1. Bring a can of food for Micah 6 Food Pantry 2. Attend a Social Justice Committee or Catholic Longhorns for Life Meeting
3. Make your own Hope Bag* and keep it in your car to give to a homeless person 4. Spend a Saturday morning distributing food at Micah 6 Food Pantry 5. Place a donation in the monthly Black Bag collection 6. Write a letter to your Congress reps supporting the Jubilee Act H.R. 2634 7. Pray for all people on death row, especially Dale Scheanette, the next Texas inmate scheduled for execution on 11/27/07 8. Go to daily Mass once a week 9. Call someone you haven’t talked to in a while and tell them you love them 10. Practice a random act of kindness * Hope Bag is small bag filled with non-perishable food items, toiletries, a beverage, hard candy and massage of prayer that one gives to someone who might need help. Tired of homework? Try assigning it! Live in community with 11 other single young women and men for two years while teaching in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. You’ll also complete a master’s degree at the University of St. Thomas, become certified as a teacher and work on your personal spiritual growth. If you’ve considered the Peace Corps or Teach for America but wish to participate in a Catholic ministry, the GRACE Program might be for you! Social Justice Movie Screening Over 10% of people executed in the U.S. have a history of mental illness. Why does the killing continue? The UCC Social Justice Team & Catholic Longhorns for Life invite you to a screening of the documentary "Executing the Insane: The Case of Scott Panetti" with a discussion moderated by Texas Coalition Against the Death Penalty's Kristin Houle. It will take place Mon. Oct. 8, 7:30-9 pm in the UCC Library. Fair trade realizes human dignity, come find out how! The Social Justice Team invites you to two events presented by the winners of the Catholic Relief Services Fair Trade Contest. "Fair Trade and Ghana," a panel presentation, will take place on the UT campus in Burdine 136 on Tues. Oct. 9 at 5 pm. A screening of the documentary "Black Gold" will be held on Thurs. Oct. 18 at 5 pm in Mezes B0.306. Free Fair Trade coffee will be served at both events! Reflection Question • Do a good deed for someone this week without them knowing you were behind the action.

Thank you so much for your generosity! The Social Justice Team made over $330 in their fair trade coffee, organic baked goods, and t-shirt sales last weekend. The money will help buy supplies for Hope Bags for the homeless and help fund educational events. If you would like to purchase a t-shirt, the team still has a few left over! Email [email protected] for info. Next Step Retreat. Have you been asking yourself these questions: Should I stay in my major? What's my next life step? What happens when I graduate? How do I discern God's voice in the decisions I make? If you’re asking yourself these questions, the "Next Step Retreat" may be for you. Praise be to the Lord of the Universe who has created us and made us into tribes and nations that we may know each other, not that we may despise each other. If the enemy incline towards peace, do thou also incline towards peace, and trust God, for the Lord is the one that heareth and knoweth all things. Compass Bible Study! Meeting on Thursday nights from 7-8 pm in the Mother Teresa Room, Compass is a fun and laidback way to read scripture and get a little more out of Mass. Every week we spend an hour discussing the next Sunday’s readings and sharing our faith. We are student run, student led, and totally low time commitment, so drop by whenever you can. Come hang out with us this Thursday!
