THE GAME The Cleveland Browns (0-2) will travel for the first road game of the 2008 campaign this Sunday, Sept. 21 against the Baltimore Ravens (1-0) at 4:15 p.m. at M&T Bank Stadium. The meeting will be the 19th in series history as the Browns are 7-11-0 against the Ravens, including 3-6 on the road. Last season, the Browns swept the season series against the Ravens with a 27-13 win (Sept. 30, 2007 at Cleveland) and a 33-30 overtime victory (Nov. 18, 2007 at Baltimore). The Browns have won three of the last five contests. Cleveland fell to 0-2 on the season and will look to rebound following a 10-6 loss at home on Sunday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the contest, Pittsburgh opened the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown pass from QB Ben Roethlisberger to WR Hines Ward in the second quarter for an early 7-0 lead. The Browns threatened before the half, however, Browns QB Derek Anderson had his pass intended for WR Syndric Steptoe intercepted by S Troy Polamalu at the goal line as time expired. In the third quarter, Steelers K Jeff Reed added a 48 yard field goal for a 10-0 lead, however, Browns K Phil Dawson converted a 31 yard field goal in the third quarter and a 38 yard field goal in the fourth stanza to cut the deficit, 10-6. Browns QB Derek Anderson was 18-of-32 passing for 166 yards. TE Kellen Winslow led the club with 7 receptions for 55 yards (7.9 avg.) and RB Jamal Lewis added 19 carries for 38 yards in the contest. Defensively, the Browns newly acquired defensive linemen showcased their talents as DE Corey Williams led the club with 9 tackles and shared a sack, while DT Shaun Rogers tied for second on the club with 8 tackles, including his first sack as a member of the Browns. Cleveland held the Steelers to 281 net yards of offense and sacked Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger three times for 22 yards.

ABOUT THE Ravens

CLEVELAND BROWNS - ROMEO CRENNEL Romeo Crennel is entering his fourth season as Head Coach and was rewarded with a two-year contract extension (thru 2011) on Jan. 29, 2008. Crennel led the Browns to a 10-6 record in 2007, including a franchisebest seven consecutive home wins, and witnessed six Browns selected to the Pro Bowl. Crennel’s offense developed into a highly productive unit and ranked eighth in the NFL in offense (5,621 net yards) and scoring (402 points). The output of net yards and scoring also ranked third best in franchise history. Crennel was named head coach of the Cleveland Browns on Feb. 8, 2005, the 11th full-time head coach in franchise history. Crennel returned to Cleveland in 2005, after serving as the Browns defensive coordinator in 2000, and along with Phil Savage helped rebuild the football operations. Crennel previously led the Browns to a respectable 6-10 record in his first year as a head coach and added a 4-12 mark in 2006. His resume includes 38 years of coaching experience, including 27 years in the NFL. Prior to rejoining the Browns, Crennel served as the defensive coordinator for New England (2001-04), helping the Patriots to three Super Bowl victories. From 1997-99, Crennel coached the defensive line on the New York Jets. He spent 12 years on the New York Giants coaching staff starting as the special teams and defensive assistant coach in 1981. Crennel began his professional coaching career in 1970 at his alma mater, Western Kentucky. He also saw stints at Texas Tech, Mississippi and Georgia Tech before entering the professional ranks.

The Ravens enter this week’s game 1-0 after defeating Cincinnati 17-10 on Sept. 9. The Ravens’ Week 2 contest with the Houston Texas was reschdeuled due to Hurricane Ike. Against the Bengals, Baltimore scored on two long runs as WR Mark Clayton scored on a 42-yard reverse and rookie QB Joe Flacco scored on a 38-yard scamper. FB Le’Ron McClain led the Ravens with 86 yards on the ground on 19 attempts, while rookie RB Ray Rice added 64 yards on 22 carries. Flacco finished 15-29 for 129 yards. WR Derrick Mason led with four receptions for 44 yards.

Lewis against Former Team RB Jamal Lewis joined the Browns last season after playing seven seasons with the Ravens (2000-06). The Browns swept the season series with Balitmore in 2007 with Lewis leading the way by finding the endzone in each contest and totaling over 20 carries. LEWIS VS. BALTIMORE RAVENS - JOHN HARBAUGH John Harbaugh signed as the third head coach in Baltimore Ravens history on January 19, 2008. He served as the Eagles’ secondary coach in 2007, after leading the Eagles’ special teams for nine seasons (19982006). Under his leadership, Harbaugh’s special teams units were consistently ranked among the NFL’s best. Over the course of six seasons (2000-05), his teams were cumulatively ranked 1st in the NFL. Three of his assistants were selected to become special teams coordinators (Rory Segrest, Philadelphia; Dave Toub, Chicago; Ted Daisher, Oakland and Cleveland) for NFL teams. Prior to joining the Eagles in 1998, Harbaugh spent more than a decade coaching in the collegiate ranks with stops at Western Michigan (1984-86) under his father, Jack, who was the school’s head coach, University of Pittsburgh (1987), Morehead State (1988), and the University of Cincinnati (1989-96). In 1997, he spent a year on Cam Cameron’s Indiana University staff as its defensive backs/special teams coach before launching his NFL coaching career in Philadelphia.

The Cleveland Browns completed their season sweep of the Baltimore Ravens when K Phil Dawson’s 33-yard field goal split the uprights on the first possession of overtime, capping a dramatic 33-30 victory. Dawson made the game-winner possible by connecting on a 51-yard field goal that bounced off the upright before crossing the crossbar and tying the game at 30 as time expired in regulation. Cleveland headed to halftime with a 13-7 lead after a 13 play, 42-yard drive late in the second quarter resulted in a 39-yard field goal from Dawson. The Ravens took their first lead of the game, 14-13, by scoring to open the second half. In the third quarter, Browns DB Brodney Pool stepped in front of a Boller pass in the end zone and took it 100 yards for a touchdown and a 27-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Ravens were able to fight back thanks to four scoring drives in the final quarter, including three field goals by K Matt Stover, the last of which gave the Ravens a 30-27 advantage with 31 seconds left. Cribbs took the ensuing kickoff 39 yards, giving the Browns the field position they needed to get into field goal range to tie the game. Dawson connected on a 51-yard field goal as time expired, sending the game to overtime. In overtime, Anderson led the Browns on a nine play, 43-yard drive to set up Dawson’s game-winning 33-yard field goal, securing the 33-30 victory.

Browns-Ravens CONNECTIONS FROM THE EXECUTIVE OFFICES: Browns Sr. VP/General Manager Phil Savage was the Director of College Scouting from 1996-2003 with the Ravens, and the Director of Player Personnel from 2003-04. Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome spent 16 years with the Browns from 1979-1994 (12 as a player, 1979-90; 1991-92 as a Special Assignment Scout; 1993 as the assistant to the head coach and 1994 as the Director of Player Personnel).

Browns Make Roster Move

NEW FACES

The Browns placed DE Robaire Smith on Injured-Reserve and signed DE Santonio Thomas.

Once again the Browns were busy during free agency. Not only did Cleveland ink several new players, but they also made several key trades to help the continued improvement of the team. Below is a recap of the Browns free agency activity:

Smith, 6-4 and 310 lbs., suffered an Achilles injury Sunday night against the Steelers in the third quarter and did not return. In two games this season, Smith started both contests at right end and totaled six tackles. Last season he led the club among defensive linemen with 64 tackles and ranked tied for second with four sacks.

Name (Old team): How acquired DL Corey Williams (Green Bay): Trade (2008 2nd round pick) • Played in 56 games for Green Bay and totaled 156 tackles and 17 sacks. Has recorded seven sacks in each of the last two seasons. In 2007 with the Packers, Williams played in all 16 games, including nine starts, and totaled a career-high 51 tackles, seven sacks for 38 yards, one interception for nine yards, three forced fumbles and one pass defended.

Thomas, 6-4 and 305 lbs., has spent the previous three seasons with the New England Patriots mainly on the practice squad. Thomas entered the league in 2005 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Miami (Fla.) and spent the 2005 and 2006 season on the Patriots’ practice squad. Last season, Thomas appeared in four games with the Patriots and finished the year on the practice squad.

OL Rex Hadnot (Miami): UFA • Played in 63 games, including 55 starts, during his four-year career with the Miami Dolphins. During his career, Hadnot has started 34 games at right guard, 19 games at center and two games at left guard. Hadnot started 16 games at right guard last season with the Dolphins.

Browns Head Coach Romeo Crennel named LB Willie McGinest, LB Andra Davis, QB Derek Anderson, C Hank Fraley, K Phil Dawson and KR Joshua Cribbs as team captains for the 2008 season. The players were voted upon by their teammates. McGinest (15th season) and Davis (7th season) will serve as defensive captains, Anderson (4th season) and Fraley (9th season) will serve as offensive captains, while Dawson (10th season) and Cribbs (4th season) as special teams captains.

DB Terry Cousin (Jacksonville): UFA • Eleven-year veteran who has played in 156 career games, including 68 starts, with Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, Carolina, N.Y. Giants and Jacksonville. Cousin has 533 career tackles, 12 interceptions, 6.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 5 recovered fumbles during his career.

Each NFL club will have team captains wear a captain patch on their uniform. The idea came from NFL players during a meeting of Commissioner Roger Goodell’s new Player Advisory Council last season. The purpose of the program is to support and recognize the importance of team leadership through the role of the captains. Captains traditionally serve as a link between players, coaches and management to help foster cohesion within the teams.

LB Shantee Orr (Jacksonville): UFA • Split last season with Houston and Jacksonville and appeared in a total of nine games, including two starts. Has appeared in 51 career games, including 25 starts. Orr has totaled 89 career tackles and 10.5 sacks for 64.5 yards and has added 25 career tackles on special teams.

The Cleveland Browns have announced that Warren Lahr (1948-59), Paul Wiggin (1957-67), Walter Johnson (1965-76) and Eric Metcalf (1989-94) are the newest members of the Cleveland Browns Legends based on the combined voting of fans and 10-member panel. All four Legends will be inducted at a special ceremony at Cleveland Browns Stadium during the Browns home game vs. The New York Giants on October 13. The Browns created the Cleveland Browns Legends in 2001 to annually honor former players who have made a major impact on the organization. Players must have been on the Browns’ active roster for a minimum of five seasons. The Cleveland Browns Legends were determined by fan balloting on the Browns’ website – www.clevelandbrowns.com - (weighted 20%) along with voting by a 10-member Legends Panel (weighted 80%). Each of the Browns alumni in the Pro Football Hall of Fame were automatically inducted into the Cleveland Browns Legends. Warren Lahr – DB– 5’11 – 189 lbs – Years with Browns: 1948-59 A staple in the defensive backfield for the Browns for 12 seasons, Warren Lahr finished his storied career with 40 interceptions, landing him second on the alltime franchise list. In 1950, Lahr had his most prolific season as a cornerback, intercepting a career-best eight passes and ran back two picks for touchdowns. The Pennsylvania native followed his stellar 1950 season by returning two more interceptions for touchdowns in 1951 and started a streak of five seasons (19511955) where he recorded five interceptions. A graduate of Western Reserve, Lahr ended his career with 530 interception return yards and five defensive touchdowns and cemented his place in Browns history. Lahr passed away on Jan. 19, 1969. Paul Wiggin – DE – 6’3 – 242 lbs – Years with Browns: 1957-67 Wiggin aided with the progression of the defensive end position as one of the most dominant players of his era on the end of the defensive line. A sixth-round pick in the 1957 NFL draft out of Stanford University, Wiggin was a two-time first-team All-America selection and was inducted into the college football Hall of Fame in 2005. The durable Wiggin was the picture of endurance, playing in every game for 11 seasons in Cleveland. Despite playing his entire career at defensive end, Wiggin recorded three career interceptions and returned his lone interception in 1960, 20 yards for a touchdown. Born in Modesto, Calif., Wiggin returned to his alma mater and coached for three years after a three-year stint as a coach with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Walter Johnson – DT – 6’4 – 275 lbs – Years with Browns: 1965-76 Nicknamed “Zoom” for his notorious quickness off the ball, Johnson was taken by the Browns in the second round of 1965 NFL draft and went on to play every game of all of his 13 seasons in the league. Johnson teamed with DT Jerry Sherk to create one of the most dominant defensive tackle tandems of their time. During his career, Johnson fronted a Browns defense that notched twenty or more forced fumbles in every season he was on the team. Even as an interior defensive lineman, Johnson corralled two interceptions during his storied career and even broke off a 24-yard kickoff return playing special teams in 1972. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Johnson attended Los Angeles State University and ended his NFL career having played in 182 games. Johnson passed away on June 30, 1999. Eric Metcalf – RB/KR – 5’10 – 188 lbs – Years with Browns: 1989-94 An explosive player at the University of Texas, Metcalf was selected by the Browns with the 13th overall pick in the 1989 NFL draft and made an immediate impact. In his rookie season, Metcalf rushed for 633 yards and six touchdowns while also reeling in 54 receptions for 397 yards and four scores. As a kick returner, Metcalf was regarded as one of the most dangerous players with the ball as shown by his 1,052 return yards in his second season, including two touchdowns one of which came via a 101-yard kickoff return. As his versatility increased throughout his career, Metcalf earned back-to-back Pro Bowl selections in 1994 and 1995 before he was traded to the Atlanta Falcons. With 43 career touchdowns from scrimmage and 12 more from kickoffs, the Seattle, Wash., native remains one of the biggest playmakers in the history of the Browns organization. -6-

cRENNEL GETS EXTENSION Romeo Crennel - Head Coach

Romeo Crennel led the Browns to a 10-6 record in 2007, including a franchise best seven consecutive home wins, and witnessed six Browns selected to the Pro Bowl. Crennel was rewarded with a two-year contract extension (through 2011) on Jan. 29, 2008. Crennel’s 2007 team ranked 8th overall in offense and scoring, as the Browns scored 402 points and totaled 5,621 net yards of offense, as both rank third best in franchise history. Crennel was named head coach of the Cleveland Browns on Feb. 8, 2005, the 11th full-time head coach in franchise history. Crennel returned to Cleveland in 2005 after serving as the Browns defensive coordinator in 2000 and along with Phil Savage helped rebuild the football operations. Crennel previously led the Browns to a respectable 6-10 record in his first year as a head coach and added a 4-12 mark in 2006. His resume includes 38 years of coaching experience, including 27 years in the NFL.

The Cleveland Browns named Mel Tucker defensive coordinator. In 2008, Tucker received a two-year contract extension and is signed through the 2010 season. Tucker spent the last three seasons as the Browns defensive backs coach under head coach Romeo Crennel. Tucker, a Cleveland native, inherited a young secondary in 2007 as the Browns ranked 24th in the league, allowing 230.1 yards passing per game. Tucker was responsible for the development of two young safeties in the secondary and tutoring youth at the corner position as well. Tucker assisted in the development of two rookie draft choices who made an immediate impact in the Browns secondary. Secondround selection Eric Wright started 13 games at left corner and tied for second on the team with 11 passes defended, while fifth-round pick Brandon McDonald became a force in the second half of the season as the nickel defensive back and tied Wright for second on the club with 11 passes defended. Tucker previously served as defensive backs coach and co-defensive coordinator for Ohio State University for four seasons (2001-04) and the defensive backs coach at Louisiana State University for the 2000 season. Tucker began coaching as a graduate assistant at Michigan State in 1997 and 1998 before taking the defensive backs coach position at Miami (Ohio) University in 1999.

Savage Inks EXTENSION Phil Savage - Senior Vice President/GM Phil Savage was rewarded with a three-year contract extension (thru 2012) on May 2, 2008, following an exciting 2007 season that witnessed the Browns improve to 10-6, including a franchise best seven consecutive home wins, and six Browns selected to the Pro Bowl. The 2007 team ranked eighth overall in offense and scoring, as the Browns scored 402 points and totaled 5,621 net yards of offense, both marking third in franchise history. Savage was named Senior Vice President and General Manager on Jan. 6, 2005. Savage, an 18-year veteran of the NFL, is known throughout the NFL as one of the league’s top talent evaluators. Savage implements the organizational strategy for football operations and is responsible for all pro and college personnel acquisitions. Savage works directly with Head Coach Romeo Crennel in determining goals and needs for the team and arranging financial guidelines and parameters for contract negotiations and budgets.

Browns promote undlin Cory Undlin - Defensive Backs Coach The Cleveland Browns named Cory Undlin as defensive backs coach. Undlin received a one-year contract extension and is signed through the 2009 season. Undlin spent the last three seasons as the Browns secondary coach/assistant special teams coach under head coach Romeo Crennel. Undlin came to Cleveland from the New England Patriots, where he spent the 2004 season as the defensive assistant helping with the defensive backs. Undlin was part of a Patriots team that won back-to-back Super Bowl championships and also won an NFL record 21 straight games. Before joining New England, Undlin spent two seasons assisting with the defensive backs as a graduate assistant at Fresno State University (2002-03). During those two seasons, Fresno State won back-to-back Silicon Valley Bowls by defeating Georgia Tech and UCLA, respectively. Prior to Fresno State, Undlin spent four years at Cal Lutheran University as a linebackers/defensive coordinator (1998-2002). Undlin played defensive back at Cal Lutheran from 1990–94, and received a Master’s degree from CLU in 2003.

The Browns have started 0-2 nine previous times in the franchise’s 62-year history. The Browns are 5-4 all-time in Week 3 following back-to-back losses to start the season. Cleveland has posted just two winnings seasons after starting 0-2, with a 9-5 mark in 1967 and an 11-5 slate in 1980.

With his six points against the Steelers, K Phil Dawson has totaled 799 career points and sits one point shy of 800 in his career. Dawson connected on field goals of 31 and 38 yards against Pittsburgh Dawson was at the center of attention when the Browns and Ravens last squared off. Dawson ended the game with a 33-yard field goal in overtime to give the Browns a 33-30 victory on Nov. 18 in Baltimore. The game-winner was made possible after Dawson connected on a 51-yard field goal that bounced off the upright and back cross bar as time expired in regulation. The unique play resulted in a change in the NFL Rule Book involving replays for field goals.

New D-Lineman have knack for sack The Browns defense recorded three sacks against the Steelers with newcomers DL Shaun Rogers and DL Corey Williams joining in the action. Rogers registered career sack No. 30.5 after taking down Ben Roethlisberger for a loss of six yards. Rogers led the team with two tackles for loss. Williams led the team with nine total tackles (6 solo, 3 asst.) and combined on a sack with DB Nick Sorensen to push his career total to 17.5.

#4 Ranks Fourth K Phil Dawson currently ranks as the NFL’s fourth most accurate kicker of all-time. Dawson capitalized on the offense’s success in 2007, going over the 100-point mark and setting a Browns single season record for points by a kicker in a season with 120 points. Dawson has surpassed the 100-point plateau four times in his career (2002, 2004, 2005 and 2007), becoming the first player in the history of the Browns to accomplish the feat (Hall of Fame RB Jim Brown went over the 100-point mark three times in his career, 1958, 1962, 1965).

Browns TE Kellen Winslow continued to impress and to stack up big numbers from the TE position in 2007. Winslow had at least four catches in 13 of the Browns 16 games in 2007.

KR/WR Joshua Cribbs, the Browns all-time leader in kickoff return yards, ranked first in the NFL with 1,809 kickoff return yards and first in kickoff return average (30.7) in 2007. Last season, Cribbs recorded five kickoffs of 50 yards or more. His 1,809 return yards ranked second best in NFL history in a single-season.

In the Browns Week Two win over the Bengals he had the first 100-yard receiving performance of his career, before matching a career-high with 11 receptions for a career-high 125 yards in the Browns Week Nine win over the Seahawks. Jones picked off Bengals QB Carson Palmer in Week Two, Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck in Week Nine, Ravens QB Kyle Boller in Week 11, Cardinals QB Kurt Warner in Week 13 and Jets QB Kellen Clemens in the end zone, thwarting a Jets scoring drive, in Week 14.

DB Brodney Pool had an interception in back-to-back games in 2007, intercepting Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger in Week 10, before swooping in front of a Ravens QB Kyle Boller pass in the end zone and returning it 100 yards for a touchdown in the Browns Week 11 win over the Ravens. Pool’s 100-yard interception for a touchdown set a franchise record, surpassing the 97-yard interception returns of Anthony Henry (12/16/01) and Najee Mustafaa (10/10/93), both of which were also returned for touchdowns.

He signed a six-year contract extension with the Browns through the 2012 season and is a converted college quarterback from Kent State, earned a roster spot as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2005. LB Andra Davis makes regular visits to Boys and Girls Clubs and donates tickets to all Browns home games for parents and their children to enjoy games as a family. He is the first person from his hometown of Live Oak, Fla., and Suwanee High School to play professional sports and is honored every year with a day celebrating his professional accomplishments. K Phil Dawson is the longest active tenured member of the Browns. He scored the first regular season rushing TD for the Browns at Cleveland Browns Stadium with a 4-yard TD run on a fake field goal attempt vs. Cincinnati on Oct. 10, 1999. TE Darnell Dinkins established the Maleness to Manhood Foundation to benefit innercity youth. He spoke to nearly 100 students at Cleveland’s Genesis High School, a program to provide intense academic recovery to specific youth in a small group instruction. WR Braylon Edwards donated $1 million to the Cleveland Municipal School District to create a college scholarship opportunity for 100 eighth-grade students, named Advance 100, as long as the students maintain a 2.5 GPA, participate in 15 hours of community service each year throughout high school. In 2006, he donated $500,000 to create a scholarship endowment at the University of Michigan for the football player who wears the No. 1 jersey, the largest donation pledged to the university by a professional athlete. OL Hank Fraley was one of only two players to take every offensive snap (Joe Thomas) in 2007. His brother, David, was stationed with the United States Army’s 3rd Infantry Division in Iraq and his father is a Vietnam veteran. RB Jerome Harrison is very active in the Cleveland community by supporting charitable events such as Shop with a Jock and the NFL’s Hometown Huddle. TE Steve Heiden is a partner in an athletic training facility, Athletic Development Corp., using science and technology for prep and collegiate athletes in Valley View, Ohio. He recorded his first career TD reception and blocked a punt in the same game at Carolina on Dec. 17, 2000. LB D’Qwell Jackson changed his number from 58 to 52 this past spring. His wife Amira, recently opened her dental practice in Westlake, Ohio. S Sean Jones recorded his second consecutive 100-plus tackle season (105 in 2007 and 107.5 in 2006). WR Joe Jurevicius is a Cleveland-area native who played prep football at Lake Catholic High School in Mentor, Ohio and has played in three Super Bowls during his career, earning a ring with Tampa Bay in Super Bowl XXXVII. He has a 65,000-acre hunting ranch, Dismal River Outfitters, in Mullen, Neb., which is stocked with buffalo, elk and deer. RB Jamal Lewis topped 9,000 career rushing yards, in 2007, becoming one of only 26 players in NFL history to accomplish that feat. He is the owner and CEO of a trucking company, All American Xpress, based in Atlanta, Ga. LB Willie McGinest is the CEO of a multi-faceted entertainment company called 55 Entertainment, and owns a sports memorabilia company, Signature Collectables, a visual content and distribution company, Pristine Vision and owns and operates restaurant franchises and investment properties, WilMac, Inc. OL Seth McKinney is partner in a heavy machinery company, G Bar S Site Service, in Centerville, Texas. His father, Mike, was the Health and Human Services Commissioner for the state of Texas under former Governor and now President George W. Bush, and then served as the Chief of Staff for Texas Governor Rick Perry.

S Brodney Pool scored his first career TD on a 100-yard interception return at Baltimore on Nov. 18, 2007, which set a franchise record. His mother, Rose, is the assistant track coach at the University of Texas. QB Brady Quinn graduated from Notre Dame with dual degrees in political science and finance. This past spring he participated in the NFL and NFL Players Association three-day business management and entrepreneurial program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. DL Shaun Rogers interacted with 2,000 Detroit-area underprivileged children at the NFL Experience Kids’ Day the week of Super Bowl XL. His father, Ernie, played at Rice (1975-78) and was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 1979 and played in the Canadian Football League and also for the Houston Gamblers in the USFL. OL Kevin Shaffer has started at tackle in 71 of the last 72 contests. He is very active in the Cleveland community by supporting charitable events such as Read with the Browns and Lift Up America. DL Robaire Smith has two older brothers who played professional sports – Fernando, who played nine seasons in the NFL, and Antonio, who played for the NBA’s Toronto Raptors after leading Michigan State to the 1999 Final Four. DL Shaun Smith established the ’91 Ways’ Foundation, which benefits at risk youth. This past year, he hosted his first annual celebrity bowling tournament at Corner Alley in Cleveland. DB Nick Sorensen participated in the NFL and NFL Player Association three-day business management and entrepreneurial program at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. OL Eric Steinbach has helped paved the way for four consecutive 1,000 yard rushers with Jamal Lewis (2007) and Rudi Johnson (2004-06). He led Providence Catholic High School (New Lenox, Ill.) to 50 straight wins and three state titles as a tight end and defensive end. OL Joe Thomas hosts an outdoor sportsman show on Sports Time Ohio, Outdoors Ohio with D’Arcy Egan and Joe Thomas. In 2007, he was named to the Pro Bowl and is only the fourth NFL rookie offensive lineman to be named to the Pro Bowl. OL Ryan Tucker is an avid rifle hunter of quail, deer and turkey, owns a 1,100 acre ranch in Texas. He earned a Super Bowl ring with St. Louis in 1999. FB Lawrence Vickers attended a youth football camp in Australia this past spring. DL Corey Williams has overcome personal tragedy as he lost his father at the age of 15 and his mother five years later. Just before the 2004 NFL Scouting Combine, he endured the death of his infant daughter, who lived only two weeks after her premature birth. He has since had another daughter and embraces fatherhood and everything the role brings in his life. LB Leon Williams is active in the Cleveland community by supporting the Shop with a Jock holiday program. LB Kamerion Wimbley set the Browns rookie record with 11 sacks in 2006. He had his jersey number 12 retired at Northwest High School, his alma mater, during a basketball halftime ceremony on Jan. 23, 2007, in his hometown of Wichita, Kan. TE Kellen Winslow hosted his first youth football camp in North Olmsted, Ohio this past summer. He is very active in the Cleveland community by supporting charitable events such as the Special Olympics Holiday Party, Taste of the NFL and the Browns Youth Football Camps stressing the importance of nutrition and physical activity. RB Jason Wright is a keyboardist, singer and worship leader at The International House of Prayer in Cleveland. He and his wife, Tiffany, are passionate about education and are strong supporters of urban education initiatives such as Cleveland’s Entrepreneurial Preparatory School (E-Prep Middle School). Romeo Crennel Press Conference Transcript 9-15-08 (On Donte’ Stallworth)- “We will find out Wednesday what he can do. He’s got that strained quad and he has been working to rehab it. As soon as he is ready, he will be back out there. I’ll know more Wednesday about where he is, whether he’ll be ready for the next game or not.”

(Opening statement)- “After looking at it, it hasn’t changed. Like I told you last night, turnovers and penalties had a major impact on the game. As I also told you, I thought our guys played really hard. I thought they put a lot in to it during the week and they went out and gave a really good effort. If we will continue to play like that I think we can win some football games. Along with playing hard, we have to eliminate some of the mistakes we had last night that cause you to lose. I think you have to start with hard play, good effort, enthusiasm and some of those things. I thought the team had that last night. They put it all out there and they gave a good effort, we have just got to be better on some of those mistakes.”

(On injuries)- “I think the thing that probably impacts the offense the most is that all of these guys have missed time. The quarterback has missed time, the wide receiver has missed time, Donte’ has missed time and the thing about Donte’ is he has shown that he can be a part of this offense, that he can make some plays. We kind of liked what we saw and were enthused by it. We want him out there but now he missed time also, a lot of guys on the offense have missed time. The runners have missed time, I think that impacts us but nobody cares about that. What we have to do is work and try to be better than we have been.”

(On Dave Zastudil)- “Looking at it, I thought the punter did a really good job, considering the wind and the weather. I think his net was right around 52 and most of his punts were into the wind. I have got to give him a lot of credit because he saved a lot of field position by his ability to do that.”

(On signing a wide receiver)- “When you’ve got Braylon and Donte’ you feel like you’ve got two pretty good players. We felt like both of those guys were going to come back, they weren’t major injuries, we weren’t going to put them on IR or anything. We like what we’ve got, we have just got to get them on the field.”

(On the defense)- “The defense, they were running around chasing the ball and they ended up being able to sack Ben (Roethlisberger) three times. They played with a lot of energy and a lot of effort. Shaun Rogers is a big guy on the inside, I think he has some impact on the game because they do have to double-team him a lot and when they don’t double-team him, I think he has a chance to make the play. The defensive line overall, for most of the game, I thought they did a pretty decent job particularly at stopping the run. We talked about setting an edge and building a wall and I thought those were pretty good walls because Willie (Parker), even thought he got 100 yards, he had had to work pretty good for that hundred. I think there’s something to build on and we’re going to build on that and get better as we go along.”

(On what he tells his players)- “(The New York Giants) have nothing to do with us. The thing that has the impact is the next game and what we do in the next game. The fact that the Giants went 0-2, I could talk to them about that, but we are not the Giants, we are the Cleveland Browns. What we need to do is win a game, so that is what my focus to the guys will be.” (On the offense)- “If you look at the results, you could say that they have (figured it out), but I think if all the weapons were healthy and were out there that we would pose some problems to opposing defenses.”

(On the Ravens)- “We have a division game next week, it’s on the road and we have to get those guys to give the same kind of energy that they gave last night this upcoming game down in Baltimore. We’re going to focus on this and that’s what we’re going to try to get done.”

(On Derek Anderson)- “I think the time missed hurt him. The more time they get together and he has in the offense, the better he should be.”

(On overcoming an 0-2 start)- “I think you have to focus on the next game and try to get better, improve your team and win one game. I think that has to be the focus. If you start to try to figure out this and that, the thing you need to try to figure out is how to win one game. That’s what we need to focus on is how can we win one game. If we can figure out how to win one, than we can talk about the next one.”

(On Robaire Smith)- “Robaire hurt his ankle and as we’ve found out, it’s an Achilles, so he is not in the best of shape. This game was a tough, physical game, there are a lot of bumps and bruises. The guys came in a little bit later so we haven’t had a chance to evaluate anything but I know that Robaire is an Achilles. A big man and an Achilles is a tough thing to deal with. We will see how severe it is and make some decisions from there.”

(On the offense against Pittsburgh)- “We were inconsistent on the offense. There were times when we were able to drive the ball and feel like we had some momentum but we weren’t consistent enough in the passing game or running game. That’s a part of the team we have to improve on.”

(On their opponents)- “We ran into two pretty good teams but every team in the NFL is good. Everybody is pretty good, everybody has firepower and you have to play good if you’re going to beat them.” (On the fourth quarter field goal)- “As I said last night, when the ball was further out, I think it was third down, my decision at that time was ‘what are you going to do here?’ At that time, I said ‘okay, we’ve got time on the clock so let’s kick the field goal’. But we got the first down so let’s move a little bit closer. As I’m looking at it, thinking how the defense has played all game, that is we can get points on he board, we can stop them, then I think our offense will have enough time to drive the ball down the field and give us a chance to win. That’s why I decided to do what I did. If you look at the game, we stopped the run. They ran this bootleg and (Roethlisberger) ran around a little bit, threw and made a play. If we stop him on that play then our offense gets the ball with some time and then we’d see what happens. But we didn’t stop them, we got the ball too late, but we did get the ball back, we just didn’t have enough time to mount an effective drive.”

(On Braylon Edwards dropping passes)- “There’s probably more than one thing but I think the practice time. He missed three games and not only did he miss the games, he missed the practice time. I think that has some impact. I think Braylon is trying pretty hard when a ball comes his way because last game he dropped some. Sometimes when you try hard, you tighten up a little bit and you don’t relax. I think he’s got to get to the point where he can relax and look the ball in and let him come to him the way it used to.” (On taking the 10-second runoff)- “I didn’t want to use a timeout at that time because I wanted to have the timeout at the end because of the chance to get it in the end zone, the chance to get a field goal. I thought having the timeout would be better for us because we already had the ball down in decent field position.”

(On how he looked at the field goal)- “Fourth and seven makes it a little bit tougher to go for it but the points on the board, that gives you a chance to win. You stop them and give your offense the ball back, that gives you the chance to win. You can look at it a couple ways. You can look at it like we could score a touchdown and get it to overtime or you can look at it as it’s been almost four quarters and you’ve scored three points. So what are you going to do?”

(On the end of the first half)- “As it turned out we had eight seconds left. We had a first down with eight seconds so that’s time enough to throw the ball in the end zone, get a touchdown or if it’s incomplete, put your field goal team out there and kick a field goal. I wouldn’t change that sequence. Kellen (Winslow) was open on that play. Kellen was not in the end zone, (Troy) Polamalu was in the end zone and he was breaking up on Kellen. Everybody else was in the end zone or right at the goal line so Derek (Anderson) threw to the guy who was flashed in front of him that was at the end zone. He threw it low to give the guy a chance to catch it but Polamalu made a good play on it.” -19-

Dallas QB Tony Romo threw for 320 yards as the Cowboys downed the Browns 28-10 in the 2008 season opener at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Dallas jumped out to a 7-0 advantage after RB Marion Barber’s first of two 1 yard touchdown runs. Cleveland evened it at 7-7 after QB Derek Anderson found TE Kellen Winslow on a two-yard scoring strike in the second quarter. The Cowboys added two TDs in the second, a 35-yard pass from Romo to WR Terrell Owens and Barber’s second score, to take a 21-7 lead into halftime. Rookie RB Felix Jones scored on his first NFL carry, an 11-yard scamper in the third quarter. K Phil Dawson added a 34-yard field goal for Cleveland in the fourth quarter. QB Derek Anderson finished 11-24 for 114 yards and a touchdown. RB Jamal Lewis added 62 yards on the ground on 13 carries. Barber finished with 80 rushing yards, while Jones posted 62. Winslow paced the receivers with 47 yards on five receptions. Dallas TE Jason Witten led the Cowboys with six receptions for 96 yards. DB Eric Wright recorded his second career interception in the endzone to end a Dallas scoring threat.

With rain and winds of 60 mph, the Steelers downed the Browns in a 10-6 slugfest at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The Steelers got on the scoreboard first after QB Ben Roethlisberger found WR Hines Ward for an 11-yard strike in the second quarter. Cleveland drove to the Pittsburgh 11 with eight second remaining in the second quarter but an interception by DB Troy Palamalu ended the scoring threat and the half. The Steelers added to its lead in the third after K Jeff Reed connected on a 48-yard field goal. Browns K Phil Dawson answered with a 31-yard field goal to cut the lead to 10-3 in the third. Dawson added a 38-yard try with 3:21 remaining in the contest to close the gap. The Browns defense stopped the Steers on a 4th-and-4 try to regain possession with 26 seconds left, but were unable to complete a pass. Steelers RB Willie Parker totaled 105 yard on the ground, while WR Santonio Holmes added 94 yards receiving. Roethlisberger finished 12-19 for 186 yards and 1 TD, while Browns QB Derek Anderson went 18-32 for 166 yards and two interceptions. TE Kellen Winslow led the Browns with seven receptions for 55 yards. Defensively, DL Shaun Rogers and DL Shaun Smith each recorded a sack, while DB Nick Sorensen and DL Corey Williams combined for a sack.
