It's free admission and the exhibit will run through the end of October.

The Platte Branch ladies enjoy the opportunity to meet new quilters, share their ideas and designs. They will be featured designers in the Adel Quilting and Dry Goods booth at the upcoming AQS show held in Des Moines October 8th – 11th. Their newest booklet debuted in their lecture at our quilt show in July: Shuffling the Deck - 3 x 3 Creations™. The 3 x 3 Creations™ concept is ideal for the quilter who wants to make a quilt with a unique look. You can combine your own layout or use one from the booklet with any of the interchangeable border options to create a quilt with your own look. All the calculations done so you can go straight to the fun part! These quilts use 2 1/4" & 2 1/2" strips making them very jelly roll friendly. Since the number of strips in a jelly roll varies, the yardage chart gives the number of strips required to help determine how many jellies will be needed. Jan and Belinda will be teaching a second class for Shuffling the Deck - 3 x 3 Creations™ October 25th and November 8th from 1-4 pm at the Franklin Library in Des Moines. The cost of the class is $25. Openings are still available, so if you are interested, you can contact them at www.plattebranch.yahoo.com or by calling Jan at 210-5841 and Belinda at 865-5345.

Introducing JT Quilts Guild member Jean Taft is introducing her new quilt pattern line, JT Quilts, in time for the AQS show in Des Moines, October 8-11th. She will be a featured pattern designer at the Harvest Table booth.

When Jean's son was in high school he saw a picture of a quilt similar to the Black & White Optical quilt she had in this years quilt show. She promised her son the quilt for college graduation. She found the challenge of the Black & White Optical quilt was to get the right perspective of falling into the center, not a slope. Donnis Blake, owner of The Harvest Table in Norwalk, saw the Black & White Optical quilt at our show this July and asked Jean for the pattern.

Jean is known for her applique. She's holding her Little Baltimore Bouquet Quilt. Jean learned to sew as a pre-schooler! She quilted her first quilt 40 years ago, while in high school, with blocks she found that were made by her grandmother. At one time she did a lot of needlepoint. Her specialty was reproducing images of personal homes on canvas.

The Curl & Swirls (above) was 1st done as a guild challenge with the lavender fabric and theme of opposites. Her original applique pattern has a yin-yang motion that people find interesting and appealing.

As a 13 year member of the Humboldt City Honey Bee Quilters Jean has given many lessons and demonstrations within the group and at their quilt shows. Jean says “I think I can produce patterns that Twenty-five years ago, with a babe in arms, have good instructions and illustrations. I try to think needlepoint wasn't practical.
