WORK METHOD 1. Concrete Chipped off With No Exposure of Reinforcement 

Hack off and remove all loose parts from the affected area and feather the edges.

Clean surface and remove any dust.

Wet surface with water but ensure there is no free surface water before application of grout and apply bonding agent ‘Fosroc Nitobond AR’.

Apply the repair mortar Sto Crete NSG / NSG-S.

‘Sika ANTISOL – S’ or ‘Stocryl SCC Supreme’ curing compound is then used.

All works will be recommendations.

2. Concrete Chipped off With Exposure of Reinforcement 

Hack off and remove all loose parts from the affected area to 20mm behind exposed reinforcing and feather the edges.

Put up formwork at the affected area to hold repair materials in shape if necessary.

Apply reinforcement protection primer ‘Fosroc Nitoprime Zincrich’ to the exposed reinforcement (if grouting will be done after 24 hours).

Wet surface with water but ensure there is no free surface water before application of bonding agent ‘Fosroc Nitobond AR’.

Apply the repair mortar ‘Sto Crete NSG / NSG-S’.

3. Voids on Surface (Blow Holes) 

Remove all loose parts from the affected area.

Moisten the exposed concrete surface.

The surface must be free from standing water, oil and grease. Dust, dirt and other foreign particles must also be removed.

Wet the surface and then the blowholes are filled in with cement paste (Portland cement) applied by trowel with excess removed to maintain a smooth finish.

4. Recess for Lifting Hook 

Cut off lifting strand from base of the recess, with minimal 50mm deep without damaging reinforcement.

The surface must be free from standing water, oil and grease. Dust, dirt and other foreign particles must also be removed. .

‘Sika ANTISOL – S’ or ‘Stocryl SCC Supreme’ curing compound is then used.

5. Cone Holes 

Remove plastic cones.

The surface must be free from standing water, oil and grease. Dust, dirt and other foreign particles must also be removed.

Wet the surface and apply the mortar ‘Sto Crete NSG / NSG-S’.

‘Sika ANTISOL – S’ or ‘Stocryl SCC Supreme’ curing compound is then used.

6. Honey Combing / Spalling A. Trowellable Method (Honeycomb 5mm to 50mm deep) 

All areas where exposed aggregate is present, cleaning and hacking back to sound concrete.

Sound concrete is described as fully compacted and monolithic without the presence of voids or loose aggregate.

Wet surface with water but ensure there is no free surface water before application of bonding agent ‘Fosroc Nitobond AR’.

Apply the repair mortar Sto Crete NSG / NSG-S’.

‘Sika ANTISOL – S’ or ‘Stocryl SCC Supreme’ curing compound is then used.

B. Flowable Method (Honeycomb 51mm to 100mm deep) 

Use marker pen to draw a line around the defective area.

Saw cut 5 to 10mm deep along the marked line to avoid feathered edges.

Use a breaker to remove all the unsound concrete. Continue hacking until sound homogeneous concrete is reached.

Clean-off the prepared area with water to remove all dust. Remove all rust from exposed rebar using wire brush.

Apply reinforcement protection primer ‘Fosroc Nitoprime Zincrich’ to the exposed reinforcement

Wet surface with water but ensure there is no free surface water before application of bonding agent ‘Fosroc Nitobond AR’.

Put up formwork at the affected area to hold repair materials in shape if necessary.

Flow the repair mortar ‘Sto Crete NSG/ NSG-S from one side only to avoid air entrapment’.

C. Pressure Grout Method (Honeycomb 101mm to 200mm deep) 

Pre-wet the substrate surface to saturate and clear any excess water.

Apply ‘Fosroc Nitobond AR’ bonding agent to the substrate.

Fix chicken wire mesh to the existing rebar and pack with 4 to 10mm aggregates, if required, additional rebars to be drilled to allow fixing of chicken wire mesh

Fix the formwork to the surface to be grouted with provision of air release vents to the top part and grout inlet hose to the bottom part. All edges to be made leakproof using sponge in between the formwork and the concrete surface

Mix StoCrete NSG / NSG-S as per manufacturer specifications.

Pump the grout using a hand pump fitted with a gauge through the inlet hose until the grout overflows from the air release vents

Close the air vent hose and maintain a pressure of 1 bar for 30 seconds to ensure grout has filled up all the voids

Disconnect the inlet hose from the pump and block the hose

Leave to cure until grout is set and remove the formwork

Use a breaker to remove all the unsound concrete. Continue hacking until sound homogeneous concrete is reached.

Clean-off the prepared area with water to remove all dust. Remove all rust from exposed rebar using wire brush.

Pre-wet the substrate surface to saturate and clear any excess water.

Apply Fosroc Nitobond AR’ or Stocrete SBR-HD bonding agent to the substrate.

Fix the surface to be concreted with a funnel top edge (as necessary). Formwork to be higher than the surface to be repaired. All edges to be made leak-proof using sponge in between the formwork and the concrete surface

Cast back with Approved Concrete Mix Design or approved NSGrout

Leave to cure until concrete / NS Grout is set, before removing the formwork

Use a grinder to remove excess concrete on top part and sides and make surface even

Apply Stocryl SCC-Supreme curing compound with a roller or spray after removing the formwork

7. Shrinkage Cracks (width less than or equal to 0.2mm) Cracks in the precast wall panels with widths below 0.20mm will be repaired as follows: 

The surface must be free from standing water, oil and grease. other foreign particles must also be removed.

Dry pack OPC cement will be brushed into all the cracks.

Water will be applied to the dry packed surface and brushed in to the dry packed cracks to from a seal.

Dust, dirt and

10 OHS&E HAZARD IDENTIFICATION, RISK ASSESSMENT & CONTROL H Hazard identification, risk assessment and control will be principally managed and documented through use of the PEP Att. 13-1 HSE Risk Register (MMS# 020-Y001-7566). Relevant SWI’s, SOPs and EPIs will be implemented and followed. JSEA / SWMS’s will be prepared to cover specific risks associated with the works. Development and implementation of the JSEA / SWMS and the associated documentation (SWI’s; SOP’s; EPIs; etc...) will be undertaken with the personnel involved in the works. These documents can then be viewed by the Client’s representative prior to work commencement. All personnel will complete the project site induction before being allowed access to the works. Operator competency will be recorded and plant inspections will be undertaken prior to any activity commencing. Daily start up meetings will be conducted and documented by Supervisors to ensure all safety measures are in place for the day’s activities.
