Pastor Wes to Bill A few things about video this week, Bill....first, I'd like to show a video as a part of the sermon...go on youtube and look for a video entitled "Dick Hoyt, a Real Hero". It is 4:17 long and I would like to use it as the bridge between my sermon and our time of communion.
Pastor Wes to Bill You're coming along well with the slides for this week - I like the selection of slides you have chosen for after the sermon...my point leading into the video will be that "everyone is in the game/living to win" not only the Super Bowl players. Some of the pictures convey that idea more strongly than others. Please choose accordingly.
Look at the video and advise..... Do you think we could use this as an offertory for the day - show it while we collect the offering after the sermon....or do you think it needs people's complete attention Also - two other things...please know that we will be doing sung communion again this month - the words for people to sing in response are at #2257 in The Faith We Sing. And, please create an announcement slide that asks people to silence their cell phones as they come into worship. Thanks Bill. Let me know what you think about that video - best as part of the sermon, or best as a reflection during the offertory? Feedback by tomorrow would be helpful if you can do it. Pastor Wes
On the announcement slides - I find the "easy" button on the opening slide a little confusing, the cell phone slide, as much as I like the content, needs to be supplemented by a simpler image. Maybe take your ten points and display them one to a slide (so people can read them), then show them over the next few weeks before the services. Other announcements for this week - Do a slide for "Bags of Love" please, just a list of items that are needed along with a few hearts and the name of the place the bags are going: Storefront Shelter Do a second slide for zone leaders for Living Faith Sunday School - please list the teaching skills needed in the coming months: Storyteller, Game Leader, and Science Teacher. Finally, notice that we have members joining the church at both services - please display the following three questions of faith, and then the membership questions and congregational response from page 38 of the hymnal (#14-16). Do you believe in God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? I do. Do you believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son and our Lord, and do you put your whole trust in his grace? I do Do you remember the waters of your baptism and give thanks for the Spirit's life within you? I do. Thanks Bill. I'll look at the slides again Saturday.
2 Pastor Wes to Bill Just to keep you up to date on the plan, Bill - I will be using that video as the closing illustration for my sermon. So, please plan to do a slide show during the offering that will show images of "running to win the race". The sermon will contrast the Super Bowl's definition of "winning and losing" with a Christian understanding of "victory in Jesus". I'll send more as the sermon unfolds.

To God be the glory, great things he hath done! So loved he the world that he gave us his Son, who yielded his life an atonement for sin, and opened the life-gate that all may go in.
O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood, to every believer the promise of God; the vilest offender who truly believes, that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice! Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice! O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son, and give him the glory, great things he hath done!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice! Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice! O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son, and give him the glory, great things he hath done!
Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done, and great our rejoicing thru Jesus the Son; but purer, and higher, and greater will be our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice! Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice! O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son, and give him the glory, great things he hath done!
To God Be the Glory
O bended knee with needy hearts we come and pray. Lord, listen to your children. With willing hearts and open arms we come and pray. Lord, listen to your children. With simple words of heartfelt thanks we come. Believing in your promises we come. O bended knee with needy hearts we come and pray. Lord, listen to your children, listen to your children. FWS 2207

My Jesus, my Savior, Lord, there is none like you. All of my days, I want to praise the wonders of your mighty love. My comfort, my shelter, tower of refuge and strength Let every breath, all that I am, never cease to worship You.
FWS 2074
Shout to the Lord, all the earth, let us sing. Power and majesty praise to the King. Mountains bow down and the sea will roar at the sound of your name. I sing for joy at the work of your hands, Forever I’ll love you, forever I’ll stand. Nothing compares to the promise I have in you. FWS 2074

And also with you. Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Holy, holy, holy Lord; God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest! Blest is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest!

In Christ Alone Words and Music by Keith Getty & Stuart Townend
In Christ alone my hope is found; He is my light, my strength, my song; This cornerstone, this solid ground, Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, When fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My comforter, my all in all— Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone, Who took on flesh, Fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness, Scorned by the ones He came to save. Till on that cross as Jesus died, The wrath of God was satisfied; For ev'ry sin on Him was laid— Here in the death of Christ I live.
No guilt in life, no fear in death— This is the pow'r of Christ in me; From life's first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No pow'r of hell, no scheme of man, Can ever pluck me from His hand; Till He returns or calls me home— Here in the pow'r of Christ I'll stand.
There in the ground His body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain; Then bursting forth in glorious day, Up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victory, Sin's curse has lost its grip on me; For I am His and He is mine— Bought with the precious blood of Christ.
