Introduction: “WELCOME TO THE 2007 ADVENT MOTORSPORT PARTNER INFORMATION PACK. I would like to take this initial opportunity to thank you for your time and being prepared to consider the contents of this brief outline. Having walked away from Donington Park less than one month ago as MINI Challenge Champions, we are already focusing on our goals for the coming season and relish the opportunity of competing at a higher level during 2007. The focus of our 2007 campaign will be the SEAT Cupra Championship within which we will run 2 cars. Over the past 3 seasons the SCC has proved to be the best supported and most competitive UK saloon series outside of British Touring Cars. I feel that both the team and infrastructure, and of course the drivers we have in place for the coming season are more than capable of running at the very front of the championship. It’s an exciting opportunity for us, and we hope that we can work with our partners to produce a package which offers them value for money and of course fantastic exposure.” Andrew Crighton – Team Manager

A brief history: Advent Motorsport was founded in 2000 to contest the newly established T-Cars Junior Touring Car Championship. More latterly they have diversified, running cars in the ever popular ‘MINI Challenge’ for BMW MINI Cooper and Cooper ‘S’ models, Radical, Formula Ford and Caterham championships. The origins of Advent lay in over 40 years of motorsport experience by Team Manager Andrew Crighton, having himself contested a number of race series Andrew founded Advent with the aim of creating a team with which to ‘progress’ driving talents. As T-Cars grew in strength and importance Advent followed and can now claim to be market leaders in their field, having fielded podium placed cars in no less than 4 series in 2006.

Progressing quickly from here Tim took to racing Go-Karts and from 8 was competing at a regional-level. Through his early teens Tim contested the national Karting championships, before a move to cars whilst aged only 16. The newly established T-Cars championship allowed Tim to drive a full blown racing car whilst still not legally allowed to drive on the road. In the inaugural T-Car series Tim impressed, picking up two 3rd positions and a 2nd on the way to 2nd overall. After juggling his studies and racing during his A-Levels, Tim took up a place at the University of Exeter to read Economics and Geography in 2002. Having graduated in 2005, Tim is now keen to take on the challenge of furthering his motorsport career and made a fantastic start by proving a consistent podium finisher in the 2006 MINI Challenge. Tim finished 7th in the 2006 standings which was a remarkable achievement having missed 2 rounds of the series following an accident in the opening race at Snetterton, Norfolk. Tim is confidently looking forward to the 2007 season: “It’s a great series with a strong profile which will be a huge bonus for our Partners. Like so many other aspiring racing drivers Freddy started his motorsport career in Karts were his talent became clear, proving a front runner in several local and regional championships. Freddy, a stalwart Ferrari F1 fan, had bigger targets in his sights and a move into the 2003 T-Car series with Advent Motorsport followed. Freddy proved his worth finishing top novice and 4th overall. Once again Freddy contested the T-Cars series in 2004 and again scored a solid 4th in the Championship, this time however netting a win and finishing on the podium a remarkable 14 times! 2005 saw a change in direction and Freddy joined the John Cooper Challenge (now the MINI Challenge) grid, again with Advent Motorsport. A strong debut season resulted in 4th overall with one victory at the daunting Thruxton circuit. Freddy continued with the MINI Challenge in 2006 and built on his 2005 performance by securing the 2006 MINI Challenge Cooper ‘S’ title in the final round at Donington Park. Again Freddy proved solidly consistent scoring 14 podium positions from 16 races and finishing in every race. Freddy is looking forward to the 2007 season and is ‘excited’ at the prospect of a place on the SEAT Cupra Championship grid. “It’s a natural progression for me, and takes me closer to my immediate goal of the British Touring Car Championship. I can’t wait!”

The SEAT Cupra Championship: Launched in 2003 to help nurture British Touring Car talent the SEAT Cupra Championship was originally intended to run for three years. It has proved a huge success with SEAT themselves, sponsors, drivers and spectators alike. By the end of 2006, at the end of SEAT’s original timeline for involvement, the championship was continuing to grow with Television figures and spectator attendance improving all the time, SEAT opted to renew its support and has committed to the series until at least 2008. The launch of the all new SEAT Leon in 2006 has provided the platform for a revamped championship in 2007, with car performance improved to close the gap to the British Touring Car Championship. For 2007 SEAT have boosted the prize fund to an enormous £1/4 million, with the winner netting a cool £100,000. For additional information on the Championship please see the SEAT Cupra Championship guide DVD.

Championship Demographics:

The TOCA race meetings are one of the UK’s top sporting events with over 280,000 people attending in 2006, 36% up on the 2004 figures. The final event alone brought in 33,000 people into Silverstone, its biggest crowd of the year after the Formula 1 GP.

The family friendly nature of the TOCA paddock is reflected perfectly in its race day crowd, with a third of the audience women and over 80% from the ABC1 category. The age split demographics again demonstrate the affluence of the audience. In the under 35’s age group almost ¾ occupy the ABC1 cateogory while among the over 35’s this jumps to 90%!

Television coverage: LIVE Television coverage, a medium usually only associated with Formula 1 and British Touring Cars graced the SEAT Cupra Championship in 2006. The live broadcasts were aired on the satellite MOTORSTV channel and provided excellent in-depth coverage into each round of the series. This coverage is expected to be renewed for the 2007 season. The 2006 SCC was also featured on ITV1 as part of the popular MotorSport UK show. The highlights package aired at 12.30 am on Tuesday nights with very impressive viewing figures, a package to be repeated in 2007:
