1.

Purpose

1.1

The Laundry and Linen Emergency Management Plan (EMP) is intended to provide a process for the immediate notification of personnel, the maintenance of essential operations in support of the Hospital and, if needed, the re-assignment of personnel to alternate duties.

2.

Responsibility

2.1

Laundry Manager is responsible to update and revise (EMP). EMP will be submitted to Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for approval.

2.2

Staff will be in-service annually on the (EMP) by Laundry Supervisors.

2.3

In the event of an internal or external incident that affects the Hospital, a Hospital Command Center may be established to coordinate the Medical Center’s response to external and internal disasters. 3.

Department Staff Deployment and Recall

3.1

In the event the Laundry and Linen Department receive notification of an internal or external incident which may effect or actually effects the Hospital’s routine operations. Laundry Department Hours: NYWCC: 7:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Monday through Friday; 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M Saturday and 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday. NYPH: 7:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. 3.2

The status of the Department under normal operational conditions is as follows: A one-day supply of linen is stocked for hospital delivery. A one-day supply of new linen is kept in inventory at all times. NYPH – Service Building 3rd Floor, NYWCC –Annex building 4th floor Operating Room uses Disposable Operating Room Linens. Soiled linen pick up and clean delivery is accomplished seven days per week.

A.

If a disaster should occur during hours when the department is not open, the following becomes effective: NYWCC – On receipt of notification from the Hospital, Director of Support Services, Laundry Manager, Laundry Supervisor will immediately telephone all key personnel listed in Appendix A of this policy and instruct them to report to the Laundry via quickest available transportation. NYPH – On receipt of notification from the Hospital, Director of Support Services, Laundry Manager, Laundry Supervisor will immediately telephone all key personnel listed in Appendix A of this policy and instruct them to report to the Laundry via quickest available transportation. .

B.

Supervisory and key personnel will, in turn, telephone there staff to report to duty as soon as possible.

2.

The first person (s) arriving at the Laundry will assess the situation as quickly as possible and report to the Director.

3.

Transportation will be arranged for the employees unable to use public/private transportation.

4.

The Laundry will be placed into operation as employees arrive; whose workstation and schedule will be modified according to emergency operation.

In the event of a “Black-out”. The status of the Laundry(s) operation does not effect normal operational conditions, because the equipment is on the emergency power generation system.

C.

In the event that the Laundry Department incurs a major breakdown which seriously impedes or totally disables its capability to perform its functions, the following plan will be immediately implemented: 1.

The Laundry Director or designee will call NYH Laundry Service (NYWCC) or Presbyterian Laundry Service (NYPH), the backup vendors (Network) requesting their services within twenty-four hours.

The backup vendor will accommodate, NYWCC approximately 22,000 pounds, NYPH approximately 30,000 pounds of linen per day for seven days. Page 2 of 6

The procedure for collection, pickup, delivery, and distribution of linen and uniforms is as follows: a. All soiled linen will be collected from the sub-basement chute rooms and brought to the fourth floor (NYWCC), fourth floor (NYPH) Classifying Area. b. Soiled linen will be classified and loaded into polytrucks. c. The polytrucks will be brought to the Receiving platform for vendor pickup. d. Deliveries of clean linen will be taken to the second floor (NYWCC), third floor (NYPH), for sorting and delivery. e. On the first of the breakdown, sufficient quantities of new linen will be issued to provide adequate service for the first 24 hours of the emergency. f. On subsequent days, established linen quotas will be distributed.
