March 17, 2019 To Whom it May Concern: Adrian Hicks is a caring and dedicated teacher candidate. Adrian completed her student teaching in a 3rd grade classroom at Hickory Woods Elementary in Walled Lakes Consolidated Schools. She and her cooperating teacher worked very well together. I had the good fortune to serve as her student teaching supervisor. Adrian consistently proved her commitment to both her students and her pursuit of a teaching career. She put her heart and soul into every endeavor. She worked diligently to develop and revise effective lessons to meet the needs of her students. Adrian’s lessons were aligned to standards and had appropriate learning targets for all students. She provided students with opportunities to work in small groups, partnerships, and independently. Her direct instruction was engaging and always built upon and connected to previous lessons. In partnership with her cooperating teacher, Adrian analyzed student data and used it to drive instruction. She was very comfortable with incorporating the available technology into her instruction. She enjoyed the challenge of working to enhance lessons already in the curriculum. Adrian eagerly sought out feedback about her teaching and worked to incorporate any suggestions offered. Her reflections demonstrated her ability to think critically about content, lesson delivery, and classroom management. Throughout the semester, Adrian worked to develop and refine effective management skills. As a result of her efforts, she consistently managed the classroom in a firm but loving manner, and established a positive and warm learning environment, based on mutual respect and clearly established behavior expectations. During her internship, Adrian took advantage of opportunities to be an active member of the school community. In addition to collaborating with the 3rd grade team, she attended staff meetings on social emotional learning and an optional district wide PD on Lucy Calkins. Adrian worked in partnership with her cooperating teacher to provide feedback to parents through the completion of report cards, as well as being an active participant during recent parent teacher conferences. I am pleased to recommend Adrian for a teaching position. She will be an asset to the teaching profession. Sincerely, Beverly Allen Oakland University Student Teacher Supervisor [email protected] (248) 225-0343
