How did Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel get involved in the fashion industry? ● Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel at the age of 20 years old became friends with Etienne Balsan, he said he’d help her start a military business, but soon after becoming friends with Etienne Balsan she left him to become friends with his richer friend Arthur “Boy” Capel. Coco ended up opening her first shop in 1913 in Paris, where she sold hats. She later started making dresses on a chilly day out of jersey. What was Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s inspiration? ● Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel was often inspired by simple, practical, and manly things.
