SERVICES Optical Fibre Installations Optical fibre offers the end user with a media, which provides very high bandwidth. This technology today is rapidly coming down in price. Optical fibre is generally installed in SCS (Structured Cabling Systems) within the backbone component or in the street for various Internet Service Providers or Telecommunications companies.

Key Benefits Provides Bandwidth / Speed / Increases network performance. This technology will last longer in the rapidly moving world of IT. Lightning Protection - less likely to take a direct hit from a lightning strike, as the cable is non-conductive. Is allowed to be installed along side Electrical Cabling to make use of existing electrical conduit routes and infrastructure

Reference Projects: TELSTRA: EDC are long-term business partners with Trenchless Pipelaying Services and have been introduced into Telstra Projects as their Fibre Optic Splicing Contractor. EDC assist TPC with the relocation of Telstra Fibre Optic cabling that is affected by TSA and Council road works and re-configuration. “An Industry Leader performing precise installations meeting customer needs." 5 of 16

This work requires EDC to disconnect and relocate fibre cabling and termination enclosures in the street pit & pipe U/G environment, above ground SCAD Frames and within Telstra Exchanges. Most of the cabling we are working with has live circuits that require interruption after hours and then re-connected and re-tested to Telstra standards before re-connection. OPTUS: Termination of over 4000 splices within the CBD infrastructure. Setup of the FAN site in Franklin Street. Our Fibre Optic Team Leaders have been trained by OPTUS on live OPTUS Networks to Terminate and Test to the stringent OPTUS standards. EDC have a current long term agreement with OPTUS to augment their local team of Fibre Technicians by providing specially trained technicians who are available as required 24 hours a day 7 days per week. EDC are one of a few contractors in Australia that OPTUS has trained and endorsed to work upon their live network without OPTUS staff supervision.

ETSA: The Installation and Termination of SMOF within various locations. Jointing of fibre within pits and communication rooms. Termination of fibre on live services. EDC have been involved with various Country projects where ETSA have rolled out their services in Pt Lincoln, Port Augusta and other major Country Centres. UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE: Supply & Install of 144 core SMOF from North Tec. to the Waite campus for the Adelaide University. EDC are a nominated Contractor for all University of Adelaide Fibre Optic Infrastructure projects. The projects include all internal Campus Backbone installation as well as Street Infrastructure built and owned by the University. The University of Adelaide is a major POP Site for many carriers working and doing business in Adelaide. EDC handle all the connections, adds, moves and changes regarding to their sites as they interface with carriers. UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA: EDC have recently completed a state-wide roll out with the Uni IT Department to refresh all of the Fibre Cabling in all Campuses. EDC assisted the UniSA with the design, budgets and staged project planning and the installation phases of the project. City East, Mawson Lakes and Magill Campuses have a redundant 144 core single mode G652.D ring around the campuses that service the main Secondary Building Fibre Distributors. The ring was installed in one continuous cable haul without any breaks following diverse routes from the Main Distribution Site and back again (over 2 km). At Magill EDC installed over 500 metres of new under-bored Pit & Pipe to complete the underground infrastructure required to provide alternative paths and a true physically redundant RING. City East, Mawson Lakes and Magill Campuses have all been designed with alternative internal and external cable paths to provide Redundant RINGs. EDC used TYCO FIST carrier type technology to cut and break out only the required tubes at each node location. There are many single spurs from the Secondary to Tertiary Distributors. During the project EDC brought many of the existing Tertiary Nodes up to the same standard as the rest of the new system, which required many live cut-overs without disruption to users.

Photo: Major UniSA Fibre Distribution Centre & Associated 10Gig LAN Upgrade The 144 core Main Ring Starts on one side travels around the Campus using alternate pathways then returns on the other side. The Core Switches provide automatic redundant LAN connections should one side of the ring get damaged.

By using Street/Carrier type termination Closures EDC and the UniSA were able to pass the Main Ring via major Secondary Fibre Distribution points to terminate the IN and OUT feeds without cutting the remaining tubes and fibres. The Main Ring cables were installed in one continuous length (2km) from the Primary Distributor through 4 x different major buildings and back again without the cable.

DEPARTMENT OF ADMINISTRATION INFORMATION SYSTEMS: Major and Minor moves and changes to Local Area Networks. Have installed and terminated street fibre for the Government Networks. EDC assisted DAIS IT with the upgrade of their Mission Critical DATA Server Centre for all of the State Departments IT solutions. The project required EDC to perform a major 3-week audit of all connected Data & Voice Copper and Fibre Services, Design, Prefabricate and install the new UTP CrossConnect Island Frame, Design & install the new LC Small Form Factor Fibre Termination and Cross Connect Solution, install new cabinets and associated Core/Edge Switches and build new overhead cable tray system to get all of the underfloor cabling removed to allow air-conditioning to operate more efficiently. The change-over from the old cabling infrastructure to the new state of the art Copper and Fibre Cross Connection System including disconnection and re-connection of all Critical Services was performed over 1 x 3 day Long Weekend using 2 x 13 hour rotating shifts of 7 technicians. The project was finished early with all service ready for use again for start of business after the long weekend.

Installing of Copper All SCS (Structured Cabling Systems) require backbone cabling. Part of that cabling is the multi pair copper cable. Copper cables range from 10 pair through to 100 pair. Indoor applications require internal copper using an outer sheath of PVC, while outdoor applications require external copper using a gel filled cable.

Testing All installations are tested for reverse pair & continuity of each cable installed and terminated. Copper cables are generally terminated on blocks at the frame known as Disconnect Modules.

Documentation Every cable installed with any installation is recorded in the "Record Book" and test results can be included with the compliance sheet. Under the industry regulations, all installations are required to have a compliance sheet signed and handed to the customer for their records.
