Name- Ankit Gupta Born & Brought up I was born in Raniganj on 28th September, 1995. Raniganj is the SouthEastern neighbourhood in Asansol. As raniganj was not so developed at that time having limited resources, my father decided to shift to Kolkata for our better future. After staying for 3-4 months in raniganj, we shifted to Kolkata, Howrah. Since then, I have spent 23years of my life here in Kolkata, City of joy. What I have adapted by staying over here is knowledge about cultures. Kolkata is well known for its culture this is the reason it is also called the cultural city of West Bengal. Staying in Kolkata has made me go crazy with my diet. I have become a foodie over here. Kolkata is called city of joy because of its food and festivity. There is vast and different varieties of food items present in Kolkata. Ex- Rasgulla, misti doi, biryani, fish etc.

Family Background Before my birth, my family was a joint family of 14 members. My paternal uncle and aunt has 5 sons and 4 daughters. My grandmother came to Kolkata along with my parents after my birth while my grandfather died 3 years before my birth. When I was 3 years old, my grandmother died due to heart attack. The only thing I could remember is her love and affection towards me. I still wish I could have spent more years under her love and affection so that I could have more memories with her. Now there are only 3 people in my family including myself. My father name is Santosh Gupta, my mother name is Sweta Gupta. I have heard from my mother about my father’s struggle when

we were new to this place. My father has spent 22years of his life in becoming a good businessman and in providing us a better future. My father is inclined towards manufacturing dyed clothes and selling them. I have been to my father’s office and seen him work with full dedication and determination. From there I have learnt that earning money is not as easy as I used to think. It requires both dedication and passion to earn daily livelihood. I have seen how my father fulfills all his responsibility towards family as well as business. Previously I used to run from the basic responsibility given to me from my mother, like bringing groceries from market. After seeing my father, I have stopped running from the responsibilities given to me. My mother is a homemaker. Her interest lies in doing things perfectly and completely on time.

Educational Qualification I have done my schooling from ST. Helens School. I have scored 81% in my ICSE exams. And 80.83% in ISC exams. Uptill class 7 I used to be a lazy student with below average grades. I used to copy things from my friends. For me, my marks never bothered me. My teacher used to tell my mother that I always used to be in my own world. It was the first time when I failed in a particular subject, my mother arranged tutions for me so that I could improve. I still remember my tution teacher. His name is Ajay Das. He worked a lot towards improving my basics. My class strength was 65. And because of his guidance I was ranked 14th in my next terminal exams. My friends and teachers started seeing me as a different student altogether. There praise made me work harder. I ultimately turned myself from being a lazy student to hard working

student. In the middle of class 8, I became so over confident that started focusing less on my studies and started participating in much of the co-curricular activities. It was my first time when I took a step forward towards dancing. Before this, I have never danced in my life. My body was flexible and my dance teacher used to praise me for this. I was so much involved in my school annual concert that I neglected my studies completely. I was praised for my dance, but I performed poorly in my class 8 final terminal examination. This proved the saying “no work and only play makes Jack a dull boy.” In class 9, I stopped taking any active part in any of the events and focused on my studies. As I have always been an average student, so I have scored average in my board exams. I have completed my bachelors from The Bhawanipur Education Society College in 2017. I have scored 58.8% in my graduation under the field of commerce from Calcutta University. School life is totally different from college life. This I understood by meeting different types of people. During my graduation, I understood nobody stays for long period of time as my school friends were totally different from college friends. School friends used to help each other with project works but in college even friends used to see the project work as competition, so they were least interested in helping out others.

Failures My first failure was in class 7, when I failed in a particular subject. I understood failure more deeply when I failed towards cracking CPT twice. I lost my confidence completely because of this failure. I started spending more time at home rather than spending time with my

friends. My father started scorning me when I told him that I want to do MBA and appear for CAT in 2016. I still remember his comments ‘CPT nahi clear kar paya MBA kaha se karega’. I was so depressed that my mother took my side and calmed me down. She convinced my father for allowing me to take tuitions for CAT exams. Instead of focusing on my failure and realizing my mistakes, I moved on towards another failure. While preparing for CAT, I was attracted to a girl which resulted in my biggest failure. Instead of studying, I used to spend time with her by going to different places. I developed so strong feelings for her that I could not resist a day without talking to her. I forgot that I have CAT examinations after few weeks and how I struggled for this approval after my failure in CPT. Just 10 days before my CPT exam, we broke up. This affected me so much that I ruined my CAT exam. I got only one call from B-school named, IBS Hyderabad. I was so ashamed that I did not speak about my results to my parents, instead I told them a false percentile. I was so deeply affected that I ruined my interview at IBS Hyderabad.

Achievements My first achievement was in class 7 when I was ranked 14th. Those praises motivated me very much at that time. During my higher secondary exams I took part in a cooking competition organized by TAZZA Television, where I emerged as a winner in making bread pizza. As a child, I loved eating fast food but my mother was not interested in making it. So I learned how to make it by watching television shows. I have won many Drawing competitions during my childhood, but now, somewhere I lost my interest in it. Before class 7, I used to be shy and

was quite introvert. But after stepping in class 8, I started taking part in as much events as I can. This made me lose my shyness and gain confidence towards stage performance. I have not achieved much in my graduation, as far as I have achieved yet. Scoring 90percentile in XAT 2018 exam was quite an achievement for me. My father did not praise me directly. I came to know from one of my relatives that my father is very happy with my performance in exam and they quoted his saying. My father’s exact words were “iss bar ankit kamal kiya hai. Iss bar sabko dekh dekh k uske andar bhi kuch karne k junun chada h, iss bar kuch prove karke dekhayga vo.” Though I have not cracked any Bschool’s interview till now but these words from my father is much more than any of the achievements till now. This is what gave me my confidence back after my CPT failure and my CAT 2016 failure.

Co-curriculars Throughout my graduation, I was actively involved in taking part in Debates. Particularly those organized my MODEL UNITED NATIONS. Through this I have learnt how to look at a particular topic differently. I have learnt how to lead forward while making a point and look at discussions from all angles. Apart from this I was a part of an NGO also. I have organized many blood donation camps. Being a part of an NGO, I came across different facets of an organization like budgeting, marketing and operations.

Hobbies I love dancing. Dancing is something which I do to bring myself from a tensed situation. I love dancing on bollywood songs. Dancing pacifies my mind. Apart from dancing I also like playing cricket. I am the biggest and craziest fan of Sachin Tendulkar. Cricket is more of a war for me. I try every possible ways in winning a match. Apart from cricket, I love organizing and managing events. I have organized various blood donation camps, cricket tournaments and recreational functions.

Dedication I used to see people riding bikes, on the other hand I didn’t even knew how to ride a bicycle. I used to feel people who ride bikes are too cool. I asked my father for a bike but he denied me. He told me that I don’t know how to ride a bicycle than how can I demand for a bike. I took a promise from him that the day I showed him riding a cycle, he will buy a bike for me. I was firm towards having my own ride. I learnt basics skills of bicycle in two days and showed it to my father. And the outcome was I got my own ride. During my graduation I saw people who used to play guitar were very much popular in college. I decided to learn guitar on my own. As guitar cost much and I hardly had money left from my pocket money. I borrowed guitar from one of my friends. I started learning guitar tutorials from Youtube. I have posted various videos of mine in instagram, and comments from my friends, relatives and other people motivated me to work harder. I finally performed in teachers day event

organized in my college and got appreciations from my teachers and batch mates. It was all possible because of my dedication only. My interest towards cricket had made it possible for me to organize a cricket tournament in our locality. Where everybody seemed to be clueless regarding how to organize. They use to tell me that organizing such a event in my locality was not possible. But I was firm and tried every possible ways for organizing this tournament. I had a walk up and down the municipal corporation office for 6-7 days regularly for the approval. At first they did not approved but slowly and steadily my effort convinced them and on the 8th day they grant me the permission for this tournament. At last I can say that my dedication made it possible. Other interest I love to play guitar. I never knew how to play it I learnt it through Youtube. And slowly slowly I learned it well through my regular practice and diligence toward it. During my graduation, I was a notorious student. I used to make different vocals during lectures and made the class interesting. While my teacher never got irritated, in fact they suggested me to go for beat boxing or something like that. I started rapping along with beat boxing. I also like to play chess in my free time.

Bucket list What comes first in my list is sky diving as I want to overcome my fear of heights. Also my first desire is to take my parents for a foreign trip to Dubai because there is an underwater room named Atlantis. I want my parents to experience this. I also desire to spend a week at Las Vegas and enjoy it to my fullest. I would love to go on a dinner date with the actor, Shraddha Kapoor near sea shore. I would also like to join Balaji Tele Films as I have recently got the call for photo shoot which would be something different and innovative.
