SECTION 16260 WIRES AND CABLES

PART 1.00 – GENERAL: 1.01 WORK INCLUDED: A.

Wires and Cables

PART 2.00 – PRODUCTS: 2.01 MATERIALS: A.

All conductors shall be soft drawn copper of not less than 98 percent conductivity. All conductors shall be covered with 600-volt insulation, as manufactured by National Electric Products, General Electric, Anaconda, Rome, Crescent, or Walker.

B.

Insulation - In normally dry locations, branch circuit conductors shall have Type T, TW, or Type THHN insulation; in normally damp or wet locations, they shall have Type THW, THWN or MTH insulation. Main feeders shall be THW or THHN.

C. Size - Branch circuit conductor shall be minimum No. 12 AWG unless otherwise noted; homeruns to panelboard shall be minimum No. 10 AWG, when length exceeds 100 feet. D. All conductors shall have the following information surface printed throughout the entire length of the conductor. 1. Cable Manufacturer 2. Trade Name or Wire 3. Type of Insulation 4. Voltage Classification 5. Size of Wire E.

Apartment unit wiring shall be in Types BX, MC, MCSER or A/C cable. Apartment feeders shall be in type MCSER cable or conduit and wire.

2.02 INSTALLATION: A.

All wire shall be in strict accordance with the latest edition of National Electrical Code.

B.

All wire No. 6 and larger shall be stranded.

C. No joints or splices will be allowed in any run of wire, except at outlets, junction boxes, etc. Contractor must make all required splices at fixture outlets, etc., so only the proper ends will be made with wire connectors. All wire No. 8 and larger at panels and disconnect switches must be connected with lugs connectors. D. Panelboard gutter wiring shall be installed in a neat and symmetrical manner. Frayed wire ends shall be taped. Branch circuit splices shall be made with listed type "wire nuts".
