PFHL Course 161-- God-pleasing Commitment (by Bill Stevenson) Directions: First carefully read the following special letter I wrote and underline the words and phrases that you believe are the most important (the ones you would emphasize if you were asked to teach these Scripture passages). The best meaning of intercessory prayer is that it means humbly doing unselfish supplications or requests of God. Remember Moses in Exodus 31-34, David in Psalm 12, Asaph in Psalms 74 & 79-80, and Isaiah in Isaiah 63:7-64:12. Finally, write an essay as if you are teaching Christians who profess that they are intercessory prayer warriors. This assignment is worth 3 units, so write at least 4 quality pages. February 1989 Dear Intercessors, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit…. For they who after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they who are after the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the Law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God…. And we know that all things work together for good to them who love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover, whom He did predestinate, them He also called; and whom He called, them He also justified; and whom He justified, them He also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God before us, who can be against us?... Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?”

“Seek you the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near; let the wicked forsake his (or her) way, and the unrighteous man (or woman) his (or her) thoughts, and let him (or her) return unto the LORD, and He will have mercy upon him (or her); and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. ‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways’, says the LORD. ‘For as the heavens are higher than the Earth, so are My ways’ higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.’.... ‘So shall My Word be that goes forth out of My mouth; it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the tilling whereto I sent it. For you shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace.’… Thus says the LORD: ‘Keep judgment and do justice, for My salvation is near to come and My righteousness to be revealed. Blessed is the man (or woman) who doeth this.’” “This I [Apostle Paul] say then, ‘Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary the one to the other, so that you cannot do the things that you would.’.... Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like, of the which I tell you before as I have also told you in time past, that they who do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, against such there is no law. And they who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.” “Now unto Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”

“Then Peter began to say unto Him, ‘Lo we have left all and have followed Thee.’ And Jesus answered and said, ‘Verily I say unto you, there is no man who hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for My sake and the Gospel’s but he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, or sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions, and in the world to come eternal life.’” “Be you therefore followers of God as dear children, and walk in love, as Christ hath loved us and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savor…. See that you walk circumspectly not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be you not unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for it.” “Fulfill you my joy that you be like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory, but in lowliness of mind, let each esteem other better than themselves.” Learning from Him, Bill Stevenson
