Organizing files and managing your hard drive are essential tools for working efficiently on your computer. This course will highlight techniques for creating directories, subdirectories, folders, and subfolders to keep your documents, photos, and audio/video files organized!

Photo-Sharing on the Web: Picasa
Students will learn how to upload, edit, organize, and email their photos. In addition, they’ll learn how to burn a CD/DVD, order prints, and create web albums for family and friends.
We’ll explore the many and varied features of this popular smart phone, including email, IM, web browsing, phone, calendar, camera, and GPS.

Digital Photography Course
In response to our patrons, we are offering a multipart digital photography course. Parts 1-2 are a two-part class; Parts 3-5 are a 3-part class; and Part 6 is a single-evening class.
Part 1: The Art of Seeing Wednesday, April 1 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Learn about basic compositional guides for taking interesting photographs. An assignment will be offered for those participating in Part 2. All levels welcome. DSLR recommended.
Part 2: The Art of Seeing: Critique
The class will feature a discussion of the assignment given out at the end of Part 1.
Part 3: Camera Controls I
Step-by-step lecture and demonstration on the basic controls common to many digital cameras. For beginner and advanced beginner photographers. DSLR recommended.
Part 4: Camera Controls II
Students will join the instructor for this hands-on lab. Using the New Darien Library as a subject, participants will learn to use the various controls on their cameras.
Part 5: Camera Controls III
A critique of the results of the hands-on lab from Part 4.
Part 6: Digital Asset Management
This lecture, demonstration, and discussion will introduce the student to the digital photography workflow: the steps required to take the digital image from capture to output, be it print, email, or web site. For beginner and advanced beginner photographers, but anyone making the transition to digital photography may participate.
Photoshop Elements: Basics
Learn how to use the tools and features of Photoshop Elements to modify and enhance different kinds of images. We’ll show you how to lighten, darken, resize, and crop your digital photos. A 4-Part course. Students are encouraged to attend all 4 classes.

Join us for this introduction to InDesign, Adobe’s desktop publishing software.

Due to the popularity of these classes, registration is based on a lottery system. Registration for the lottery will begin on Friday, February 20, at 9 a.m., and will conclude at 9 p.m. on Monday, March 2. Participants will be contacted by Monday, March 9, regarding their registration status. To submit your name to the lottery, fill in a registration form online on our website: http://www.darienlibrary.org/techedregistration/ A separate registration form with your name, address, phone number, and email address (if you have one) should be submitted for each class you wish to attend. Your registration status will be confirmed by email or by phone. Please indicate on the registration form how you wish to be contacted. Classes are held in the Darien Technology Foundation Center at the Darien Library and are designed for users of IBM-compatible computers. Class size is limited to 12 unless otherwise noted. All classes are “hands-on” with a prerequisite of basic computer experience and mouse control for all participants. For beginning computer users who are Darien residents, or who work full-time in Darien, or who are Friends of the Darien Library at the Contributor Level ($300), appointments for one-on-one computer training can be made by calling Judy Sgammato at 655-1234.
