1st World Air Rifle Benchrest Postal Competition.

MAAC Qualifications and selections. 1st February 2009

1

Sunday 1st February 2009. MAAC conducted its 1st ARBR match for 2009. This match served also as a qualifier for the 1st World Air Rifle Bench Rest Postal Championships that will be taking place between March and September 2009. Each country can participate with a maximum of 3 teams comprising of 3 shooters per team. Each country can also present a number of individual shooters. The world postal is open for Unlimited Air Rifle Class - is any .177 - .20 - .22 caliber air rifle having a safe manually and mechanically operated firing mechanism, with no weight limit. Any air regulator can be used as long as it is integral within the air cylinder. Any modification may be made to the rifle and any magnification scope may be used. Factory stock or stocks that meet ‘Stock Clarification’ rules may be used. Return to battery shall NOT be permitted. Muzzle brakes, muzzle flips, barrel weights or Harmonic Tuners are permitted. There is no restriction on cylinder size or capacity as long as 20.34 Joules or 15-ft/lb. maximum power is retained and it is integral within the rifle. (Separate Air Cylinders are not allowed the cylinder must be part of the rifle). Testing of air rifles via use of a chronograph will need to be done by match directors to ensure maximum power restrictions above – records of tested rifles will need to be kept for checks/ clarification. The match director has authority not to allow any rifle over the specified power limits to ensure fairness through the competition.

MAAC Selections. MAAC uses two different Air Rifle Classes in its local championship, the Sporter Class under 15ftlbs and the Unlimited Class above 15ftlbs. The ERABSF class rules and WRABSF class rules are being investigated and fine tuned. For this reason this 1st World Competition is being conducted for rifles under 15ftlbs. The main reason is that ERABSF and WRABSF can get together as much as countries as possible to shoot and get as much data as possible to define proper air rifle classes. MAAC selection for this world postal was based on the qualifier match. The match itself was conducted in very difficult weather conditions, with a constant variation in wind direction and winds ranging from an average of 29.6kph and gusts from 13kph to 49.6kph. The shooters selected all scored over 200 points and hence it was not just the merit of equipment but also the shooters skill to combat the wind effect. The selection criteria was as follows. A. Since the world postal is set for air rifles under 15ftlbs, the selection of the top nine shooters in the MAAC Sporter Class <15ftlb with over 200 points was automatic. Nine (9) Shooters were selected because Malta needs to present 3 teams of 3 shooters each. B. All the other shooters who scored over 200 points from Sporter Class <15ftlb and Unlimited Class >15ftlb qualified as individual shooters for Malta. A total of 5 shooters qualified. These shooters also rank as reserves for Team A, B and C. The ranking for reserves is also given priority from the Sporter class followed then from the Unlimited Class.
