After the civil war its name was changed by José Antonio Primo de Rivera, the founder of “La Falange”. In 1982 the name was changed to the current denomination. Manuel Llaneza Street is the most important street in Mieres and it’s located in the middle of our village. It’s one of the longest streets. Many important buildings of Mieres are situated on this street, like Liceo Mierense School, Aniceto Sela School and the Dominicas School, one of the oldest schools in Mieres.

this person!!!!!
It’s located in the center of Mieres, more or less on Numa Gilou street. On the 8th of October 2009 we went to Jovellano´s park and we took photos of the central square and the stage. This place is important to Mieres because all of the people go there with their children to practise some activities like football, running, skating… and more things. Around the park there are a lot of bars and benches to sit down. It´s a very beautiful place for people to meet. By: Silvia García and Nazaret Vertedor.

This building was inaugurated on the 10th of June 2002 by Prince Philip. It was made possible by the trade unions thanks to the mining funds. For this first building, which is called The Science and Technology Building, they used fields of Barredo Well that wasn’t working since 1995. You can study Mining Engineering here besides Topography and Forest Studies. We think you can study Geology here but only for a short period of time because, we think it’s going to end soon. It is an important place for the developing of the culture in Mieres and its surroundings. Besides, the University is very important for Mieres because attracts students to this beautiful town which is suffering a great loss in population.

Requejo Square is one of the oldest places in Mieres. It’s located next to San Juan’s Church in front of Teodoro Cuesta Street. A long time ago, this square was a cattle market where you could buy all types of animals, especially pigs. It was a social place in those years. Today this place is known for its tradition in Asturian gastronomy because it’s full of “sidrerías” or 13
“chigres,” the Asturian name. In these pubs, they sell “sidra” or cider, and the typical dish “fabada” or beans. By: Mariela and Alicia
MC CHARLY & COMPANY
MC Charly & Company is a hamburger restaurant.
It’s
situated
on

Avenue. Mc Charly & Company is a family restaurant where you can eat very good pizzas, hamburgers and sandwiches and you can drink a refreshing beer. It’s a very good restaurant for everyone.
You can go
with your parents or with your friends. When there is a football match you can go there and watch it as if you were in the 14

Las Novedades Las Novedades is a wine bar that is located on a corner in Jeronimo Ibran Street, in Mieres. This wine bar opened months ago but it’s one of the most famous wine bars here. At weekends, from 7 o’ clock to midnight, lots of people gather there to have a drink, have dinner, meet friends, have fun... It’s divided in two parts: On the left of the entrance there are tables and chairs to have dinner or lunch and then it’s the bar. At the top of it you can see glasses hanging from the ceiling. There you can eat tapas and meat and fish too, but we don´t think that you can eat hamburgers, hotdogs or things like that. Outside the wine bar there are two big barrels that you can use as a table. In this street there are more wine bars and bars like: La solana, El loco de la calle,
