Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ِ‫بِسْمِ الِ الرّحْمنِ الرّحِيم‬ In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫عبَسَ َوتَوَلّى‬ َ [80:1] He frowned and turned (his) back,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫أَن جَاء ُه الَْعْمَى‬ [80:2] Because there came to him the blind man.

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَ َعلّهُ يَزّكّى‬ [80:3] And what would make you know that he would purify himself,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫أَوْ يَذّكّرُ َفتَن َفعَهُ ال ّذكْرَى‬ [80:4] Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him?

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫أَمّا مَنِ اسْ َتغْنَى‬ [80:5] As for him who considers himself free from need (of you),

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫فَأَنتَ لَ ُه َتصَدّى‬ [80:6] To him do you address yourself.

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫ل يَ ّزكّى‬ ّ َ‫وَمَا عََليْكَ أ‬ [80:7] And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫وََأمّا مَن جَاءكَ يَسْعَى‬ [80:8] And as to him who comes to you striving hard,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫وَ ُهوَ يَخْشَى‬ [80:9] And he fears,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫فَأَنتَ عَنْ ُه تََلهّى‬ [80:10] From him will you divert yourself.

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ٌ‫كَلّ ِإنّهَا تَذْكِ َرة‬ [80:11] Nay! surely it is an admonishment.

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ُ‫فَمَن شَاء ذَكَرَه‬ [80:12] So let him who pleases mind it.

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ٍ‫فِي صُحُفٍ مّكَ ّرمَة‬ [80:13] In honored books,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ٍ‫طهّ َرة‬ َ ّ‫مّ ْرفُوعَ ٍة م‬ [80:14] Exalted, purified,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ٍ‫بَِأيْدِي سَفَرَة‬ [80:15] In the hands of scribes

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ٍ‫كِرَامٍ بَرَرَة‬ [80:16] Noble, virtuous.

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ُ‫ن مَا أَكْفَرَه‬ ُ ‫قُتِلَ الِْنسَا‬ [80:17] Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he!

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ُ‫شيْءٍ خَلَقَه‬ َ ّ‫مِنْ َأي‬ [80:18] Of what thing did He create him?

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ُ‫مِن نّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَ ُه فَقَدّ َره‬ [80:19] Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ُ‫ل يَسّ َره‬ َ ‫سبِي‬ ّ ‫ثُمّ ال‬ [80:20] Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him)

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ُ‫ثُمّ أَمَاتَ ُه فَأَ ْقبَ َره‬ [80:21] Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ُ‫ثُ ّم إِذَا شَاء أَنشَرَه‬ [80:22] Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again.

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ُ‫ض مَا أَمَرَه‬ ِ ‫ل لَمّا يَ ْق‬ ّ َ‫ك‬ [80:23] Nay; but he has not done what He bade him.

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ِ‫ن إِلَى طَعَامِه‬ ُ ‫َفلْيَنظُرِ الِْنسَا‬ [80:24] Then let man look to his food,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫صبّا‬ َ ‫صبَبْنَا الْمَاء‬ َ ‫أَنّا‬ [80:25] That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫ثُمّ شَقَقْنَا الَْرْضَ شَقّا‬ [80:26] Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫فَأَنبَ ْتنَا فِيهَا حَبّا‬ [80:27] Then We cause to grow therein the grain,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫وَعِ َنبًا وَقَضْبًا‬ [80:28] And grapes and clover,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ً‫وَزَ ْيتُونًا َونَخْل‬ [80:29] And the olive and the palm,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫غلْبًا‬ ُ َ‫وَحَدَائِق‬ [80:30] And thick gardens,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

‫وَفَا ِكهَةً وََأبّا‬ [80:31] And fruits and herbage

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ْ‫مّتَاعًا لّكُ ْم وَلَِ ْنعَامِكُم‬ [80:32] A provision for you and for your cattle.

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ُ‫ت الصّاخّة‬ ِ ‫فَإِذَا جَاء‬ [80:33] But when the deafening cry comes,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ِ‫يَوْ َم يَفِرّ ا ْلمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيه‬ [80:34] The day on which a man shall fly from his brother,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ِ‫وَُأمّهِ وََأبِيه‬ [80:35] And his mother and his father,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ِ‫وَصَاحِ َبتِهِ َوبَنِيه‬ [80:36] And his spouse and his son--

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ِ‫ِلكُلّ امْ ِرئٍ ّمنْهُمْ َيوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُ ْغنِيه‬ [80:37] Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him.

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ٌ‫وُجُوهٌ َيوْ َمئِذٍ مّسْفِ َرة‬ [80:38] (Many) faces on that day shall be bright,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ٌ‫ستَبْشِ َرة‬ ْ ّ‫ضَاحِكَ ٌة م‬ [80:39] Laughing, joyous.

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ٌ‫علَيْهَا غَبَ َرة‬ َ ٍ‫وَوُجُوهٌ يَ ْومَئِذ‬ [80:40] And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust,

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ٌ‫تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَة‬ [80:41] Darkness shall cover them.

Surah ‘Abasa (He Frowned)

ُ‫ُأوْلَئِكَ هُ ُم ا ْلكَفَ َرةُ الْفَجَ َرة‬ [80:42] These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked.
