The currency of his majesty Sultan Qaboos bin said: On his accession to the throne on 23rd July, 1970, his Majesty Sultan Bin Qaboos embarked on this career of service to the people of the Sultanate of Oman. He swept aside the restriction of the past, and devoted the resources in the treasury to bring about the rapid social and economic transformations of the
king. The new national currency has been able to pay a constructive role in the development of Oman, from the country
that
had
scarcely
in
thousands
year
into
a
dynamic society which has succeeded in achieving sound economic
growth
while
preserving
the
best
of
its
deepest-rooted
national
and
cultural traditions.
One of his Majesty’s first acts was to unite nations by changing the name of the country from the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman to the Sultanate of Oman, the name which is used on his currency. Then on 22nd April, 1971(1391 h), the country became the member of both the international monitory Fund and the World Bank. His majesty’s first coins were dated 1931 h, and comprised two sizes of the gold 15 rials and good replicas of the one rial and half rial.
In 1972, the 15 Rial coin was issued in gold, and there were gold replicas of the one Rial Omani, half Rial Rial Omani and the 100, 50 and 25 Paisa coins.
