How big will it be?



It should fit into a cuboid with sides around the size of an A4 piece of paper.



Are there any products like this on the market already?



Yes. There are three main available kits, pre-made but self built.



What do you think of the existing designs?



They are good quality simple ideas.



Do they give you any ideas?



Yes, because their designs are close to mine, but are better.



What type of circuit is required, discrete, IC ect…?



To control the product, I will need to use a microprocessor (IC).



What shape will it be?



The product will be shaped like a human arm.



What are the functions of the product?



The product is an educational but fun demonstration of electronics and mechanics.



What special features will be built into the product?



The base will be built a tapered box.



Which market will it be aimed at?



This product is aimed at young teenagers and children, (secondary schools).



What colour scheme will be appropriate?



I think that a bright yellow will be appropriate because it will be attractive to children.



Where will I be able to collect research?



My main source of research is the internet.



What materials are available for me to use?



The most suitable material available is plastic sheet (4-5mm thick).



What specialist tools/machinery will I need to use?



I will need to use a CNC milling machine to cut out the pieces precisely.



Will this solution solve the original problem?



Yes, because it covers the areas of an interactive robot with feedback.



Will the design be safe?



The gripper contains a pressure switch to stop delicate items being crushed.



How will it be produced, by hand or by CAD and CAM?

How long will the product take to manufacture?



I think that once the parts are designed it will take only a few hours to complete.



How much will the components cost?



A total cost of components is £8.00.
