South Side Community Center, cont. YouthLink Day Reporting Program. Community youth who are involved with the Juvenile Justice System, but considered low to moderate risk of re-offending can be referred by the court to attend this day reporting program at South Side Community Center to build assets and relationships in an effort to change their negative behaviors. Participants and their caregivers are assessed and set goals needed to enhance life skills, education, and recreation needs in order to live crime free. Empowerment assets (young people being given useful roles in the community) are supported for youth ages 13 through 17 years. The length of participation depends on how quickly the child succeeds in achieving goals to move through 3 phases of requirements, spending from 10 to 40 hours per week in the program. There is a minimum of 90 days participation for each child. Once the youth graduates, families still have access to the center on a drop in basis for support and care.

The sessions are derived from the Active Parenting Now Program. This program is for parents of children ages 5 through 12. This program will provide parents with skills that will help them develop cooperation, responsibility and self-esteem in their children. The program also teaches parents about the 40 Developmental Assets and how to build assets in their children. They’ll also learn positive, non-violent discipline techniques so they can avoid power struggles. The classes are held in a 6 week period. They meet once a week for 2 hours. The class provides parents with the materials they need. Each participant takes home a book that they keep to review any concepts and to do their assignments. There is one book that is used for the whole session. SAFTIP (Sexual Abuse Family Treatment and Intervention Program) - Assessments/evaluations and treatment for sexual abuse survivors.
