Animal Robot By Hyun Ju

what is it? What does it do..?  The animal robot, jointly developed by automation experts and physiologists, is a real mouse with a brain implanted with mini electrodes that work with computer signals. Computer signals exercise controls over the mouse' nerve cell clusters, which in turn direct its movement. Researchers also developed a multi-channel remote controller to send separate signals to corresponding nerve cell clusters.  The success of the experiment not only means man's control of animals' movement via electric signals, but also predicts that artificial signals would eventually act the same as the electric signals generated from the brain and body. Through standardization and commercial applications, the system can be used to meet diverse needs of humans and animals, and will bring up huge theoretical and practical values for many areas, including neurosciences, pharmaceuticals, and recuperation.

Where is it..?  Little larger than a thumbnail, the cubic insect-like robots or ‘insbots’ are technological marvels. Developed under the European Commission’s Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) initiative of the IST programme as the project Leurre, the insbots are fitted with two motors, wheels, a rechargeable battery, several computer processors, a light-sensing camera and an array of infrared proximity sensors.

Who made it..? Robot animal sculptures made from found electronics POSTED BY CORY DOCTOROW, NOVEMBER 15, 2006

Ann P Smith is an assemblage sculptor who makes extraordinary robot animals out of found electronics components and twisted wires.

When did it start working..?

 On December 31, 2005, a white mouse was acting turning right, left, marching forward, and making circles on the scene under the computer commands, with an accuracy of 100%, at a robot research center of Shandong University of Science and Technology. Recently the animal robot passed an experts' validation check.  The animal robot, jointly developed by automation experts and physiologists, is a real mouse with a brain implanted with mini electrodes that work with computer signals. Computer signals exercise controls over the mouse' nerve cell clusters, which in turn direct its movement. Researchers also developed a multichannel remote controller to send separate signals to corresponding nerve cell clusters.

Why was it made..? Develop a human animal-robot integrated system to detect antipersonal landmines. The robot could sense the direction of movement.

How does it work..?  A pet dog sits on command, but nobody expects an insect to follow human instructions. So it may come as a surprise to learn that researchers recently succeeded in controlling cockroaches with tiny mobile robots. The results hint at a future where we can interact and communicate with many different kinds of animal.

How much is it..?  when you’re ready to buy one of her pieces for your very own, be sure to check out her Etsy shop. Prices range from as little as $22 for simple insects, all the way up to $2500+ for her most intricate creations.

The end
