MCAD Continuing Studies/Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program
Program Information The Minneapolis College of Art and Design’s PostBaccalaureate Certificate Program is a focused, intensive, custom-designed course of study for students who have a considerable background in the area they wish to pursue. The objective of the program is to help students prepare a portfolio for graduate studies or further develop skills for career advancement. Application is open to individuals who have received a bachelor’s degree. The program can be completed in one to two years.
How the Program Works This is a self-directed program in which the candidates articulate a clear set of goals in the statement of purpose, then plan and pursue their course of study in consultation with the Director of Continuing Studies. The 27 studio credits are selected from courses offered through the BFA program at the College, which are taught Monday through Friday during the day. Students choose courses for which they meet the prerequisites, and work with the instructors to shape the course assignments to support the candidate’s goals. During a mid-program assessment candidates present their work to a faculty committee which helps the students measure progress against their stated goals. The Post-Baccalaureate Seminar is focused on professional practice and career advancement. The candidates participate in a group exhibition as they near completion of the program.
