[email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Wednesdays 3:15 – 4:30 Course Description: British literature involves the survey of works from Beowulf to contemporary poetry and prose. You will read several excerpts of literature as well as three to four full length novels and plays. This class provides you with the opportunity to develop your reading, writing, and speaking skills while exploring the global impact of British literature across several genres. Textbook: Elements of Literature, Sixth Course, Literature of Britain Course Content: First Nine Weeks • Anglo-Saxon period, Middle Ages • Beowulf and Canterbury Tales Second Nine Weeks • English Renaissance, Restoration • Hamlet/ Macbeth Third Nine Weeks • Romantic Period, Victorian Age • Things Fall Apart Fourth Nine Weeks • 20th Century, Post-Modern • 1984 *Students will also have a Research Paper and a minimum of 4 essays. Grading: Tests and Projects 40% Daily Work, Quizzes 30% 6+1 Writing 20% (any grammar/writing) Benchmark 10% Any assignment not completed will be graded as “NHI”, not handed in, and the student will have until 5 days after the grading period to complete that assignment. After 5 days, “NHI” becomes a 0 (zero) that assignment cannot be completed. Because our goal is mastery of the subject, students can make more than one attempt on any standards based assignment. Additional attempts are up to the discretion of the teacher.
