Acrylic Printing Printing with Basic dyes, steaming, washing -Basic dyes are cationic dyes, which give brilliant, strong and fast prints on polyacrylonitrile fibres. Owing to their simple handling, liquid types are generally preferred for textile printing. problems in sticking the fabric down on the printing blanket, a reduction in the printing speed due to poor wetting, uneven prints, poor print definition , Inadequate fastness of the prints.

The purpose of the washing treatment is therefore to remove these spin finishes and thus eliminate them as a source of faults. After washing, the fabric should contain no more than 0.1% residual spin finish. Detergents needed for acrylic fabrices GBdetergent GB Conc GBdetergent GB Conc is a mixture of anionic and nonionic emulsifiers that has a synergistic action, i.e. the combined efficiency of its balanced nonionic and anionic constituents is match greater than the efficiency of the seprate components. water-hardening substances, metal salts, alkalis and acids.

GBdetergent GB Conc therefore has an optimum washing action. The wash bath for the pretreatment of print goods composed of polyacrylonitrile fibres is acidified with GBcid AS and, apart from GBdetergent GB Conc, it should also contain Trilon TA if a complexing agent is necessary. Alkaline wash baths are not recommended, because residual alkali on the material can be responsible for faulty prints. It is important that the bath temperature is higher than the melting point of the oils and fats present. The concentration of GBdetergent GB Conc used depends on the amounts of fat and oil that have to be emulsified. AS a "rule of thumb", a relationship of 1:5 applies, i.e. 0.2 g GBdetergent GB Conc is necessary to emulsify 1 g fat or oil.

Luprintan PFD Luprintan PFD is a fixing agent with the following range of action: -

improvement in the colour yield and brilliance in all batchwise and continuous steaming processes, instead of batchwise dye-fixation in the star steamer, it also allows continuous fixation in the festoon steamer without any reduction in the depth of shade or brilliance, increased processing reliability during steaming, shorter steaming times.

Glyezin A

Glyezin A is necessary to dissolve Basic powder dyes. With the Basic Liquid types, an addition of 20-30 g/kg Glyezin A to the print paste promotes the dye fixation and levelness of the prints.

Benzy1 alcohol

The addition of 10-20 g/kg benzy1 alcohol, as special dye solvent, reduces the risk of dye agglomeration and speck formation, Dye-dissolving problems and specks may occur when the thickening dye system is not well balanced. In flat screen-printing, it is necessary to check that the screen lacquer is resistant to benzy1 alcohol.

Drying

Some cationic dyes are temperature-sensitive and it is therefore important to ensure constant drying conditions. To ensure the reproducibility of the shades, either the drying time must be reduced if the recommended temperature is exceeded, or the temperature reduced if the recommended drying time is exceeded.

Steaming

steaming is carried out continuously with saturated steam at atmospheric pressure or batchwise with pressure steam.

In all continuous steaming processes, the fixing agent Luprintan PFD ensures optimum dye fixation, even under unfavourable steaming conditions. The use of this product thus increases the processing reliability and ensures good reproducibility of the prints. In principle, it is also possible to steam with superheated steam. For this fixation process, the print pastes must contain 50-100 g/kg urea. It should be noted, however, that the depth of shade and brilliance of prints fixed in high temperature stem are not always up to the standard obtained by fixation with saturated steam. In pressure-steam or HT-steam fixation (steam temperature higher than 102° C attention must be paid to the temperature-sensitivity of certain cationic dyes. Washing

The degree of fixation of cationic dyes depends on the particular type of polyacrylonitrile fibre. During the washing process, even the first rinsing bath can there fore become very heavily contaminated with loose dye. This is not important in cold rinsing baths, but there is the risk of loose dye staining the fabric at the higher temperature in the wash baths. For this reason, most of the washing time available should be used for rinsing the prints cold in order to remove as much unfixed dye as possible. The washing recipes and the sequence of the wash baths depend on the nature of the print design and the fabric quality.
