Adulteration Metanil Yellow

Test Method Add few drops of Conc.HCL. to Sample.Instant apperance of violet colour,which appears on dilution with water,indicates pure turmeric.If colour persists Metanil Yellow is present.

Brick powder grit, sand,dirt,filth etc.

i) Pour the sample in a beaker containing a mixture of chloroform and carbon Tetrachloride.Brick powder and grit will seetle at the bottom. Saw dust and colour ii) Sprinkle on the surface of water, Sawdust floats.Added colour will make the water coloured.

3 Corriander Powder

Dung powder

Soak in water. Dung will float and can be easily detected by its foul smell.

Iron filling to add Weight

Pass magnet through the rawa.Iron fillings No iron fillings added. will cling to it.

5 Sugar

Chalk Powder

Dissolve in a glass of water.Chalk will settle down in the bottom.

6 Common salt

White powdered stone,chalk

Stir a spoonful of simple salt in a glass of Water.The presence of chalk will make the solution white.

Excessive sand & Grit

Shake a little quantity of sample with about 10 ml of carbon tertra chloride and allow to stand.Grit and sandy matter will

collect at the bottom.
