Questions 29 - 34 are based on the following passage.

Do you know what happens when a bee stings you? Usually, the sting is left in the wound with the poison bag attached to it. The poison in the bag will continue to empty itself into the victim over a period of about 20 minutes or so. Do not try to remove the sting by pUlling on the bag. You will only succeed in squeezing more poison into the wound. Instead, use a pen-knife to scrape off the sting with its attached poison-bag. Stings around the mouth and tongue can be dangerous because of the swelling which can interfere with breathing. These victims should be referred for professional advice. After the removal of the sting, the wound should be treated with a weak ammonia solution or lime (the type which Indians use to chew with betel nut is suitable). A local steroid ointment also helps to reduce the swelling and pain. Occasionally, the victim may be allergic to the poison and may develop a severe reaction. In such a situation, he becomes short of breath, experiences irregular heartbeats, sweats a lot and may collapse. If this happens, rush the patient to hospital. Be prepared to give mouth-mouth respiration and cardiac massage if required.

Questions 38 - 40 are based on the extract from the short story The Pencil.

Zahid accepted his "reward" like a man, all the while staring wide-eyed at his teacher. Then he returned to his desk. His face was sad as he contemplated what had happened. Tears began to roll down his cheeks; he cried silently. Mr. Jamal was proud of himself because he had solved the problem with such wisdom. It was exactly like a story from Tales of

a Thousand and One Nights. Classroom activities returned to normal. Whenever the pupils were doing their written assignments, Mr. Jamal would use that time to sit at his desk and read. He said he was preparing for an examination. While Mr. Jamal was absorbed in his own studies, Zahid would go over and glare fiercely at his enemy. "You're really great at lying!" "Hoorey for you' You got three strokes of the rattan: Hoorey for you!" "Hoorey' Hell! You stole my pencil and carved your initial on it. Then you claimed it was yours.
