1) EXT. JUNGLE. DAY. Bernard is walking through the jungle. He keeps looking around him, unsure of where he is going. He appears to be very cold and he is shivering. His breath is very apparent now. It is obvious that the island's temperature has shifted greatly and is getting worse. He starts to talk to himself: Bernard: Damn it, Bernard, why didn't you just keep on going with Juliet?... Nooo, you felt too guilty for leaving Rose and you had to head back on your own... Bernard looks up and then sees something. He walks closer and he sees some sort of camp set up, but it looks like it has been abandoned for quite some time. He walks over to it and he sees a cross sticking out of the ground next to this dug out shelter. The cross reads "Robert Chemla Lamèch." It is Danielle's old camp. Bernard looks at the cross and has a look of surprise on his face. He begins to walk closer as the flash sound comes up. 2) --FLASH-- EXT. HIGH RISE. PARIS. NIGHT. The scene starts with a long shot of the Eiffel Tower then pans around to the Orgues de Flandre residential building in Paris. There is a team of men on the roof wearing all black and have helmets with dark tinted visors on. We can't see their faces. One of the men puts up his fingers: one, two, three... the men then jump off the roof and repel down the side of the building crashing into the windows about 10 stories from the top. The camera shows the shot from the inside as the two men fly through the glass into an apartment where there is a young woman sitting on her sofa drinking some wine and reading a magazine. She has long black hair with very long legs and a low cut red V neck shirt and red high heels on. One of the men rapidly unhooks his line and runs over to the girl jumping on her and flipping the
sofa backwards. He sits perched on top of her while the other man runs down the hall of the apartment. French Woman: (Screams a lot) Il n'est pas ici! Il a quitté ce matin! Subtitled: He isn't here! He left this morning! Man 1: Where did he go?! French Woman: I don't know! The man puts his arm on the girls throat and she starts to choke. He screams: Man 1: Where did he go?! The woman is struggling for air and pulling at the man's arm. The other man who flew through the window has his gun drawn and runs back into the living room. Man 1: He here?! Man 2: Negative. Man 1: Take care of her! Man 2 rushes over to the woman where he takes a black bag out of his vest and puts it over her head. He lifts her to her feet then knocks her out with the butt of his gun. Man 1 goes over to the desk in the corner of the room where he looks at a note that reads: "I am sorry, but this is the end of the line. You will always be my 'Premiere,' - T. Snodgrass." The top of the letterhead reads: "Madame M. Curie-Lamèch." Man 1 throws down the note and walks back over to Man 2 who laid the woman on the floor. Man 2: She's out. Man 1 then lifts up his visor where we can only see his eyes and his nose, but it is obvious who he is. It is a younger Bernard! Bernard: Damn it, we lost him... he's gone!
The music builds and the camera focuses on Bernard's face until:

3) --FLASH-- INT. CIA HEADQUARTERS. LANGLEY VIRGINIA. Bernard, 28, with more hair which is brown and looks to be in better shape, stands in his Army uniform in front of the desk of an official. The official is sitting at his desk as he addresses Bernard. Official: You are sure of this, then, Sergent? Bernard: Yes, sir. Official: You know the procedure involved then, do you? Bernard: Yes, sir. Official: We will have the documents drawn up then. As of today, April, 15th 1976, you are relieved of duty from the CIA and the United States Army due to injuries sustained on duty. Bernard: Yes, sir. Thank you, sir. Official: Bernard,... at ease. Bernard relaxes and the official gets up and walks around his desk. Official: You have been a valuable asset to us here at the CIA, Bernard. We'll be sad to see you go. Bernard: Thank you sir, it's just the time I move on... to a normal life.
Official: Yes, you always seemed like a man who needed the ordinary. Bernard looks rather offended by this remark. Bernard: Excuse me, sir? Official: Bernard, we both know that when you came into this program you weren't operative material. You were always too soft, but your intelligence has yet to be matched. Let's face it, you were never the Rambo type. Bernard: Who? The official picks up a book and hands it to Bernard. It is "First Blood" by David Morrell. Official: It's an excellent read, just came out last month... Bernard looks at the cover then sits the book down. Bernard: With all due respect sir, in my 8 years working with this organization I have only ever failed one mission. Official: True, but Bernard, we recruited you for your intelligence, not your field work... hell, you were only a Private First Class Specialist when we found you. Bernard: General Talbot, The CIA recruited me to lead communications, but when the time came for action I never hesitated to jump in full heartily. General Talbot: Ah, yes, the Paris mission. What we were thinking sending you in there still puzzles me. Bernard apparently getting angry due to the lack of confidence in him from General Talbot. Bernard: The information was faulty, sir. It was out of my control.
General Talbot: Bernard, that was years ago. No need to rehash old business... The General walks over to his cabinet and unlocks it. He pulls out a bottle of MacCutcheon whiskey and two glasses. He pours. General Talbot: You know, I don't drink on the job unless I'm saying goodbye to an old friend. Or celebrating. He hands Bernard a glass and sits down. He motions for Bernard to sit. General Talbot: This, this is both. The time you put in for your country won't be forgotten... They raise their glasses and drink. General Talbot: .... but you will be. So, tell me, what are you going to do with your new life... your life as a civilian? Bernard: Well.....I'm going into dentistry. General Talbot: Ah, so the boys in the office tell me... Say, why dentistry? Bernard: Well, the only danger I'll face is a root canal. They chuckle at the thought. General Talbot: A dentist suits you, Bernard. No one would ever suspect a dentist as a former CIA operative. Bernard smiles and General Talbot gets very serious. General Talbot: You do realize that from this moment on, you are a civilian. You never worked for the US Government and you were never in the military. Bernard:
It is understood, sir. General Talbot: I suspect that the bonus Uncle Sam's offering you will more than needed to allow you to open your own practice. Bernard shakes his head and smiles. Bernard: 4.8 million dollars should be more than enough. General Talbot: I would say so, Sergeant Landsworth. Bernard: It's Nadler now.... There never was a Bernard Landsworth. in:
The music builds for a moment as the camera shows Bernard's face. The general chimes General Talbot: I assume you have informed your wife of this, correct? Bernard looks down and the flash sound appears. (3:40)
4) INT. DANIELLE'S OLD DUGOUT. DAY. Bernard is now inside of Danielle's dugout where he sees an old chest. He opens the chest and inside is a bright red parka. He pulls it out and puts it on. Bernard: Oh, thank God... Bernard continues to look through the chest. He pulls out some nets and some books and paper. He quickly throws them to the side as he digs deeper into the chest. Bernard sees something that peaks his interest. He picks it up and the camera shows it. It is a book which read, "Cartes du mal île par Montand," on the cover. Bernard: Maps of the evil island by Montande? Bernard opens the book and there is a red X where he is and rough sketches to various places. Only one place, however, has the Dharma Octagon on it.
Bernard look up from the book then closes it and puts it in his pack. He gets up and walks out of the dugout. (1:20) 5) INT. STAFF STATION. DAY. Juliet and Sawyer are moving Jin to a cot on the side of the room. He is bandaged up and is sleeping. Charlotte and Harper are moving Annie to the table now. Annie seems to be walking a little on her own, but is still silent and disoriented. Harper: So, this is your mother then? Charlotte: It's still so hard to believe, but yes... she is. Harper: Why is she here? Charlotte: I was going to ask you the very same question... Harper gives Charlotte a look and Charlotte responds with a "I know you know something" look. Charlotte: You've been on this island for a while now and know things. What did Ben have my mother here for? Harper: I told you, I had no clue she was... Charlotte: Stop with innocent act, I saw your face when you spotted her at the Barracks. Harper: Look, I heard of her, but I never knew it was true. Charlotte: How do you mean? Harper: She is supposedly Ben's long lost love... but left the island after she had a child, you.
Charlotte looks at her mother then back at Harper. Charlotte: Then why is she here... now? Harper: All I know is she was important at the Orchid. Charlotte: That's where Daniel was worried about, why he said we had to get off the island... Harper: I never saw her file. It wasn't with the others. I think it was kept with her husband, your father, where he worked. Charlotte: Her file? Harper: According to rumor, she had something to do with the parapsychology studies. Charlotte: Parapsychology? You mean, psychic? Harper: No, not psychic... Charlotte: Then what? Harper pauses then looks at Charlotte very seriously. Harper: Telekinetic. Charlotte looks back to Harper with a look of dumbfouded-ness. Just then Jin wakes up screaming. Jin: It's 2004! 2004!
Juliet looks at Sawyer then they contain Jin and press him down against the cot. Juliet takes out a syringe and injects Jin. Sawyer: Why'd you do that?! Juliet: It's just to sedate him, he must be in shock. The camera pans to Jin's face as he slips into unconsciousness. Juliet looks at Jin's arm where she injected him and sees another injection mark from where Pierre injected Jin. She looks at it strangely and Sawyer notices. Sawyer: What? What is it? Juliet: He's been injected with something recently. Sawyer: Ok...but from who, the polar bears? Juliet looks at Jin's arm again and there is an orange stain on his skin running down from the injection sight. Juliet: I think I have an idea. (2:10) 6) INT. NUMBER STATION UNDER ARROW. DAY. Locke and Richard are looking around the new station. Richard seems genuinely intrigued as to the find. He walks to the far wall where there is a door. He goes to open it and Locke sees this. Locke: No, don't! I think I should take a look first. Richard stops and turns to Locke. He doesn't look to happy. Locke: We have an unfinished conversation. Rose, who is still standing by the ladder gets a look from Locke like she should leave. Rose:
I got ya, I don't want to be down here anyway. Rose begins to climb back up the ladder. John walks over to Richard and asks: Locke: What do you mean when you said you I wasn't on the list? Richard: Just that John, you weren't on the list. You aren't supposed to even be here. Locke: Then what am I still doing here Richard? Richard: I suppose Jacob needs you for something now. Locke smiles, a disgruntled smile, towards Richard and walks towards the door on the far wall. He stops half way there and turns. Locke: Then why did you help me with killing my father? Why did you give me Sawyer's file? Richard: I was using you, John.... I used you to make Ben think that you killed your father, to put things into perspective for him. Locke: Why would you do that? Richard: Ben has been wasting too much time dealing with unimportant issues. There were more important tasks at hand... you for instance, your plane and why it wound up on this island. He wasted too much time trying to raise a daughter, cure the infertility and pursue Juliet. His personal life blinded him and the result, well... this, John, is the result of his poor choices. Locke: Ben made me the leader. Richard: Well, then John, prove me wrong... prove to me that you are in fact the leader that Jacob wants. You have yet to pass a single test to prove you are. All the signs pointed to you from the beginning, but like Ben... you lack in certain qualities needed in a leader.
Locke looks frustrated and somewhat disappointed at what Richard has said. He turns back towards the door and walks to it. Richard looks on in anticipation. John puts his hand on the door knob and turns as the music builds, but nothing happens. The door won't open. It is locked. Locke turns back to Richard. Locke: Start checking pockets. Richard looks around at all the dead bodies and the camera pans to them as the music builds. Then black screen. --COMMERCIAL-20:20 w/ comm. 7) EXT. JUNGLE. DUSK. Bernard is hiking through the jungle in his bright red parka and he has his map out. The camera shows the map again then pans up to Bernard's face. Bernard: This can't be right... Bernard continues walking until he reaches a a small clearing. He looks up and he sees that he is directly in front of the Tempest. Bernard: Well, this is new... 8) INT. ARROW. DUSK. Rose and Amelia are sitting with Zach and Emma while some of the others are in the background fighting over food rations. Amelia: This isn't going to turn out well. Rose: What are we supposed to do? We have been so used to the Dharma food that fell from the sky... Amelia: I don't suppose hunting is an option anymore either. It's so cold that the animals probably went to seek warmth. Emma:
I'm hungry, where's Cindy? Rose looks down then back at Amelia. Rose: I'm worried. It's been over a day now since Bernard left. Just then, the door to the Arrow swings open. There stands Juliet and Charlotte with blankets over them. Rose and some of the others jump to their feet and rush over to them. Rose: I'm so glad you're back! Rose looks around and then out the door to look for Bernard. He is nowhere to be seen. She turns and grabs Juliet. Rose: Where is my husband?! Juliet: He turned back yesterday... about an hour after we left here... you mean? Rose: No! He's not here! Amelia walks over to Charlotte. Amelia: Where's Cindy? Charlotte: That psychotic bit... She looks down and sees Zach and Emma have come over behind Amelia. She gives Amelia a serious look and says: Charlotte: She's gone... where's Locke? Amelia points to the manhole in the floor that leads to the underground room. Charlotte looks at it, then at Amelia then walks over to the hole in haste. The camera pans back to Rose who is now ripping the blanket off of Juliet. Juliet: Rose, what do you think you're doing?
Rose: I'm going to find my husband! Juliet: Rose! Stop! Rose doesn't stop and Juliet rolls her eyes then runs out the door after her. (2:15) 9) INT. NUMBER STATION UNDER SWAN. DUSK. Locke and Richard are going through the pockets of the various skeletal remains of those laying around. Locke pulls a paper out of one of the pockets of the bodies that is wearing a Dharma lab coat. He unfolds the paper and looks at it. He raises an eyebrow just as Charlotte is heard coming down the ladder into the huge room. Locke quickly folds the paper and stuffs it in his pocket. Charlotte reaches the floor. Charlotte: Locke, I need to speak with you! Locke and Richard jump to their feet. Charlotte hurries over to Locke and hands him the letter that Jin had that said "Love Daniel." Charlotte: Read it. Locke takes the letter and reads it to himself. He looks up at Charlotte in surprise. Locke: You mean, you got this from your scientist friend? Charlotte: Not exactly. Jin had it when he got back to the Barracks. He must have run into Daniel at some point. Locke: Jin's alive? Were there any others? Charlotte: No... well, there was a French man, but... he's dead. At the mention of a Frenchman Richard raises his head in attention. Locke:
A Frenchman? Charlotte: Yeah, Juliet said he died going through the fence.... after a polar bear ripped off his arm. Richard's eyes widen as he listens to the conversation. He must realize that it was Montand. Locke looks at the letter again. There is a small diagram and a map that has the Arrow in the middle of it. Locke: Well, Charlotte, he wanted us here... right where we stand. And that, that is the door he talks about, but it's locked and I don't have the key. Charlotte takes out the envelope that the letter was in. She turns it upside down and a key drops out of it. Charlotte: Is this what you're looking for? Locke looks at Charlotte and nods. He takes the key out of her hand and proceeds to the door. Locke reaches the door and puts the key in. He turns it and the door unlocks. He pulls the door open. As he opens the door a bright blinding light pours out from the inside. Charlotte and Richard shield their eyes as Locke opens it completely. The camera pans to Locke from the back as his body stands in front of the incredibly bright light creating a silhouette in front of the doorway. 10) INT. TEMPEST. NIGHT. Bernard has entered the Tempest and is descending down the metal stairs. As he does this he looks to the right where Juliet and Charlotte had battled it out with the computers and the machinery all flashing their lights. He reaches the bottom and looks to his left where the wall seems to be pushed inwards, like it is a secret room. Bernard pushes the wall and the wall swings open to expose a long hallway. Bernard walks down the hall and enters a domed room (about the size of the Swan's computer room). On the far wall is a large map that appears to be an electronic map of the island. There are no discernible landmarks on the map, but the map is color coded like you would see on a weather man's map that shows temperature. The majority of the map is orange in color with some red and some yellow. There is a sign below the map that reads ".....al temperature" with a large machine covering up the first part. There is a legend that reads "Red: High Temporal Zone, Orange: Above Average, Yellow: Average, Green: Below Average and Purple: Neutral." Bernard sees this. Bernard: That can't be right. Bernard walks to one of the computers and a document beside it has a letterhead that says "DHARMA METEOROLOGICAL STUDIES."
Bernard: This must be what Locke was looking for... Bernard looks at the computer screen and there is a lot of information on the screen regarding gas pressure and methane and ethylene levels. Bernard looks at all of this and sits down in front of the computer. Bernard: Methane.... methane retain heat... The computer screen says, "Press 4 to release methane pressure." Bernard, unsure of what he is doing, goes to press the button, but pulls his finger away at the last second because he hears a sound behind him. He turns, but no one is there. As he turned he knocked the document and some pens off of the table, but beneath it is another document that reads, "Pythia Experiment: Neurological-Psychological Study, 1988," with a big red stamp over it that says, "DISCONTINUED." He opens it and there is a photo of Robert, Sam and Leonard from 1988 being held in a room blindfolded. Next to the photo is a diagram of the container/gas bomb that was thrown at Danielle's group in 5.6 near the Black Rock. The chemical on the container is "C2H4." Bernard turns the chair again to get up and as he does this he steps on one of the pens and loses his footing falling back onto the computer. He knocks the monitor off the table and his hand falls onto the keyboard. Bernard, very freaked out, hurries to his feet and looks around, but nothing has happened. He begins to walk out of the room but just then a siren goes off and he looks at the screen of the monitor that fell onto the floor. It says "Ethylene Pressure Levels Rising." With the siren going off, a valve on a pipe in the floor busts open and releases some sort of gas. A voice over the intercom says "Area Contaminated. Quarantine Activated." Bernard turns to run out of the room, but as he does that the same type of blast door map from the Swan falls from the top of the doorway trapping Bernard in the room. He puts his back against the blast door and slides to the ground. He looks around panic stricken and kisses his wedding ring as the flash sound begins... Bernard: I love you Rose, oh God... I love you. 11) --FLASH-- INT. JUDGE'S CHAMBERS. CITY HALL. DAY. Bernard, in a suit and tie, and Rose, in a long purple dress, stand looking at eachother as Rose says: Rose: I do. Bernard smiles and the camera pans to the judge. Judge: By the power invested in me by the state of New York, I hereby declare you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.
Bernard pulls Rose close and in the most romantic of ways, kisses her. The scene skips to Rose and Bernard walking down the hallway of the courthouse. They are walking hand in hand down the hall until Rose looks down and realizes something. Rose: Oh no, I left the marriage certificate back in the judge's chambers! Bernard: Well, that's not a good start to our life together... He smiles and Rose hits him with her bag across the arm in a playful manner. Rose: Bernard! Please, don't jinx it! Stay here, I will be right back. Rose turns to leave and Bernard grabs on to her arm. She turns and he kisses her. Bernard: Hurry back, I want to spend every minute of the rest of my life with you. Rose smiles and walks off. Bernard walks to the window and looks out. A man comes up behind Bernard and says: Man: Just married eh? Bernard turns and sees the man. It is Matthew Abaddon! Bernard: Oh, yes, how'd you know. Abaddon: I can see it in her eyes. Bernard: Oh, yeah, I've waited along time for this. Abaddon: For what? Bernard: Well, to spend the rest of my life with the woman I love. Bernard smiles and Abaddon smiles too. Abaddon suddenly gets very serious.
Abaddon: Ah, I guess it didn't work out the first time then. Bernard shoots a look at Abaddon. Bernard: Excuse me? Abaddon: Well, you were married once before weren't you Mr. Landsworth? Bernard's eyes get big and he look furious. He turns and pushes Abaddon up against the wall. Bernard: How the hell do you know that name? Abaddon: I know a lot more than you think. I also know that when you told your wife back there that you wanted to be with her for the rest of your life... you should have said for the rest of her life. Bernard gives a squinty death stare to Abaddon. Abaddon: I know all about her cancer, Bernard. That is why I brought you this. Abaddon hands Bernard a pamphlet about Isaac of Uluru in Australia. Bernard: What's this? Abaddon: Just read it and when you decide to take her there. I will be in contact with you. Abaddon turns and walks off, but stops and looks back to Bernard who looks speechless. Abaddon: It would be a shame to start your marriage off with Rose finding out that you lied to her about your past. I will be in contact. Abaddon walks off just as Rose comes up from behind. Rose:
Who was that? Bernard watches as Abaddon walks off then turns to Rose and smiles. Bernard: Oh, he was just some guy who was envious that I have such a beautiful new wife. Rose smiles and hugs Bernard. Bernard hugs rose while watching Abaddon walk away. Abaddon turns and gives a shifty smile to Bernard. The music builds and the camera goes abruptly to black. -COMMERCIAL(33:45) 12) INT. STAFF STATION. NIGHT. Sawyer and Harper are sitting in silence with Jin still sedated and Annie laying on the O.R. table. Sawyer is reading through some old Dharma charts and Harper is staring at Annie. Sawyer notices how intent Harper's stare is and asks: Sawyer: How long since the last time you've seen her? Harper: Huh? Oh, this is the first. Sawyer: Come on, I'm sure you've seen the file Ben had on me... I'm a con-man, I know when people lie. Harper: You're a con-man eh? Sawyer: You're a shrink and I know you like mind games... so out with it... where do you know her from? Harper: I've never seen her before in my life, but I've heard things about her. Sawyer: Yeah yeah... shes telepathic...
Harper: No, she's telekinetic, there's a big difference. Sawyer looks at Harper as if he has no clue what the difference is. Harper takes note of this. Harper: She can move objects through space... with her mind. Sawyer gets a grin on his face. Sawyer: Is that so? Harper: ...so I've been told. Sawyer: So, then... is she the one who moved the island? Harper raises an eyebrow and looks at Sawyer doubtfully. Harper: I don't think so. Sawyer: Then what did? Harper: My best guess?....Magic. Sawyer gives Harper an unapproved look at her lame answer. He goes back to reading and Harper gets up and walks over towards Jin. Suddenly the ground violently shakes and the entire station begins trembling. Sawyer and Harper look at each-other in shock and Sawyer jumps up. They look around as the lights are swinging around and one of the overhead lights breaks off and is sent swinging against the wall, shattering. The shaking continues as the scene jumps to: 13) INT. ARROW STATION. NIGHT. The shaking continues and Amelia grabs Zach and Emma and holds them close. Some of the others in the station are running for cover and some run outside. Here we see some of the random red-shirts from the beach camp along with Richard's group helping each other seek shelter. The scene jumps to: 14) INT. NUMBER STATION UNDER ARROW. NIGHT.
Locke is standing in front of the door he just opened with Richard and Charlotte behind him. The lights begin to flicker and eventually they go out for a second. Then back on. The shaking stops. Locke turns around and looks back to Charlotte and Richard. Locke: You all right? Charlotte and Richard nod "yes." Locke turns back to the room, which is no longer emitting the extremely bright light and walks in. The camera shows the room in one sweep of the camera from the left side of the room to the right. We see that it is nothing more than a simple office about 15 feet wide and 10 feet deep with a long desk along the far wall that is attached to the wall with monitors built into the wall over it. None of the monitors are working or are on. There is a filing cabinet under the built in desk and papers/folders all over the desk. When the camera finally reaches the right side of the room we see a body of a Dharma employee with a lab coat on. Finally, in the back right hand corner of the office stands Christian Shephard! Locke, surprised by this, jumps back and the door to the room slams shut behind him. The camera shows Charlotte and Richard run to the door on the outside and Charlotte is pounding on it as Locke stands there looking at Christian. Christian: I told you to move it, John. Locke: What? Christian: The island, I told you to move it. Locke looks at Christian puzzled. Christian gets up and moves towards Locke and Locke backs up against the wall where there is an intercom much like that in Jack's aquarium cell in the Hydra. Christian: Let it go, John. Your job isn't on this island. Let it go. Locke steps forward away from the wall and away from the intercom buttons. He looks adamantly at Christian. Locke: No, the island is my destiny! Christian: In due time John, you will see the way. Time is relevant. Charlotte pounds on the door again and John looks back towards Christian, but he is gone. One of the monitors in the background flicker on and it shows Christian walking into
Jacob's cabin and Claire waiting on the porch. The monitor flickers back off. John didn't see this. John turns and opens the door to Charlotte and Richard waiting outside. Charlotte: What happened?! Locke looks at Richard and answers: Locke: I saw the light. Charlotte: ...and? Locke: ...and it was grim. Charlotte looks at Locke confused and Richard looks at Locke as if Locke finally understands he isn't "him." Locke walks past the two of them and towards the ladder up to the Arrow. Charlotte: Where are you going? Locke: I need some answers. Charlotte: But, the letter! Daniel said you have to... Locke: That isn't my place anymore. Locke answers without looking at Charlotte and continues up the ladder. Richard follows leaving Charlotte alone in the sub-station. 15) EXT. JUNGLE.NIGHT. Rose is marching with determination through the jungle shouting, "Bernard!" as Juliet is trailing behind trying to keep up with her. Juliet: Rose! Rose, stop! Rose:
Bernard! Can you hear me?! Juliet: Rose, this is pointless, you can't find him out here in the dark... Rose stops and turns to Juliet. She walks with a fire in her eye towards Juliet who has stopped and sees Rose's determination. Rose: Don't you tell me what I can't do! This is my husband we're talking about! Juliet stands there looking at Rose who is now starting to break down and tears are forming in her eyes. Rose: He's out there, all alone... in the cold darkness... and whatever that earthquake... or whatever it was... he's all alone, Juliet! Rose begins to cry and hugs onto Juliet who just stands there at first, then hugs Rose back. Juliet: We'll find him, Rose... Rose: No, you're right, how could we find him tonight, in the dark? Juliet looks around then upwards and the camera shows the sky. There is slight haze of yellow in the sky above the island in the distance. Juliet's mouth drops open. Juliet: Rose, I know where he is. 16) INT. TEMPEST. DAWN. Bernard wakes upon his back underneath the doorway out of the hidden room. He is looking up at where the blast door falls out from. He quickly gets up and looks around. The room has been discheveled due to the violent "shake" that happened while he was passed out. Bernard looks to the far wall where the map of the island is and now a majority of the map is red indicating high temperature. The machine that was in front of the map blocking the first part of the sign "....al temperature" has fallen over and now the sign is readable. It says, "Geothermal Temperature." Bernard looks confused as a sound is heard from his left. He looks over and there he sees Ana Lucia! She is wearing an all white robe/dress and her hair is up in a bun. Very Greek like. Bernard looks hard at her as if he doesn't believe his eyes. Bernard:
Ana? Ana Lucia: Hello Bernard. Bernard: I thought you were dead... Michael shot you! Ana Lucia: I am Bernard, but you brought me here. Bernard: I brought yo... Ana Lucia: You started a chain of events, Bernard. A chain that can't be stopped now. Bernard: What did I do?! Ana Lucia: You put the island in danger... and only you can make this right. Bernard looks around like he doesn't believe his eyes. He looks back to Ana in disbelief. Ana Lucia: Your mission begins now. Bernard: And what is this... mission...? Ana Lucia: There will be a visitor and you must make sure Locke finds him. Locke will know what to do, but first, you need to secure the device. Bernard: The device? Bernard looks at Ana confused. Ana Lucia:
Yes, Bernard, the device. The device that will begin a new chain of events. The device that will bring her back. Bernard is a bit more agitated now. Bernard: Bring who back?! Ana Lucia: The device Bernard. Find it. There is a sound outside in the main room in the Tempest and Bernard hears it. He turns towards the door. He hears: Rose: Bernard?! Are you in here?! Bernard turns back to Ana who is now gone. He shakes his head and then runs out of the room down the corridor towards Rose's voice. Rose: Bernard?! Bernard reaches the main room and he turns towards Rose. The camera shows Rose, but Bernard doesn't see Rose. He sees someone else. The camera shows Rose from behind from Bernard's POV and the woman is blond. Bernard: Emily? The camera shows Bernard looking at the back of Emily, who is wearing what Rose is wearing, but isn't Rose. The flash sound begins. 17) INT. BERNARD'S DENTAL OFFICE. NEW YORK CITY. DAY. Bernard, wearing his dentist get up, is walking out of one of the dental procedure rooms at his practice. As he is walking out he says: Bernard: Hank, you really need to floss, us dentists don't just say that because we know you hate it. Bernard walks to his receptionist room where he stops at the desk. Bernard: Lucy... I'm done for the day. I've got to get out of here before rush hour. Bernard begins to put his coat on as Lucy stops him.
Lucy: Dr. Nadler, wait a minute. You have an urgent message from someone. Bernard: If Ms. Thompson is complaining about pain again, tell her I can't write her anymore prescriptions. Lucy: No, it's from a woman who says her name is Emily. Bernard: Oh? Lucy: She wants you to meet her at 42nd and 8th Ave. at the World Cafe. Bernard: Time Square? I don't think so. Lucy: She said its about a Mr. Landsworth. Bernard's eyes widen and he begins to look nervous. Bernard: What time?! Lucy: 20 minutes. Bernard hurries and puts his coat back on and runs out of his office. 18) --FLASH CON'T-- INT. WORLD CAFE. TIME SQUARE. NEW YORK CITY. DAY. Bernard walks in from the street to the cafe which is very large. He looks around, but he can't seem to find what he is looking for. The camera pans to many people. One of those people is Walt's grandmother! Bernard walks towards her and she takes her order from the counter and begins to walk out. Their eyes meet and nothing happens. She walks right past him and he walks past her. The camera finally pans to a woman with blond hair who is sitting down with her back to us. Bernard walks over to her and he looks down as he passes and the camera shows a wheelchair and an oxygen tank. Bernard: Emily?
The woman turns and it is revealed who she is. It is Kate's mother, Diane! Diane: Bernard. Bernard takes a seat across from her. He looks her over in awe. Diane looks very sick. Bernard: Emily, what has happened to you?! Diane: Cancer happened, Bernard... and quit calling me Emily. You know it's Diane now. Bernard: Sorry... but, why are you here, in New York? Diane: The past has come back to haunt us. Diane puts a photo down of her and Bernard, very young, at an alter in a Las Vegas. Bernard takes the photo and examines it. Bernard: We were so young... Diane: ... and stupid. Bernard, what have you gotten yourself into? Are you back in the service? Bernard: No, what... why are you asking this? Diane: A man came to my house in Iowa. He said he worked with the CIA and he needed me to persuade you to go to Australia. Diane puts down the same brochure that Abaddon gave Bernard and two plane tickets. Diane: He said you have to go or he's going to tell our families about our past. I've been Diane Janssen since the day we divorced, Bernard. I had to start my life over from scratch... to protect myself, to protect you. I started a family and moved on... I'm not going to ruin that now.
Bernard looks at Diane with a lot of sympathy. Diane: Whatever they want you to do Bernard, you need to do it. You owe it to me. Bernard looks at Diane, with angst. Bernard: ...but I don't know what they want me to do. Diane: He told me to tell you to enjoy your honeymoon and that he will contact you when you're coming home. Bernard: Em.. Diane, I have a wife now... we are happy. Diane: I have nothing, Bernard, except my name! Do this! Diane looks weak and she puts her hand up. Someone wearing a suit comes over to her and takes her wheelchair and begins to wheel her out. Diane: Do it Bernard. Rose doesn't deserve to get her heart broken. With that, Diane is wheeled off and we see Bernard sitting at the table, alone. He takes the tickets in his hands and he just stares at them then looks back up towards Diane. --Commercial-47:10 w/comm 19) --FLASH-- INT. SYDNEY AIRPORT. DAY. Bernard is sitting with Rose in the waiting area at the gate. He looks rather nervous, but he stands up and says to Rose: Bernard: I gotta go to the bathroom. I'll be right back. He bends down and kisses Rose on the cheek. He stops for a second and looks deeply into her eyes. Bernard: I love you Rose.
Rose: Bernard, you're just going to the bathroom! Bernard: I know, I just wanted you to know that. Bernard walks off. He is now standing in front of a door that reads "Employees Only." He looks around, then opens the door. He walks in. The camera cuts to Bernard walking down a flight of stairs and he is standing under the terminal where all the baggage is. He looks at one of the carts and he notices that it says "Flight 815." Bernard walks over to it and finds the bag that he checked with his information on it. He looks around again to make sure noone is around and he opens it. The camera shows the inside of a bag which holds some complex machinery. Part of the machine says "Holmium Charge" and there is a clock beside it that isn't activated. He flips a switch and the clock switches on to "1:00," and a green light flicks on beside it. Bernard takes out a remote control. He zips up the bag and turns around and walks towards the stairwell. Just then a man in a security uniform comes up to him. Security: Hey! You! Just what do you think you're doing down here?! Bernard's eyes get big and he turns around and puts on a confused and flustered act. Bernard: Oh, thank God! I thought that door up there was the employee's bathroom and when I went through it locked behind me... I was looking for someone to help me out. The security guard looks Bernard over, suspicious. Security: Come with me... The guard takes him to the door and he puts his key in and unlocks it. He looks back to Bernard. Security: You're lucky I don't take you in. Bernard: Thank you, thank you sir. I really appreciate it! Bernard begins to turn the handle as the security guard stops him. Security: You know what, I better take you upstairs.
The security guard takes out his handcuffs and Bernard closes his eyes looking defeated, but his walkie beeps and he answers. Security: Yeah?... I have a situation here... an Iraqi with an unattended bag... I'll be right up. He puts his walkie down and turns to Bernard. Security: You're lucky this time, buddy... now get the hell out of here. Bernard shakes his head and opens the door. As he does this, he almost hits Christine DeVries as he comes out (as seen in 5.5). Bernard: Oh, I am so sorry Miss. I almost bumped you over. Christine: It's completely fine sir. Bernard: My fault, I thought this was the bathroom... Christine walks off and Bernard picks up his cell phone and dials. Cindy is seen watching Bernard as he dials. The camera switches back and forth between the phone call. Bernard: It's done. Abaddon: The door was unlocked then? Bernard: Yes. The camera shows Abaddon checking off a piece of paper that has a photo of Cindy Chandler with a list beside her that says "Unlock Baggage Door; Take Care of Lapidus; Ensure Shephard Boards Plane." He checks off the door plan and we see that the Lapidus plan has already been checked. Bernard: You swear to me this isn't a bomb? Abaddon:
You worked for the CIA, did that look like a bomb you've ever seen? Bernard: No... I guess not. Abaddon: I told you, you push that button exactly when I told you to during the flight. It will disable all electronic devices in the cabin. You do this, Bernard, and you will be stopping a terrorist from detonating a bomb. You'll be a hero. Bernard: And that's it, nothing else. Abaddon: No, that's it. Remember, exactly when I told you. Bernard hangs up the phone. The camera cuts to Bernard sitting on the plane with Rose and he looks at his watch. He gets up and whispers to Rose: Bernard: Bathroom. The camera shows Bernard sitting on the toilet looking at his watch again and holding the remote control. He is sweating and staring at the remote. He closes his eyes and is about to press the button when the plane hits the turbulence. Bernard stands up, but drops the remote in the toilet. He goes to get it and the plane bounces again, this time hard. A flight attendant knocks on the door and says: Flight Attendant: Excuse me! You have to take your seat! Sir! Bernard looks in the toilet and the plane shakes again and Bernard hits the "flush" button by accident. The remote is gone. He holds his head and the flight attendant is still yelling for him. He opens the door and walks out just as the flight attendant pushes him into a seat and buckles him in. Bernard looks towards the bathroom, but just then the back part of the plane snaps off and the flight attendant is sucked out the back. The flash sound begins. 20) --END FLASH-- INT. TEMPEST. NIGHT. Bernard is looking at Rose, dazed. Bernard: Emily, get out of my way... I have to complete the mission... Rose:
Emily? What are you talking about, Bernard?! Bernard: Get out of my way! Bernard pushes Rose aside and runs up the stairs and out of the Tempest. Juliet runs over to Rose with a gas mask. Juliet: Put this on! He released the ethylene gasses! Rose looks at Juliet with concern. Rose: Ethylene gasses? Juliet: Yeah, now put this on! Rose grabs the mask and puts it on. Juliet: They aren't dangerous, they're pent up gasses under the island. Rose: What about Bernard?! Juliet: He's hallucinating, he had a high exposure. Come on! 21) EXT. JUNGLE. MORNING. The two of them run outside and look around. Bernard is gone. Rose: Where is he?! Juliet: I don't know. Rose rips off her mask and looks directly at Juliet. Rose:
What do you mean these gases are built up under the island?! Juliet looks down, then back to Rose in her "Juliet has a confession" manner. Juliet: Rose, those are delicate gasses built up around the island's volcano. Bernard released the pressure.... The camera shows Rose's face. She looks worried. Juliet: And that isn't a good thing. The music builds and the camera shows Bernard running through the jungle. He keeps running until he runs directly into someone and hits them falling over. Bernard looks around and he sees the seats he was in when he was stuck in the tree after the plane wreck. Bernard looks up and it is the French woman he tackled in the beginning wearing the same red high heels and low cut top. Beside her is General Talbot. Bernard stands up and salutes him. Bernard: General, I am on task, sir. General Talbot: This is your chance at redemption, Sargent. The general points upwards. Bernard looks up and in the tree is the suitcase Bernard had checked with the device in it. Bernard salutes him again and begins to climb the tree. The camera cuts to Bernard reaching the top. He grabs onto the suitcase and he looks down to the General. Bernard: I got it, sir! Bernard grabs the suitcase, but looses his footing, falling out of the tree with the suitcase. He lands on the ground -THUMP- and his head smashes off the ground. The suitcase sits beside him. Bernard takes a breath and his eyes roll back in his head. The camera pans over-top of him and moves upwards into the tree showing Bernard laying on the ground with the General and the French woman gone. 22) EXT. JUNGLE. MORNING. Locke is standing outside of Jacob's cabin with nothing on but his tee-shirt and cargo pants. His breath is apparent, but the cold doesn't seem to be bothering him. He has a look of determination in his eye and he approaches the cabin. He opens the door and walks in looking around, but doesn't see anyone in there. Locke:
Jacob! Show yourself! Nothing happens then he hears a voice behind him. He turns and Claire is standing in the doorway. Locke: Claire?!... are you all right?! Claire: I'm fine, John. Locke: Why, how are you... have you seen Jacob?! Claire: No, but he has a job for you to do. Locke: What job? What is my reason for being here? John looks desperate, especially desperate because he is asking Claire for guidance when he once gave her guidance. Claire: You have to leave, John, you have to bring them all back. Locke: Who? Who do I have to bring back? Claire: All of them, all of them who have left since you blew up the Swan. Locke looks at Claire with a look of confusion and complete devotion. Locke: Everyone? Claire hands Locke a list. The names are: Kate A., Desmond H., Sayid J., Sun K., Aaron L., Benjamin L., Walt L., Hugo R., Jack S., and the camera pans down to the last name. It is of someone who hasn't been mentioned before. It is Kaname T. Locke: Who's that... how am I supposed to bring them back?!
Claire: Find Bernard. He has all the answers. Locke: Bernard? The camera shows Claire then Locke looking back at the list. The camera focuses on "Kaname T." 23) INT. NUMBER STATION OFFICE. UNDER ARROW. MORNING. Charlotte is reading over Daniel's letter again. The camera shows the words, "Find the Tape and you will understand..." Charlotte gets up and looks around the office. Once again, on the monitor we see Jacob's Cabin with Locke walking out of it, but Charlotte doesn't notice. She spots the filing cabinet and she opens it. She is searching through and she comes across the name "Jeanette Staples" and Charlotte pulls out the file. As she does this she pulls an envelope out that is inside of it and it falls to the floor. The front of the envelope is addressed to "John Locke: 2009." Charlotte picks up the envelope and pulls out a tape. She looks at it oddly and then goes back to the file of her mother. She opens the file and the page says: "Jeanette Staples: Telekinetic Research. Attempt 51." The picture that corresponds with it shows a young Annie with her hands raised in the air and a bicycle upside down apparently floating in front of her. Charlotte looks at the picture with astonishment and quickly gets up and puts the file back together and picks up the tape. As Charlotte turns to walk out of the room the camera shows a gun being pointed directly at her forehead. Charlotte looks up at the gun, shocked, then up at who is holding it. She gasps and says: Charlotte: Jesus, what are you doing here, Miles?! Miles: I'm here to stop you, Charlotte. The camera pans to the two of them with Miles holding a gun to Charlotte's face as the music builds and....
