Wehby, MD, Chair) 13 14 15Whereas, Various agencies including web sites, private companies and insurance companies 16are starting to rate doctors; and 17 18Whereas, Several insurance companies are basing their rating on the cost incurred by a 19particular doctor; and 20 21Whereas, Several sites do not offer a recourse to a physician rated adversely without any 22objective basis; therefore be it 23 24RESOLVED, That our American Medical Association formulate policies on physician rating and 25urge insurance companies, third-party agencies, private companies, and Web sites to publish 26the methods of rating and specifically mention how much of such rating is dependent on the 27cost incurred by a particular doctor (Directive to Take Action) ; and be it further 28 29RESOLVED, That our AMA work to ensure transparency to the whole process of rating 30physicians with proper steps built in to address the grievances of the physicians involved. 31(Directive to Take Action) 32 33Fiscal Note: Implement accordingly at estimated staff cost of $4,969. 34 35Received: 05/06/09
