In the mouth, where amylase breaks it into sugar!

15

Where does chemical digestion of proteins begin?

16

In the stomach, where gastric juice breaks it down.

17

Where does chemical digestion of starches END?

18

In the small intestine, with pancreatic juice.

19

What liquid that we have studied do you think will break down steak the most? Where in your body can you find that liquid?

20

•Gastric juice will break down steak the most because it is protein! •In your stomach.

21

Which solution was able to diffuse through the membrane?

22

Sugar solution because it is small enough for diffusion.

23

What was the most important thing you learned from the experiment with the egg whites?

24

Gastric juice does the best job of breaking down proteins.

25

1) What did the oil represent when we were squeezing the tennis ball? 2) What did your hands represent?

When we did the egg white experiment, we had to let the egg white sit in the liquids overnight. When we did the amylase experiment, we tested for starch and sugar after only 5 minutes. Why did we have to wait such a long time for the egg white, but not for the amylase? 30

Because the amylase experiment was about your mouth. Food stays in your mouth for a short amount of time. But the egg white experiment was about your stomach. Food stays in your stomach for several hours! 31
