The Herald To know Jesus Christ and to make Him known. Sunday 17th May 2009 Theme for this Sunday: War in the Old Testament Readings: Isaiah 45:1-7, Matt 2:1-18 Theme for 24th May: Logan Baty Readings: 2 Kings 4:8-37, Luke 8:40-56

Tim Writes A couple of Sundays ago we had a great service at Cobden. We had a number of visitors and the message provoked a lot of discussion. The topic however of a Christian's response to war was a sensitive one for some and aroused a number of strong emotions, that were then expressed in quite a strong way in the service. I want to say quite clearly that I have no problem with people feeling strongly about subjects, expressing differing opinions and even asking questions because our church is and should be a safe place where people can feel free to express themselves within the context of a loving and supportive community. However I also want to say that safety goes both ways and if in the strength of the opinions expressed others feel unsafe then that expression needs to be re-thought. Expressing oneself is fine but we need to be careful that we always do so in a way that doesn't hurt others unnecessarily.

SUPPORT THE 40 HOUR FAMINE The Shed is again joining with Grey High to raise funds for this years famine. Times may be harder for us, but imagine what they must be like for the poorest of the poor, with giving dropping. There will be those again this year who find getting sponsors hard, so if you would like to sponsor a young person then contact Nicki 768-9605. STUFF FAMINE TEAM WOULD LOVE We have a number of fund raising options. One is a recession fashion parade. So we would LOVE your old clothes We will also hold a garage sale on the famine weekend camp at the Shed, so any garage sale type items including baking can be dropped off at 186 Main South Rd. Lastly we are very keen to run a couple of raffles, so if you have a load of wood or could bake us a cake etc that would be wonderful as well. Contact Nicki on 768-9605. PRAYER DIARY The prayer meeting keeps a diary now. Please ring Dalma with prayer requests. Lawn Mowing Roster 24th May Henk Stengs
