HANDLING Pick and Place Application – Components Products used – DLS & HB25C High duty and high speed are demanding requirements for any system especially when the machine has to work 24 hrs / day. The ease at which Hepco products DLS and Heavy Duty Compact Beam can be constructed to provide the necessary play free motion were key factors in the Customers selection.

The X axis travel over approx 7m is achieved by two DLS4 units in parallel linked with a drive shaft and is servo motor driven. The 2m cross Y motion is again achieved by the use of a DLS. However, running parallel is a “slave” unit to provide sufficient rigidity and accuracy to ensure the components can be located accurately. The Z axes 1m stroke uses a Heavy Duty Compact Beam rack driven with slides on all 4 edges, again this will provide accurate no play movement. The whole system is picking and placing pistons for pumps, and the system has to move up and down twice and also forward and backward 7m all in 7 secs max. This cycle is repeated 500 times for one setting. The loads being carried are of course relatively light with the Z axis specifically carrying 10kg. Ease of mounting, simple design and trouble free motion were considerations that ensured HepcoMotion products were specified for this application.
