What If?... Project Think back to the moment in the book when Lina and Doon were in the boat on the river escaping the city. What else could have happened? Where else might they have ended up? What would they have found in this new place? How would they have communicated with the people still in the city? If is your job to imagine a different ending to City of Ember and create a 6 frame storyboard (with descriptions) to explain your ideas on the back of this paper. In addition, you will need to write at least one paragraph below picking up where the book left off. This first paragraph should roughly connect to the first frame of your storyboard. After completing your storyboard, you will be expected to display your storyboard on your clipboard for the rest of the class to view. During these presentations, you will have specific awards to give to the most creative storyboards, storyboards that show the most effort, and the story that you would be most interested in reading.

Scoring Your paragraph and storyboard will be graded based on the following factors:

Connection to the book (does your story make sense as a conclusion?)

/ 10

Amount of color (each frame should be colored completely)

/ 15

Creativity (how big is your imagination?)

/ 15

Effort (don’t be a slacker)

The Story So Far … It was as if the boat was being pulled forward by a powerful hand. The water grew rough again, and splashes of spray put out their candles. Lina and Doon huddled in the bottom of the boat with Poppy between them, their arms clasped around her. They clenched their teeth and squeezed their eyes shut, and soon there was nothing in their minds but the roll and plunge of the boat and nothing in their bodies by the effort not to be thrown out …

… and then what happened? It’s up to you.
