I am very happy to meet you on this day of teachers' day Met 200 teacher yesterday evening Great day for me to be at IITB on the eve of teachers' day What is the message on the teachers day? Teachers take an oath o As a teacher, I will organize and conduct my life in such a way that my life itself is a message for students. o I had such a teacher (1926 ‐ 1941) Siva Subramaniam Iyer. Science teacher. He taught every student how to fly (in imagination). Teacher for science. We always wished to read books the way he should read books. Life becomes a very great learning tool. Friends first of all I will like to greet…. o I asked Ashok Misra: “What is the core competence of IITB?” He said, “Research, Teaching, Research” Research is the beginning and the end. Good teaching comes out of good research and good teaching will lead to good research I am happy to be here in the beautiful environ of IITB Compliment on launch of golden jubilee celebration of IITB. All who were involved in creation of this great human resource. In this ambience I would like to share with you one of the imp thought for all the students about Inventors and the inventions, Discoverers and discoveries. o One side invention and other side inventors The Wright brothers ‐ Aeroplane George Eastman ‐ Film Thomas Edison ‐ Bulb Alexander Graham Bell ‐ Telephone o Dicoverers and discovery Einstein – E=mc2 Ramanujam – number theory Raman – Raman effect o The only way everything has been discovered and created is because one person saw it and created it. And he held this in his mind. All the forces of the world brought him to his aim. o Once you know the aim, you set a goal, set it so high and make it so powerful. New inventions and new discovery ‐ Research component of IITB has seen one of biggest leaps to become of the leading RD institutions of the country. I am confident that IITB has all the potential to ignite ever new minds who can help Indian in its unique world and new invention and discovery 50 years is an important milestone ‐ by this time you have generated >35k engineers Friends with a scientific and tech core competence, IITB will definitely make important contribution to country's progress Engineering mgmt and engineering research is very important. Uniquely situated – industry and so many research institutes.
