“Sharing a common thread!” Board Meeting The next board meeting will be Tuesday, July 7, 2009, 6:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny.
IT'S QUILT SHOW TIME! submitted by Lanae Rohwer It’s hard to believe the show is just a few days away! Special Thanks to the quilts show committee members: Lisa Starr – Quilt Show Chair Elect and Brochures Janeen Pearson – Vendor/Sponsors Becky McGregor – Raffle Quilt Christy Tigges – Refreshments Peggy Vestpestad – Country Store Pam Messer - Advertising Sharon McCarthy – Set up Jenna Engle – Take Down Volunteers – Thank you ahead of time to everyone who will volunteer at the show! We couldn’t have the successful show we have each year without your help!!! Of course we have Pam Clarke’s lectures to look forward to. I have attended several of her classes and she is a wonderful teach/speaker. I hope you can all make it to one or more of her lectures. Remember she will be speaking at 10am and 2pm both days and each lecture is a different topic. Advertising: Pam has done a great job of getting the word out and I hope we see record attendance as a result of her hard work. We are once again part Ankeny SummerFest and are included in all their advertising – we were mentioned in the June issue of Ankeny Living magazine.
Vendors: Janeen has done a wonderful job this year and has secured 17 vendors for our show. We have some old favorites as well as some new faces. I hope everyone will enjoy the vendor variety and will have a lot of fun shopping at the show. We will have vendor demos again this year – every hour of the show accept 10am & 2pm when Pam will be lecturing. Quilts: We received around 150 quilt entries and Lisa is working on getting all your information ready for the quilt show brochure. Thanks to everyone for getting your entries in - I can’t wait to see all your beautiful quilts hanging at the show! Refreshments: As mentioned in last month’s newsletter, Christy has changed our lunch menu this year and I think everyone will love the new options – we'll be serving pulled chicken and pulled pork sandwiches. There will also be pie, cookies & bars, beverages and cinnamon rolls for the morning crew. Country Store: Peggy is managing the country store again this year and is doing a great job. At last count we had over 60 items – but we still welcome more. Any last minute items should be brought to show setup at Faith Baptist College on Thursday. Raffle Quilt: Becky has done a wonderful job heading up the raffle quilt sales and coordinating the display of the raffle quilt at our sponsors. If you haven’t already turned you tickets and money into Becky you turn them in at the raffle quilt table at the show prior to the drawing. This year the prize for selling the most tickets is a sewing machine and the prize for selling the winning ticket is a gift certificate. Gemstone baskets have been put together and they look great! We have a nice variety of items in the baskets which should allow us to have a nice range for starting bid points. Please make sure you stop and see
the baskets, there is such a wonderful variety of items. Thanks to all who participated in donation of the items! See you at the show!
Quilt Show Refreshments submitted by Christy Tigges Only 14 people have signed up to bring desserts. Please consider donating cookies, bars, pies or other desserts or our offerings will be "slim pickings". We do not have access to a refrigerator so please do not bring any items that require refrigeration. To help ensure that we have an adequate supply for both days of the show, I'm asking those persons with last names starting with A-K to bring the desserts on Thursday afternoon/evening or Friday morning and L-Z on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.
Our Raffle Quilt wins award— Congratulations Lanae! This May our raffle quilt, pieced and quilted by Lanae Rohwer won an award at the IMQA show in Kansas City. The International Machine Quilters Association (IMQA) is the only trade organization for Machine quilters. The goal of the organization is to further the professional development of machine quilters and the profession of machine quilting as well as the development of machine quilters in the private sector. The Raffle quilt won a teacher's award at the 2009 show.
Breakfast: we'll be serving cinnamon rolls and muffins while they last. Lunch: Pies, cookies, bars etc while they last Cinnamon rolls, bars, pies: no need to cut and package. Items will stay fresher longer if cut right before serving. If you want your pan back, please write your name on the pan or place an address label on the bottom and I will return the pan to you. Cookies: please package 3-4 to a bag depending upon the size. I'll be contacting all of you who signed up to help serve to remind you of your time. There are still spots open from 3-6:30 on Friday and 2:30 - 4:30 on Sat. Please let me know if you can volunteer. 210-9131 or 965-9131. Thanks!
Donation Quilts and bags will be displayed at our Quilt Show
Quilter's Cupboard
submitted by Laura Parker I can't believe that it is time for the quilt show already! At the quilt show we will display all the donated quilts and activity bags before sending them off to ChildServe, Children and Families of Iowa and the Bangladesh Children's Hospital. Just a reminder, if you did not get your donated quilt to me at the last meeting, feel free to drop them off at the quilt show. To date, we have made a total of 74 donation quilts and 55 activity bags. I am so proud of the generosity of our guild members. Thanks to all of you for donating your time and resources to take care of those in need of some comfort.

Presidents Letter
Last minute country store items can be dropped off on Thursday morning during set up hours.
Hi guy and gals!! The Quilt Show is here, the next time I see ya all it will be over. It is kind of like a wedding, months of planning and in a few hours it's over, only with a wedding the parents are broke and at the end of the quilt show we have a big part of our funds for the year. Speaking of our funds for the year have you sold at least your original group of tickets? I'm still making country store things I don't know why I have to wait until I'm under pressure. Remember our next meeting, the quilt show wrap up is on July 21st back at Holy Trinity. The winning quilts will not be at the fair yet so we will be able to see the quilts before we have forgotten what they look like. Harriet Hargrave sent a short email saying that she enjoyed her time with us and would I please mail her bag with her alarm clock in it to her, she accidentally left it in my car. You'll have to ask me about the alarm clock it was the joke for her visit here. That and her strong desire to go to Maid Rite she had eaten there one other time and loved it. Our sympathy to Linda Northwick who lost her mother on the 11th. Lets go our there and give our time and talents to supporting Lanae and MaryLee at the quilt show!!!!!! Because nice matters Debbie Pierschbacher President
And alittle more from Debbie... Here is some added Quilt Show reminders, I figure if my mom called with questions everyone has these questions also. Bring your raffle tickets that you have not handed in yet to the show Friday or Saturday by 3:00 pm.
Secretary's Report Quilt Guild Meeting Minutes, June 9, 2009 The meeting was called to order by Deb. There were 90 members and 23 guests present. The President’s Challenge Quilts were shown and voted on- there were around 12 participants. First and Second prizes were given to the well deserving individuals. We need to save our scraps, bag them up and they can be donated to Brother’s Keepers- Linda Schlenker will transport these scraps to where they need to go. Keep up the great work on the donation quilts and bags. The count for Country Store items is at 63, remember when making those gifts for friends, make 2 and donate one to the Country Store. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities for the quilt show. Harriet Hargrave was our guest speaker, she spoke of the evolution of machine quilting and stepping out to take a stand for machine quilting. Not only did she have a lot of humor, she taught us to pick a backing that will blend in with the front so quilting mistakes don’t pop out at you. Door prizes were awarded, birthdays were honored, and show and tell was a treat for all, followed by refreshments. See you all at the quilt show! Respectfully submitted, Ramona Tapper
Just a reminder----THERE WILL BE A GUILD MEETING ON JULY 21st. It's our quilt show wrap-up meeting and will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 7:00 pm as usual. Pat Lucas from Heartland Quilt Shop in Algona, Iowa will be our speaker at our August 11th meeting.

SCISSOR SHARPENING SERVICE
SEPTEMBER 9, 2009 WORKSHOP
AAQG has been offered the opportunity to provide scissor sharpening service to our guild members. Scissors would be dropped off just before the Guild meeting and available for pick-up immediately after the meeting. This is the same service and provider that was offered through Hancock Fabrics. This would be a courtesy service for the guild members, rather than a fund raiser. Please let us know what you think. Would you like this service to be offered? How frequently would it be useful?
