Interpreter To gain the badge you must complete all the requirements in one of the following alternatives:

Complete the following in any language other than your own. Carry on a simple conversation for approximately ten

Write a letter of approximately 150 words dealing with a Scout topic.

After a few minutes for study, give an approximate translation of a paragraph from a newspaper or periodical.
Assist as interpreter for a foreign visitor. Either: Write letters for a Scout Group, school or similar body, for example helping with the arrangements for a foreign visit or exchange. Or: Correspond regularly for not less than one year with a Scout or person of Scout age of another country.
Complete the following requirements in a recognised sign language such as Makaton or BSL. Carry out a simple conversation for approximately ten minutes. Describe a Scouting experience to another person. Act as a translator for a short conversation between a sign language user and someone with no sign language experience. Invite a sign language user to talk to your Troop about the experience of having hearing or speech impediments, or both. Act as translator for them during their visit.
