Undesirable or unintended consequence of drug administration
Definition “Any noxious change which is
suspected to be due to a drug occurs at doses normally used in man requires treatment or decrease in dose or indicates caution in the future use of the same drug”
when ADR will occur ? 1. Immediately after administration 3. After prolonged administration 5. After stoppage of the drug
classifications Type A reactions – predictable Type B reactions – unpredictable
Severity of ADR Minor: no therapy, antidote, prolongation of hospitalization is required Moderate : change in therapy, specific treatment / prolongation of hospital stay Severe : life threatening / permanent damnage / icu care Lethal: directly of indirectly causes death
