Weekly News The information in this bulletin is a snapshot of weekly activities in our church and community. It showcases new events that may not be present in our monthly newsletter. You may also visit our website: www.esumc.net for the latest updates. If you want your activity to be included, please make your submissions to the church office before 10 a.m. on Tuesdays. Submissions can be faxed to 421-0778, emailed to [email protected] or brought to the church office.

Welcome Visitors! If this is your first time worshiping with us, we welcome you. As a church we are committed to Love Jesus Christ and Share His Love. We offer three services: 8:30 and 11 a.m. are traditional, and 9:45 a.m. is contemporary. ~ Our Welcome Center is located in Oberholtzer Hall, the room next to the Sanctuary. Brochures on all our ministries are available there. ~ Our Holy Grounds Café is a place for light refreshments and coffee from 8:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. each Sunday in our Fellowship Hall. The café provides worshipers with an informal opportunity for fellowship. ~ Our Infant and Toddler Nurseries are available every Sunday from 8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. They are located on the lower level of the church and are staffed with our full-time, professional attendants and parent volunteers. ~ Children’s Church for ages four through third grade is offered at the 11 a.m. service and is guided by a parent volunteer. Children will be dismissed after the Children’s Message. Please pick up your children in the lower level of the church following worship.

Ministry Opportunities for Congregational Care and Service to the Church Register Today for the 24-Karat Faith Workshop! Stephen Ministry is hosting the workshop: "24-Karat Faith: Tragedy, Depression & Recovery in the Life of the Believer" Saturday, September 12 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Dr. Gordon Grose, a retired pastor and Christian counselor, will draw on Biblical knowledge, mental health concepts, and personal experience to help participants work through the negative emotions that often accompany the trials of life. All of us know of friends and relatives who are going through difficult times. Will you reach out and invite them to attend this workshop with you? It may bring God's healing into their lives! Cost for the day is only $5, which includes materials, morning snack, and a light lunch. Register today at the Stephen Ministry table in Fellowship Hall. Registration is requested by September 1. Ann needs a team of people willing to share the love of Christ to complete various tasks. For complete details, please call Ann at 629-5570. Magnify Opportunities to Support and Enhance Worship Welcome to New and Returning Choir Members! Musical experience is helpful but not a requirement to start. Please talk with Norm Fox for further details. Bell Choirs resume Tuesday, September 8, in Bell Room. - Chimes, grade 3 and up, rehearse from 5-5:30 p.m. and play during the 11 a.m. service on the 2nd Sunday of the month. - Youth Ringers rehearse from 5:30-6:15 p.m. and play during the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services on the 2nd Sunday of the month. - Adult Bell Choir rehearses from 6:30-7:45 p.m. and play during the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services on the 4th Sunday of the month. This choir is looking for an adult man or older teen boy to play the largest and heaviest bass bells. - Chancel Choir (adult and teens) resumes Thursday, September 10. Weekly rehearsals are from 7:30-9 p.m., in Choir Room. They sing during the 8:30 a.m. service on the 1st Sunday of the month and during the 11 a.m. service on the 2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays of the month. All voice ranges are welcome. Last Opportunity to Support Organ Series! Gifts of $10 or more to complete the final needs of the season may be marked "Organ Series" and placed in the offerings or given to the office before September 15. Please include a sponsor form from the Music Bulletin Board in Oberholtzer Hall. We will list names of donors as "Friends" in the printed programs. The Final Organs Series event is Sunday, September 27 at 3 p.m., by concert organist Mark Miller. Mark has long been active in United Methodist churches and conferences. He is on the staff of Drew Theological Seminary, is an editor for the UM publisher Abingdon Press, and is Minister of Music for Covenant UM Church in Plainfield, NJ. In addition to conferences throughout the USA in all five jurisdictions of the UM Church, he has concertized in Austria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Puerto Rico, South Africa and Bermuda. The program will include a wide variety of styles and is free.

Opportunities That Enhance the Fellowship of the Body of Christ

We Welcome Today Bill Koch, Executive Director from Pocono/Slate Belt Youth For Christ. Youth for Christ is one of our Faith Promise partners. Pocono/Slate Belt Youth for Christ has been reaching out and helping teens in our area for more than 57 years. Holding true to the calling of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ to Love Him with all of our hearts, and to love one another as we love ourselves. Our Next Soup Kitchen is Monday, September 7. In order to manage our kitchens, only volunteers who have signed up are expected at a kitchen. Youth must call Laurie Favini at 476 – 2937 to volunteer. If you have questions or would like to volunteer for a kitchen, please contact Janice Peters at 422- 6828 or [email protected] Donations are greatly needed: non-perishable foods, toiletries (shampoo, deodorant, soap, toothpaste), and season-appropriate, clean, wearable clothing. Items may can be placed in marked bins in Oberholtzer Hall.

Leisure Activities Adult Co-ed Recreational Basketball meets every Monday at 8 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. For more information call John at 426-7574. Adult Basketball for men meets every Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. For more information call Eric at 242-6047. Open Golf for men, women, and youth, meets every Tuesday at Terra Greens Golf Course on Rt. 447 in E. Stroudsburg. Come when you can. Cost per golfer is $16. For information please call Mark at 223-0155.

Older Kids, 55+ Group will meet Tuesday, September 15 for an outing to Camp Ladore in Waymart, PA. The camp requires advance reservations. If you plan on attending, please call Erma at 421-1422 by Sept. 7. This Salvation Army owned camp offers a multitude of services, activities and amenities, including bike riding, swimming in a heated pool, walking trails, etc. Cost is $10 for the day including a meal and church van transportation. (an offering will be taken to cover gas costs.) We will leave the church at 9 a.m. and return approx. 5 p.m Heart of a Marriage - If you would like to be part of a team to plan this couples conference Saturday, November 7, please email Kelli at [email protected]. Help is needed in a variety of ways. Merry Marthas and Misters: A Cooking Fellowship - Friday, September 11 - Aprons and Appetizers at 6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Bring your favorite appetizer to share and wear your favorite apron. Mark your calendars and join this group of men and women as they share recipes, learn new techniques and make new friends. Each person is asked to bring $2. 3rd Annual Playing for Poppy Golf Tournament, Tuesday, September 15 at Great Bear Golf and Country Club. 12 p.m. Registration 1 p.m. Shot-gun start. Kelli Mercurio has organized this event in which all proceeds are donated to the Greater PA Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association in memory of John’s dad Nicholas Mercurio. Women Of Faith Participants - Six seats are available on the church van for anyone wanting transportation to this event. The van will leave the church Friday morning, September 18. United Methodist Women will meet Sunday’s August 30, September 6, 13 and Saturday, September 19 (note date change) at 9 am in Bridal Lounge. Children's Ministry - Birth to 5th Grade

Basic Questions Class - Who is Jesus? Why did he die? Who is the Holy Spirit? These and other basics of the Christian faith will be discussed using videotapes in a small-group format for four Sundays starting September 13, from 11 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. To register contact Jill and Tim Malefyt at 992-0665 or email [email protected].

Sunday School Teachers Organization Meeting will be held Tuesday, September 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Class rooms. Bring your calendars! Child-care will be available in the nursery. Sunday School News! Starting Sunday, September 6 we will begin our regular Sunday School classes from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. for children age 3 (by Sept. 1st) through 6th grade. We will have an "Open House" format for the children to meet and greet their teachers and see their classroom. The New “Tween Class” for fifth-and sixth graders will meet in Contemporary Worship at 9:45 a.m. for the first music set prior to going to class. Children's Choir will begin weekly rehearsals Sunday, September 13 at 9 a.m. in the choir room. Children's choir is open to children in Kindergarten-5th grade.

Youth Ministry - 6th - 12th Grades Sunday School for all Jr. and Sr. high students is at 11 a.m. today in the Youth Room. Sunday Night Program - Tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Youth Room.

Growing Deeper Disciples Summer Program offered today at 9:45 and 11 a.m. in the Choir Room on the Lower Level of the Church. Today : Unleashing the Power of Rubber Bands - Nancy Ortberg Leaders, team members or anyone who serves in the community! Based on the book by the same name, this class offers a unique look into vision casting, managing tensions, nurturing healthy conflict, and motivating people, while fostering creativity, passion, and trust. Ewomen Conference 09 Saturday, September 26 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary This event will be filled with worship and inspiring messages from key Christian leaders. Women will gain the support needed to become all that God has gifted them for. Speakers : Candace Cameron-Bure, Karen Kingsbury, Anita Renfroe, Stormie Omartian, and Nancy De Moss.
