No eagles showed interest in a dead groundhog north of the house or a dead ewe west of it. The carrion was in the same spot and within 300 feet of the groundhogs that attracted a group of six young BAEA on 7/31. A large group of Turkey Vultures found the ewe within an hour of her death and spent three days eating, perching on fence post and sleeping nearby. The observer never saw a single BAEA although the gang of six on 7/31 chased off any Turkey Vultures or crows that tried to get close to a pair of dead groundhogs. February through March Hevener placed lambs that didn’t survive birthing in same area where the eagles fought over groundhogs in July. Many Turkey Vultures fed on the carrion during February, but rarely showed during March. She saw the first BAEA on the farm mid-June. In 2004 she observed a pair of adult BAEA and a fledgling in this spot Mid June through early August. The adults would sit on

A golden eagle standing on ground in a group of bald eagles of various ages. Some of the birds were in a dip and observer could not see all at one time to count them. They appeared to be eating carrion.

The eagles were interacting and eating something in a low place near red barn. At least one adult, a basic IV, Basic III and at least 2 HY were in the group. The golden eagle was not visible at noon, but perched in a snag beyond the feeding site at 1450.

Three HY Bald Eagles in low area of hayfield visible at one time. Then an adult flew out of the low spot and flew low to the west. Four Turkey Vultures sat on fence post observing while two more circled above and finally joined other TV on fence.

Two GOEA soared about one mile away most of the time. One flew directly over observers less than 100 yards away giving them unequivocal identification. Observers followed it as it went back toward Snowy Mt. to join the second BAEA. While the pair soared they flew in tandem and dove on each other. They soared just north of the north peak of Snowy Mt. much of the time.

Two immature BAEA sat on fence posts near a deer carcass. One flew NE to some nearby trees on the hill above. The second remained on a post. A crow chased the one that flew and they made contact in the air several times. The eagle spun upsidedown with talons extended up one time. The eagle on post flew up and joined in the scuffle. Two turkey vultures circling high drifted close to the commotion.

sub-adult flew east and perched in snag 50 yards from road. The immature GOEA flew west and disappeared into maple trees in fall colors. After 15-20 minutes the golden became visible perched in the trees. It faced the observer 300 yards away and fanned its tail while perched revealing the distinct light band near body and dark band on edge. It finally flew east into or behind maple trees near road. Its back was bright orangebrown and very molted.

The two adult BAEAs flew west toward Lantz Mt Observers drove north and saw the immature BAEAs fly low over some fields and another adult BAEA. This was 1-2 minutes after the two adults flew off. Observer thinks it a third adult, but not sure because one of the adults could have circled back.

No eagles showed interest in a dead groundhog north of the house or a dead ewe west of it. The carrion was in the same spot and within 300 feet of the groundhogs that attracted a group of six young BAEA on 7/31. A large group of Turkey Vultures found the ewe within an hour of her death and spent three days eating, perching on fence post and sleeping nearby. The observer never saw a single BAEA although the gang of six on 7/31 chased off any Turkey Vultures or crows that tried to get close to a pair of dead groundhogs. February through March Hevener placed lambs that didn’t survive birthing in same area where the eagles fought over groundhogs in July. Many Turkey Vultures fed on the carrion during February, but rarely showed during March. She saw the first BAEA on the farm mid-June. In 2004 she observed a pair of adult BAEA and a fledgling in this spot Mid June through early August. The adults would sit on

Seven eagles eating several groundhogs farmer shot. Observer questioned if one was a golden eagle. She had never seen one before but
said it was very large and brown all over with no markings.

Two GOEA soared about one mile away most of the time. One flew directly over observers less than 100 yards away giving them unequivocal identification. Observers followed it as it went back toward Snowy Mt. to join the second BAEA. While the pair soared they flew in tandem and dove on each other. They soared just north of the north peak of Snowy Mt. much of the time.

Two immature BAEA sat on fence posts near a deer carcass. One flew NE to some nearby trees on the hill above. The second remained on a post. A crow chased the one that flew and they made contact in the air several times. The eagle spun upsidedown with talons extended up one time. The eagle on post flew up and joined in the scuffle. Two turkey vultures circling high drifted close to the commotion.

sub-adult flew east and perched in snag 50 yards from road. The immature GOEA flew west and disappeared into maple trees in fall colors. After 15-20 minutes the golden became visible perched in the trees. It faced the observer 300 yards away and fanned its tail while perched revealing the distinct light band near body and dark band on edge. It finally flew east into or behind maple trees near road. Its back was bright orangebrown and very molted.

Two adults and two immature BAEA circled and periodically landed in a field. Then immature BAEA perched in tall tree on west side of road. It flew when observer tried to photograph it. The two adult BAEAs flew west toward Lantz Mt Observers drove north and saw the immature BAEAs fly low over some fields and another adult BAEA. This was 1-2 minutes after the two adults flew off. Observer thinks it a third adult, but not sure because one of the adults could have circled back.
