GROUP DISCUSSION Act II ~ Discussion Questions DIRECTIONS: You must write in complete sentences and find a quote to support your answer. Be sure to use correct punctuation and to cite the page number 1. In Scene II, lines 35-52, what does Juliet try to convince herself of the truth of?

2. Write a convincing argument that Romeo’s opening speech in Scene II is a soliloquy, even though Juliet appears on stage.

3. Can pain feel good? In scene II, lines 206-208, why do you think Juliet calls parting, or leaving, “sweet sorrow”?

4. Write an argument showing the reasons why Friar Laurence is happy to assist Romeo in his new romance?

Writing Activity- Act II: Write a page responding to the following: Write a persuasive argument to decide who is more loyal: the Nurse to Juliet, or the Friar to Romeo. Think about who risks more in helping their friend. Also, consider whose goals each person serves. Do they serve their own goals, Romeo and Juliet’s goals, or someone else’s goals?
