see his creatures pacing for to feed And wonder which the keeper will let out And which sharp beast will take his stalking stance, Not seen by glance, as stealthy crouch Avoids the eye. Which one of these Will leap and put a silence to your shout? Carl Estrin
