MEMBERSHIP DEPARTMENT

The Membership Department is open from 9:00AM to 5:30PM, Monday through Friday, to serve AFTRA members. This department handles all telephone and in-person inquires regarding membership status including applications for membership, dues, name and address changes, among other duties. Vince Albrigo is the department's Supervisor. The best time to call the Membership Department at 634-8200 is anytime during regular office hours except between noon and 2:00 PM. New members are accepted between 9:00AM and 4:00PM daily. TELEVISION DEPARTMENT

The Television Department is responsible for all AFTRA television programs, pay television shows, home video cassettes and infomercials. Television Field Representatives (referred to as TV Reps) visit the sets of AFTRA TV shows, answer member and producer questions, provide information for contract negotiations, and pursue and collect claims on behalf of AFTRA members. If you are hired to work on an AFTRA show and have questions, an AFTRA TV Rep should be called. You should also call if, after working on an AFTRA program, you have been paid incorrectly, not paid at all, or have other questions relating to your employment.

AGENCY, MEMBER AND MENTOR SERVICES, EEO DEPARTMENTS

Agency Department: The Agency Department is responsible for the administration of the Fran­ chise Agreement governing agents known as Rule 12-C. Rule 12-C establishes the rules by which agents represent AFTRA members and the duties and responsibilities of both performer and agent. The Agency Department reviews and files performer agency contracts, check au­ thorizations, termination letters, work authorization forms, and contact information, and enforces the standards established for the conduct of the agency business. The staff answers franchise, commission and representation questions, interprets the Regulations, and provides contact in­ formation for bona fide casting directors and producers who wish to hire AFTRA members.

The Agency Department franchises agents and sub-agents and maintains and updates records for both the AFTRA Agency listings and AFTRA website listings. The Agency Department han­ dles the coordination of disputes arising under Rule 12-C's Arbitration process. Member Services/EEO Department: The Member Services staff is responsible for developing programs that enhance career opportunities for the 25,000 members of the Los Angeles Local. This department provides oversight for all member programs and services including showcases, workshops, seminars, committee meetings and events, and other activities. This department maintains the AFTRA Casting and Information Hotlines.

BROADCAST DEPARTM ENT

The Broadcast Department is responsible for negotiating and administering AFTRA staff contracts and organizing those LA radio and television stations that do not have collective bargaining agreements with AFTRA. Staff contracts cover newspeople, radio DJs and announcers, and staff announcers. This department also administers the Network and Syndicated Radio Program contracts. Lawrence Mayberry is the Director of the Broadcast Department. Ed Barnes and Patricia Morgan are the Broadcast Representatives, and Dawn Leonard and Connie Ross are the department's assistants. Broadcast Reps not only negotiate station contracts, they visit AFTRA stations on a regular basis, process grievances, and are available to answer questions regarding the various staff contracts. COMMERCIALS, PROMOS. NON-BROADCAST DEPARTMENT

The Commercials Department administers contracts covering English and ,Spanish radio and television commercials, on-air promotional announcements and non-broadcast/industrial ses­ sions. Contract Administrators collect talent fees for original sessions and applicable reuse payments, pursue and collect penalties and claims, and distribute payments for all of the above-listed contracts. They also answer contract questions from members, producers and agents. Each Contract Administrator is assigned a group of advertising agencies or production companies. If there is a session problem with a specific advertising agency or production com­ pany, the call will be directed to the assigned Contract Administrator. Contract Administrators also track commercial cycles and notify the companies when additional payments are due. Talent payments are sent directly to AFTRA (with the exception of major payroll companies). LEGISLATIVE AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS (LPAF)

The Legislative and Public Affairs Department coordinates the Los Angeles Local's efforts to generate and/or influence local, state and federal legislative initiatives and other matters of public policy affecting AFTRA members in their working lives. Staff works with the Legislative and Public Affairs Committee in identifying legislative initiatives and issues of priority to AFTRA members. Current LPAF priorities include: Media Consolidation; Non-Compete Legislation; Runaway Production; Young Performers (the Coogan Bill); Health Care and Pension Reform; Sound Recording Issues. The LA LPAF also works to provide support to other unions during labor disputes.

SOUND RECORDINGS DEPARTMENT

The National Sound Recordings Department is responsible for administering the AFTRA National Code of Fair Practice for Sound Recordings, which is the agreement that governs the employment of recording artists on sound recordings produced in the United States. Recording artists are defined as singers (royalty and non-royalty artists) actors, narrators and announcers. Covered sound recordings include records, cassette tapes, compact discs and audio books. In addition, this department covers music videos. Stefanie Taub is the National Manager of Sound Recordings, West Coast. Sidney White is the National Representative for Sound Recordings. The Residuals Departments is responsible for monitoring, receiving and distributing all foreign and domestic television, pay TV and home cassette residuals. AFTRA CASTING ACCESS PROGRAM

The Casting Access Program provides paid-up AFTRA Los Angeles members who qualify the opportunity to be considered for speaking roles by participating in general readings with principal casting directors for the Daytime Dramas. Initially, readings will take place at the production facilities for these shows and will be based on sides provide by the casting directors. This program offers alternative career planning along with exploring career options,

retraining, writing resumes, learning interview techniques, etc. Services are available to
