Elephants started their attacks on people again in different parts of Kandhamal district of Orissa. Few months back the Forest Department spent thousands of rupees to snatch away the elephants that create disturbances in the district. The Forest officers say, the group of elephants comes out from the Lakhari reserve forest due to lack of their habitation and entering in the living areas of people in different parts of Kandhamal district. Yesterday on 21st Nov a group of 7 elephants entered in different villages of Sugadabadi Gram Panchayat namely Kopuguta, Murudikupda under Raikia block and Dadaketa of Sikaketa Gram Panchayat under Daringbadi block. These two Gram Panchayats are neighboring Gram Panchayats. The group of elephants destroyed the paddy fields and vegetables of the local farmers. As it is a season of harvesting paddy, the farmers are afraid to harvest, because after harvesting they collect the paddy and stored near their homes. In that case the elephant group may enter in to their villages and will destroy their houses. Though the matter brought to the notice of concerned departments, no preventive steps taken.
