Guidelines for Drainage Building Permit Approvals and Post-Approvals Inspections of Internal Drainage Layout

GENERAL To improve the internal drainage layout of the urban and commercial development, PWA is enhancing it building permit review procedure and introducing new inspection procedure for all the approved developments prior to the issuance Building Completion Certificates.

Drainage Building Permits Following are the brief guidelines to be followed by the design consultant to ensure efficient design of the internal drainage layout and associated drainage apparatus. 



  



The design consultant should liaise with Drainage Design Section and Drainage Building Permit Unit prior to the design of the development to get the information about public sewerage network and preferred connection point. The DDS/BPU will advise on the correct location of MH1 (last inspection chamber) in corresponding to existing/proposed/future public sewage network. The following drawings to be submitted for review and approval of drainage building permit application. 1. Services Site Plan-Foul Sewerage 2. Services Site Plan-Storm Water Drainage Network 3. Floor Plans 4. Basement Plans where applicable 5. Standard Drainage Details(MH 1,Inspection Chamber, Septic Tank, Soak away, Submersible Pump, Sand Trap, Oil Trap, 6. Electronic Copy of all the approved drawings prior to the final stamp on file 7. Design (Flow) Calculation sheets for foul & storm water network (where applicable) Twin stack system should be used within the buildings. The MH-1 and septic/holding tank (if applicable) should be built as per Qatar Sewage Design Manual. In case of swimming pool within the development, a separate drainage system should be installed with a limited flow (10 l/s) to be drained. Backwash flow is not permitted into the public sewage network. Flow from the basement should be pumped into internal drainage network. Direct connection from the basement into the public drainage network are not allowed.

A schematic Riser Diagram for internal Foul & Storm water network should be submitted for major projects. The parking and floor drains from the basement floor should be connected to oil and sand traps prior to connection the internal drainage network. Grease trap should be installed for the flow from kitchen. Design Flow Calculations for foul sewers and storm water to be submitted for the following type of projects :  Residential/Commercial Apartments (B+G+2 and above)  Tower Blocks within the Tower Zone  Commercial Complexes  Any developments with dedicated cooling tower



Separate storm water layout should be submitted for all the projects. Below table indicates the management of the storm water for different type of developments. For details on storm design, consultants should refer to the Developer’s Guide and Qatar Sewage and Design Mannual.
