: Minggu Pertama Di SK Seri Permaisuri, Kuala Lumpur.

30th July 2018 I found out that the school was closed due to “cuti peristiwa”. I left without checking in the school office. Later, I found out that I was supposed to go to the office because the headmaster and the staffs are in the office. I could have still reported on the first day. This made me realise that I should have been to the school a week earlier to check about the school’s whereabouts. 31st July 2018 I reported in the office. I provided necessary documents provided by IPG Kampus Ilmu Khas to the senior assistant, Puan Siti. The seven trainee teachers from IPG Kampus Ilmu Khas had a meeting with the senior assistants Puan Siti and Mr.Lutfi. we were briefed about the background information of the school, facilities of the school and the future activities that will be carried out in the school. The senior assistants advised us to take part actively in the school activities. 1st August 2018 I started collecting information about the school to be recorded in my portfolio. I had a meeting with the headmaster, Mr.Naz. Mr.Naz welcomed us to the school and told us some of his aspirations. He encouraged us to start a few projects for the pupils in SK Seri Permaisuri. In the evening, I attended the co-curricular activities. I helped the teachers in conducting activities for the Scouts team. Then, when it was time for the sports and games, it was raining heavily. The pupils could not use the field. Therefore, the practical teachers conducted a 50 minute aerobics activity in a closed hall. Our experience of conducting aerobics session in college helped us during our practicals. 2nd August 2018 I went to year 1 classes for relief. I tried a few ice-breaking activities to test my classroom management skills. Though it was difficult at the begining, I began managing the class after inculcating a few classroom routines. I learned that silent treatment works in gaining attention from the pupils. 3rd August 2018 I attended relief classes for Year 1 and 2. Then, I got my timetable and met my guru pembimbing. I collected the yearly plans, students’ information and marks and the topics to start teaching. I reported all these information to my supervisors. I completed my portfolio and sent it to the headmaster.

Isu Yang Difokuskan :

Throughout the first week, I received a number of relief classes. Every class I attended, I tried to break the ice in english. Unfortunately, I do not get responses from pupils. A few pupils do not even look at me. After a few tries, I conversed in Bahasa Melayu. Instantly, the class turned lively. Pupils started responding and were interested in the activities that I conducted. I realised that the pupils have limited vocabulary in english and could hardly understand my instructions. Analisis Yang Difokuskan : I approached a few pupils tried to talk to them slowly. I found that the majority of the pupils do not speak English at all at home. They don’t watch English cartoons, movies nor listen to English songs. As children, they did not get the opportunity to read English story books too. A few of the pupils admitted they did understand a little bit of my instructions but do not know how to reply in English. Then, I tried to conduct a small quiz. I asked the pupils to randomly name some objects in English. For example, chairs, desk, cupboard, cars, train, sky and clouds. Pupils did have trouble with naming the objects- they have limited vocabulary.

Kajian Lampau (Literature Review) Terhadap Isu (Pengalaman atau Kajian Lepas) :

Amal Ali Alkaff (2013), recommends that more emphasis be given to teaching vocabulary and speaking, allowing students sufficient time for practicing and recycling the new words. Helping the students build a solid base of vocabulary will hopefully not only give them more confidence in speaking, but it will also improve their writing skill. Cadangan dan Idea Penyelesaian Masalah : The experience gave me a rough idea on the levels of my pupils. Therefore, I realised that I have to take the following measures in my classroom: 1. 2. 3. 4.

Using minimal difficult vocabularies. Using pictures to teach vocabulary especially in reading texts. Explaining meaning through role play, video, and expressions. Include fun activities so that pupils do not fear on learningEnglish.

Tindakan Susulan :

Provide opportunity for students to explain a meaning of a word without the use of another language. Provide a speaking podium for pupils. Rujukan :
