Ancient Africa Did you ever know that was named the dark continent because it was an unknown landscape, and Europeans thought it was new land. In this essay we will be talking about Africa’s Ancient civilization mostly around Morocco and Zimbabwe. Africa is a very interesting continent, it has lots of history. From 1500 – 1000 b.c. will the information take place. Africa’s government and military was like everyone else’s but just a little bit less. The Phoenicians and Carthage fought in the Punic War. The Punic War was between Italy, Rome, the Phoenicians and Carthage. The Phoenicians and Carthage lost the war because Rome had an extensive amount of soldiers. To sell in Africa you had to follow a law. The law is un-specified but others know the rule for today. The greatest government in Africa was Zimbabwe because the had a great amount of power over everything. Some known warriors were Sundiata and Mansa Musa. Sundiata was a great warrior who lived from 1200-1255 b.c.. Sumangure was a villain because he was a rebel and wanted things his own way. Sumangure wanted to go to war with Sundiata in Ghana because he thought conquering Sundiata would make everyone want to listen to him. Mansa Musa was in the Moroccan bloody war. The reson they called this war bloody was because the Spanish and Moroccan were tearing each other apart and there was blood everywhere. The villain in this war was Songhai a immigrant that migrated to Spain. Luckily Mansa Musa conquered Songhai. Many people worship gods or go to church. In ancient Africa some people went to church. Some people didn’t. The citizen of Africa believed in many gods. The gods are not specified but

when people went to worship these gods they build a place where they had statues of their gods. They would usually do rituals and they could last for several hours. Some people just went to church and for God. ( Catholic ) Ancient African cultures were simple. Some villages had a story teller that memorizes stories about their history and the storyteller shared them with the tribe. The stories were usually 4 hours long. Some small villages sang and dance at night after a hard day in the fields farming. Ancient African daily life usually involved trading items in a process called Dumb Bartering. Two essential things they traded was gold and salt. They thought gold was essential because they could buy lots of thing with it. They thought salt was important because it would preserve their meats. Timbuktu was the greatest trading city, next to Ghana. It was the greatest trading city and buying city because of its great population. Some other interesting things about Africa are that iron was discovered in the village of the Nok. The Nok’s learned how to smelt the iron, or to form it into shapes. The Nok’s were the most advanced village because of the discovery of iron. The stone Age became the Iron Age when the Nok’s discovered iron and learn how to turn it into shapes. Also, the Sahara is one of the hottest desert on earth. As you may see Africa is home of many things, you could trade goods. You could be a storyteller for a tribe, or maybe just a regular farmer or soldier. Africa has many things to do and see there. Overall, Africa is just like any other continent.
